I have run a Speedi for 2 years now. Doesn’t mess with the motor and just adds a few extra mph. It’s a magnet on a gear that revolves slower than the rotor fooling the sensor into thinking you are going slower. It doesn’t make you go as fast as a chip it just helps a bit.
That's great if you happen to only ride on bike specific trails. In the UK, riding an e-bike only on private land with permission isn't subject to statutory speed restrictions. Riding on public cycle paths, pavements or shared paths and trails used by a broad variety of people is a different matter, and that's why the restrictions exist. As a walker, cyclist and motorist I frequently encounter idiots on bikes, derestricted e-bikes and e-scooters behaving irresponsibly and dangerously.
25kmh is just far too slow. Especially for commuting. 32kmh the US limit is mostly enough for mountainbiking but for commuting that is also too slow. Just a dumb idea to even restrict vehicles that have less than a horsepower of peak power.
In that case, buy a proper motorbike..people who whine about e-bike speed restrictions are really being disingenuous coz what they really want is a motorbike but without the usual regulations (licence, insurance, tax etc).
It's all depends on your aim, I do use ebike as a training machine and it's helping a lot, so If I'm strong enough to push over 25 kmh, why do I need assistance? Surely you are not going beyond 25 on trail steep climbing, and of course I need no support during descents 😂 But if u want overtake cars on the road go for Sur-ron or Talaria bikes 🤝
@@AlekseyKluban It doesn't work like that. Unrestricted is better for training. When you are restricted you end up using less power as you hit the limiter. Where as unrestricted you can just maintain whatever power level you don't have to worry about adjusting power to a changing power from the motor. It just takes too much power to keep the bike above the limiter. No one has 500+ ftp so don't pretend as if you casually always ride above the limiter. To match you pedaling at 200 watts the motor produces 500 watts, that's going to be less than 40kmh on bosch gen4, you will need to produce something over 1000 wants because you lose so much power to the suspension when the motor isn't preloading it. With a 250 ftp you can ride at 200 watts but you can produce 1000 watts for a few seconds. No one in the world can match what the motor produces. Especially with full suspension. It takes about 300 watts to go over the limiter at 26kmh on flat road. It makes no sense to have a limiter it just sucks. It's ridiculous to have a restriction for a motor that doesn't even produce a horsepower of peak power. It's just a matter of derestricting the bike. Grown men should be able to think for themselves. Following rules for the sake of it is just naivety.
Here in the UK, restricted e bikes are classed as normal cycles, which means we can use cycle paths, bridle paths and shared spaces/paths. If we increase the top speed of the bikes, we will lose (legal) access to that infrastructure. There is already a process in place to register an e bike as an e motorbike, just do that.
I 100% want to try this out I really think just 25mph would be the ticket since over that im never pedaling downhill but on high speed flatter flow trails you seem right at 18-23mph and its cutting out constantly
@@tahoeebikes Yeah I have derestricted and 25mph is almost enough. You want the assist to go 45kmh as sometimes you want more speed for road section. But rarely pedal at 40kmh on trail. For trail just below 40kmh would be sufficient whatever that is in mph.
Nobody agrees on what the speed limits should be. Whatever the limit is, a lot of people want more. You're looking at it look from a purely selfish view. It's all well and good, until you start mixing that speed with irresponsible, ignorant and untrained people on e-bikes with all types of pedestrians, cyclists and on busy roads. Riding fast on trails shared with slow moving walkers, people with kids or dogs might be fun for you, but it can ruin other people's enjoyment. They have as much right to be there as you.
@another3997 so restrict cars to the national speed limit then . Ban dangerous large suv vehicles then . Needless to say you would not be covered by any voluntarily purchased, third party insurance.
These have been around for years. Its a simple epicyclic gear aka a reduction gearset. We "whine" about it because it is a dumb restriction. A lot of the time I can pedal faster than that, and the e-bike slows me down.
