Great to watch every week, I used to do it for a living.. Had good and bad days, but always got a wage every week. I just looked back into getting another van, for part time collections. But they quoted me nearly £5k for the scrap insurance on a Transit Van. Ridiculous price now with the insurance
What ever you don't tell insurance company's you are a scrapper. You have to bend the truth a little. I do roofing and demo so waste is part of the business.
Insurance is a con I was honest and still not been paid from accident I had in September lack of evidence of where my earnings came from I'm not even sure how to record it differently so if you can get round it some how do it because they will do everything they can not to pay.
It not that easy in Sheffield area, the police know about the waste carriers license required. Then ask for the scrap insurance, I got caught about 10 years ago, taking a washer out of a skip, police arrested me for theft. As the washer was the skip company property, and my van wasent insured for scrap collection. 6 penalty points later and £200 fine. All for a washer. Not worth the hassle now not been legal
Scrap merchant insurance is a term they use. Its just van insurance witch covers goods in transit aka haulage. As long as you have a business insurance policy that covers haulage you are good to go. Mine was 1500 but I had no, no claims bonus. I tried 4 or 5 insurance company's that pretty much hung up as soon as I mentioned scrap metal!! Insurance companies don't want to touch us.

Plugs are evil!! I cant deal with plugs I get millions of them. That bag is a tiny fraction of all the plugs I've had. Then you have to take out the metal screws and take the black stuff off the pins. Chuck umm in the shred pile!! So much easier 😁✌🦊
@@Vandal-Vlogs hahaha! You know I keep mine for casting though but fair do's, although my yard would take all the pins and not worry about the little bit of plastic but I'm keeping the brassy goodness all to myself anyway! I'm going to send you a picture of what you're missing....🤣 (of the brass!!)
Could people make a decent living doing this mate? I always see 2/3 lads in a tipper and I always wonder how they manage to all make a wage. Just found your channel and I’m really enjoying the videos
On your own maybe but it will be a lot of work all day everyday. Don't know how 2 to 3 lads driving around can make any money I guess they don't eat much or do it for a bit of sniff at the weekend.
@@Vandal-Vlogs the latter part is guaranteed mate. Young ones have a horse that pulls a cart and they scrap collect also. They are only like 12/13 to young to drive so they use the horse.
You can but you need a scrap license and a waste carriers license its a 5000 pound fine and they crush your van or car and its a lot of hard work up at 6 in a morning and to 4 or 5 in the afternoon

How is the scrap weighed? As looks like it gets mixed up with what’s already there?
I weigh the light then then go and weigh the sheering. Everything goes in the same pile they separate it themselves.

Road tax is how much for you? Road tax in Minnesota which over here is written as wheelage tax is 10 dollars. U.s.d
