    One of the more serious consequences of overshooting the 1.5 C target is triggering tipping points (around 17 in total) that will lead to irreversible, permanent & catastrophic climate change. It must also be noted that these 17 critical ecosystems are threatened by other human-based stressors in addition to global warming, making remaining below the 1.5 C target even more important. It's expected that the upcoming El Nino event in 2023 - 2024 might temporarily push global warming past the 1.5 C target - scary spice! We live in interesting times indeed!

      What are the reports saying that will happen once these tipping points are triggered?

    • @Magik1369
      @Magik1369 Рік тому

      Multiple tipping points have already been breached. 2023 will be a year of extremely hot temperatures (wet bulb conditions) and food shortages as fresh water continues to disappear.

      @@wildcsgotactics Millions of refugees fleeing their land and streaming to middle and North Europe and Asia to find places where they can still live. Coastal cities drowning or having to invest billions in dams against the sea level rises.
      A "tipping point" is a virtual point of no return. We are long past all those tipping points. Or do you think we can bring THE WHOLE WORLD to stop burning fossil ressources in 2030? I do not.
      Prepare your grand kids for the most horrid scenario. May be mankind - civilisation - survives? At least in pockets. Its very similar to a zombie apocalypse. Only less zombies.

    What exactly does the 1.5 degree Target mean?, Does it mean the increase of global average temperature has to be limited to 1.5 degree

      Initially the tipping point ranged between 2 - 2.5 degrees(according to climate scientists), however industrial lobbyists and political reluctance toned it down to 1.5 degrees to make it more palatable.

    What are the steps that individual can take to contribute in this.

    • @challapali
      @challapali Рік тому

      1. Solar Power
      2. Buying local esp daily consumables like staples, vegetables and fruits
      3. Plant based diet
      4. Avoiding Single use plastics
      But for the shift to happen at scale it has be driven by Policies.

    • @groot843
      @groot843 Рік тому

      Although a policy shift is needed to have a sizeable impact, individual can still do their part by,
      Opting for more sustainable way of life
      Reducing the use of artificial products
      Go for a balanced food which must include dairy and meat products (not the heavily processed ones), because they have been part of the human civilization and assimilate us back into the natural food web
      Avoid plastics wherever one can
      Instruments of luxury puts a heavy toll on the climate
      Plant trees and try to conserve rain water in whatever little ways one can.

    What about the mention of retaining Tropical forests and diet change and managing emissions from waste? Why is Down To Earth cherry picking? What kind of journalism is this? There is clear mention on the time we can buy via methane emission reduction, why no mention?

    "There are huge non climate effects of carbon dioxide which are overwhelmingly favorable which are not taken into account. To me that's the main issue that the earth is actually growing greener. This has been actually measured from satellites the whole earth is growing greener as a result of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. So it's increasing agricultural yields, it's increasing the forests, it's increasing all kinds of growth in the biological world and that's more important and more certain than the effects on climate." ~Freeman Dyson, Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.

    Please be aware that the IPCC's (Scenario A) modelled predictions are junk. Back in 1990 they predicted a warming of 0.30-0.34°C per decade. Of course we've only had 0.13°C per decade, which is well below the IPCC's lower bound of 0.20°. IPCC’s business-as-usual scenario was founded on the assumption that CO2 emissions would increase by 10-20% by 2025. The truth, however, is that global CO2 emissions are not 20% above their 1990 level but 60% above it! But there is still no crisis just an unexciting set of observations. All the climate models run too hot, 100% of them.

    Adequate actions will not be enacted by all governments in time. What off the shelf solutions are available to deal with the floods, drought, sea level rise, heat waves, etc. ? Is there an adequate supply of solar panels , air conditioners, vertical farms, and safe land (housing) for everyone? There are not enough electric vehicles and charging stations worldwide. Full scale production of electric motors for boating is not available yet, especially for large ships. Hopefully there are businesses making plans to address these and other issues.
