Finally! Someone said it! While watching that part, I'm thinking, "Okay, MAYBE Feebas is a rip off, but when I look at Milotic vs Gyarados, I see Beauty vs Power."
@24Devin Meis Just because two Pokémon have the same typing doesn’t automatically make it a rip-off. Look at Foongus and Amoongus versus Voltorb and Electrode! The thing that I think makes Gigalith’s line not a rip-off of Metagross’s line is that Metagross’s line is a pseudo-legendary line while Gigalith’s is not, and that more importantly, they aren’t based off of remotely similar concepts. Metagross is all about metal... golem... thingies, while Gigalith’s is about a living geode.
Love your vids! However, I think including Gen 5 was sorta lazy and unjustified. You admitted this generation was a soft-reboot of the franchise. As such, I believe this generation included these "rip offs" as homages so the player didn't feel completely alienated by all the new mons. I think many people appreciated the familiar faces!
Unfortunately many people didnt appreciate it Hence the lowest sales in their history That said they do this in every game Gen 5 wasnt as much of a soft reboot as people think More than 90% of that dex is nothing like the rest I think Gen 5 was meant to be their magnum opus They were giving you a fresh start with sprinkled in familiar faces A more balanced region and went the extra mile with musical score and amount of things to do and story Going so far creating to this day still the only true sequels Theres so much more to consider for this theory as well that it becomes pretty undeniable (this doesn't mean they didnt make mistakes) And it bombed so they retreated and started from where they earned the most Their safe ideas
@@lillith7257 I don't know... I was able to make connections to about half the roster in Gen 5 compared to Gen 1. If you wanted to specific list I could give it to you.
I feel like milotic is not really a rip off of gyrados but instead more of a parallel. Magikarp is the weak fish that gets powerful, and febass is the ugly fish that turns beautiful. They have similar gimmicks, but I feel like they were created to be two sides of a coin, like rivals or foils, and not rip offs. Still a great vid though!
Heh. What a nerd. Don’t take that seriously. Because I’m a nerd too. I took the time to write down the type matchup chart. The nature table. And as I am typing this, I’m writing down all the abilities and what they do.
@YASH SINGH maybe they'le say something about that someday, how unovans must have named them prior to finding out that they are a regional variety or maybe they stuck to their description to make them unique.
5 is actually one of my favorite generations because of the vast number of new designs. It felt way more like playing Pokemon for the first time again then any of the other games because every single encounter was something I'd never seen before.
It's not the fighting styles of these pokemon which makes them rip offs all four are pure fighting type martial artists and boxing and kick boxing are martial arts.
Sawk and Throh could've been Female dominant as opposed to Male Dominant like Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan, and there could have been secondary types for them both (like Metal and/or Ground). Also, their colors could've been altered so they didn't have to look like a pair of Pokémon that belong together (Blue and Red always go together). GameFreak just isn't that creative.
Smalls Hardly opposites. Though the martial styles are different they do have similar moves. Boxing is half of kick boxing. Judo and karate share some throws and takedowns if Im not mistaken.
okay Unova obviously had its fair share but I think Hoenn got left under the radar with its ripoffs from Kanto * Grimer & Muk to Swalot and gulpin * Magikarp and Gyarados to Feebas and Milotik * Seel and Dewgong to the Spheal/walrein line * Meowth and Persian to Skitty and Delcatty * Ekans and Arbor to Serviper * Krabby and Kingler to Corphsh and Crawdaunt * shelder to clampearl * butterfree to beatuifly * behemoth to dustox * Paras line to shroomish and Breloom (not to much visually but similar) * Abra line to Raltz line (bit of a stretch but both are found early and are very strong later on) * Machop line to Haryama Line (bit of a stretch) * Drowse and hypno to Spoink and grumpig (bit of a stretch but both psychic pigs) might be a few more I know a few are stretch, but think there was quite a few
i actually just recently learned to appreciate the roggenrola line a lot more than even geodude because it's pure rock instead of rock/ground, meaning it has no 4x weaknesses
Feebas is definetely a ripoff of Magikarp. But I would actually say Milotic is a parallel to Gyarados, being beautiful instead of ferocious and ugly and peaceful and intelligent rather than violent and instinctful
I personally hope we DO keep getting Pikachu clones! I want to see how many they can make that are still cool! I also want there to be a trainer that has six pokemon that are ALL Pikachu clones (Like Togedemaru, Dedenne, Pachirisu, Mimikyu, Emolga, and maybe either Pichu or Plusle and Minun) bonus points if their pre/post battle dialogue talks about an older sibling they are trying to emulate and then you come across a trainer who uses a Pikachu (the big sibling should be an Ace Trainer or something similar, the younger should be like....a youngster/lass)
It fits all the criteria except being an electric type. Small, resembles Pikachu, cute...and if you count Marril as a pikaclone, then being electric doesn't matter. I count it with the pikaclones
@Rockin Have you used Togedemaru. Its pretty decent actually, the only downside is his huge Ground weakness, but it can make up for that by learning Magnet Rise by lvl up or to build a team around it. Its a pain Togedemaru can't learn any Steel moves by lvl up either and can only learn Gyro Ball via TM, but the use of Move Tutors has made it so it can use Iron Tail and Iron Head and we also have to consider the possibility that it can change movesets in later generation, as has been done by other Pokemon before (Like Snorlax being able to learn High Horsepower in gen 7, despite not being a horse, thus that it can learn the move makes no sense)
