This scene shows Parry coming to terms with the past, and now knowing he doesn't have to run away anymore, and helps Jack do the same.

Jack is sleeping there like a knight kneeling before a king at the end of a quest. Awesome.

"What ails you friend?", the fool said. King: "I am thirsty, I need water to cool my throat". The fool handed him the cup of water and the King saw his wounds were healed. "What did you do, said the King in amazement, that my other servants could not?" The fool replied: "I don't know... I just saw that you were thirsty." Sometimes a small honest gesture is enough and It needs courage to literally "see" somebody. No egos allowed. Stay strong out there. ❤

Northern Witch well said. And you see throughout the movie that there moments where you think Parry is the fool while Jack is the king. The. You seem them switch roles. A beautiful example of reciprocal kindness.

Love this movie, and this is one of the best parts. The blunt subtlety of the turn of phrase ... from a dream, to the question, like a plead. "Is that okay? Can I miss her now?" From then on .. wow ... wow

One of the highlights of my life.. was meeting Richard LaGravenese at a screening of another film he wrote (as well as directed) called, Freedom Writers.
That film was cool; The Fisher King however is, I feel, his masterpiece!

It's strange how when people think of Robin Williams career this movie doesn't get mentioned much. But it had 5 nominations for the Academy Awards that year including Robin Williams for best actor and Mercedes Ruehl for best supporting actress (who won). It's also a film that has relevance today in that it involves the pain which comes from losing someone in a mass shooting. The US currently averages 1.5 mass shootings a day. The other relevant part is the idea that words have consequences because Jack (played by Jeff Bridges brilliantly) plays a shock DJ whose inadvertent words led to that mass shooting. He struggles to help Robin Williams character deal with the loss that he helped to create. It brings into discussion the idea of redemption which is a struggle to save yourself from an evil act or sin you have committed.

amazing movie, havent seen it in decades, but this scene is burned so brightly in my brain I had to come revisit its brilliance. Tears..the music,Robins delivery,Jeff crying on the bed. Gilliam crushed this as a director on every level. RIP Robin Williams and Michael Jeter.

Jack hearing the neighing of the warhorse when he infiltrates the castle hints The Red Knight is not just simply Parry's trauma and fear of reality, but a malicious spirit. And Jack, a disgraced knight who is reclaiming his honor and has taken the role of Parry's guardian, scares it away.

My very favorite film of all times. (Close 2nds are Absent Malice and original Blind Date),. But I remember this one specifically because...well, I thought it would win best picture hands down. Instead, The Prince of Tides won. And Barbara Streisand had had SO many successes, that I felt she just won because she was the favorite of the gay and musical community. The Fisher King rocks and completely deserved to win. But Robin never gave up until the very end. An then,he was ill, and had the right to make his own choice. Anyone who doesn't see it that way is an idiot! He gave it ALL to his audiences. Robin rocks! Rock on, Robin Williams! I miss you without permission.

Cynthia McCullough the prince did not win best picture and I think Streisand did win something but not against Robin of course. She probably did win because of being the darling of those communities I never saw prince because my family and everyone who read the book was completely disappointed with the movie.

I interpret the "little voices" telling him Jack is the one as him always knowing who Jack was and how he was involved, and that was how his disassociated mind interpreted that information.

Actually he had been offered both Joker and Riddler on separate occasions. Each time the producers asked for someone else. You should look it up.
