  • Another garden update. A little humor about making corn syrup after my wife saw a farmers Almanac post about it. Still having a good harvest. I have to get a camera with better stabilization.

    Happy birthday for a couple of days ago. As always you have tons of food, the amount of frozen items that you do for later on when the gardens are all gone, I am amazed that you do not have food bulging out of every spare place you have. I am surprised about the potatoes not doing very well, here in the UK we have the opposite this year, it would seem that you got all our water and all the fruit has been stunted due to a lack of water. My apple trees has many fruit but it is all small and not sweet so this year has been a disaster, the blueberry bushes have not even started to fruit, we had all the flowers but none of the berries and they are my favourites. The “pick your own” strawberries have been watered from the taps this year and although the fruit is large, there is no taste to them at all.

      It's fun to enjoy the garden year round. We usually defrost the 2 freezers in the summer and toss any leftovers in the compost pile then start filling them up again for the next year. Usually just some peppers left. I think the constant rain soaked the potatoes so bad that the roots couldn't get enough oxygen to grow. My apples got hit by a late hard freeze when the flowers were in full bloom that destroyed the crop. My grapes are really big and probably not very tasty also. Thanks for watching.

    Happy Birthday, nothing like fresh veggies from your garden and that yummy roast with bacon to make an AWESOME Birthday dinner! Loved seeing your beautiful garden, the Rhubarb chard looking so beautiful as the rest of your garden, excepting the Okra, but hey, if its still green, it may still do something good. LOL....on the Corn syrup making, yeah, I mean if the cornstalks do have any sap, probably would have to press it out , similar to how they process sugarcane. And yeah mosquitoes are in no shortage over here as well, somethings I get the feeling that between many, they'll lift me up and carry me off to feed on me 'til I ain't got one single drop of blood in me! Hehehe.....thanks for sharing buddy, liked and wishing your Missus and you a great rest of the Sunday. :)

      Thanks. So far the garden is doing great even with the late start and rainy weather. Corn syrup is really made from the starch in the kernels. This was just for fun. Mosquitoes keep getting worse every day now along with the Japanese beetles. Thanks for watching.

    Very happy you are getting a good harvest. Way too much rain and wind where I am. Sun flowers were looking great until last week when the black bears found them. Just have to smile and carry on.

    I am not gardening this year. Too much stuff going on but I will be back to doing at least some of it next year. I love how well your garden is doing. We had some really big peppers one year. They were Cubanelas. Those were green and had to wait for them to turn red. They were big, sweet and delicious. Are your fruit trees doing well and producing? Mine did fine for production but are dropping many for some reason. Wondering if it is the weather.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  3 роки тому

      The peppers really loved our hot wet July. Only a dozen apples. We got a hard freeze this spring when the flowers were open that destroyed the crop. Thanks for watching.

    Incredible. EXACTLY my experience with the Japanese Beetles. I thought we would not have them this year, but they also are reappearing here too in full force. A month later than usual. HAHAHAHAHA corn syrup harvest!!

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  3 роки тому

      That hot wet July made a record crop of peppers and mosquitoes. I thought the beetles wouldn't be a problem this year also. They seem to love the sweet potato leaves that makes me mad. Guess I was to late for a good sap run 🤔. Hope your garden is doing well. Thanks for watching.