The ‘Cats’ lines: Meowth line, the Glameow line, and the Purrloin line. The ‘Extra Birds’: Spearow line, Rufflet line and Ducklett line. Oh, and the Jellyfish lines, but won’t go into those.
Pikachu clone is a recurring humor that the creators love to play... At the same time... The regional birds is another.. Every region the same normal flying HM slave and since Pidgeot line came first.. Aren't they all in a way rip offs?... However... TALONFLAME BREAKS THE STEREOTYPE!!.. (we all love talonflame for that)
“Just because the Pokémon fill the same role doesn’t mean they’re a rip off, they also need to have a similar design.” Proceeds to base his list entirely on the Pokémon’s roles and nothing to do with the designs.
Zebstrika and Rapidash? Similar height and base stat total. Even their pokedex entries are a bit similar (being high-speed horses that release electricity/fire from their manes). They can even learn the other type's STAB physical attack move (flame charge/wild charge).
I think Munna and Musharna are rip-offs of Drowzee and Hypno, since they both are based on the Baku , are psychic Types and have something to do with sleeping and dreaming.
not exactly, because theres 1 main difference between those pairs, which is, evolution method, like the Drowzee line evolves by Lv up, while the Munna line evolves with the Moon stone.
courage1 well I guess u can argue that but does chansey and Audino even have similar evolution lines? No chantey has 3 and Audino has 0 and a mega, yet everyone knows Audino is a rip-off of chansey. And not every pokemon on his list had same evolution methods either. I would have to agree that Munna is a rip-off (even tho it was hinted back all the way at gen 1)
Foxy Raccoon Your opinion isn't fact. Even if you don't think that they're even close to being improvements, there are some people that love these Pokemon.
Foxy Raccoon I like ALL of the newer versions as gen 1 was literally, oh look and object...lets add a face and put it in the game, caterpie is probably the least imaginative Pokemon and guess what IT'S GEN 1
The Pika-clones might all share a common ancestor and as time went on, actual evolution happened due to where they were and they became what they are but kept similarities to the original, like the cheek pouches and electric typing.
What if one day they make a new fish in a new region that actually in the middle evolution of luvdisc and alomomola. The Pokédex entry mention how luvdisc travel to certain area that unique to that region (that specific way also the only way to evolves your luvdisc), evolves into that Pokémon, then it moves to the Unova or something like that (similar to how salmon travel to and from the ocean). That one will explain why they look similar, but not in the same line
You too? When I watched Unova anime when it originally aired in my country (I didn't play any games yet), there was an episode with some sort of tournament, where there was some "Rich Boy" with Throh and Stephen's Sawk started sort of rivalry with them (because Throh was looking down upon them)
All of the Gen 5 Pokemon listed here (with the exception of Alomomola) are homages to Gen 1 because Gen 5 was a callback to Gen 1 as it was the Gen that introduced the most Pokemon since gen 1. That's why you're calling all of these Pokemon "ripoffs." It's because the concepts and designs being so similar to Gen 1 are ON PURPOSE. Gamefreak made a conscious choice to make these designs so similar. That's why the Pidove and Pidgey line are similar. That's why the Patrat and Rattata line are similar. These aren't coincidences or Gamefreak being lazy, they're making creative decisions by making callbacks to the previous games. This is because Gen 1 was the Gen that established everything as it was THE VERY FIRST GEN. Therefore the very first of its kind, and so it won't be perfect. With every generation came improvements to the game mechanics, and a set of Pokemon similar to Gen 1 because Gen 1 established a formula that Gamefreak could follow when making each new game. These Pokemon listed here are not ripoffs. These Pokemon are just all similar in concept and/or design because Gamefreak made a conscious choice to do that and it just seems that you're not capable of picking up patterns. I would also like to add that you should also consider doing research on the games if you're going to be making content based around them.

@@Error-gz3pp Agree!
Unfortunately many people didnt appreciate it
Hence the lowest sales in their history
That said they do this in every game
Gen 5 wasnt as much of a soft reboot as people think
More than 90% of that dex is nothing like the rest
I think Gen 5 was meant to be their magnum opus
They were giving you a fresh start with sprinkled in familiar faces
A more balanced region and went the extra mile with musical score and amount of things to do and story
Going so far creating to this day still the only true sequels
Theres so much more to consider for this theory as well that it becomes pretty undeniable (this doesn't mean they didnt make mistakes)
And it bombed so they retreated and started from where they earned the most

I feel like milotic is not really a rip off of gyrados but instead more of a parallel. Magikarp is the weak fish that gets powerful, and febass is the ugly fish that turns beautiful. They have similar gimmicks, but I feel like they were created to be two sides of a coin, like rivals or foils, and not rip offs. Still a great vid though!
Kevin 1327 (:

Ducklett and Swanna are more like ripoffs feebas and milotic. The ugly duckling becoming a beautiful swan. It was more creativelly done with feebas
Heh. What a nerd.
Don’t take that seriously. Because I’m a nerd too. I took the time to write down the type matchup chart. The nature table. And as I am typing this, I’m writing down all the abilities and what they do.
To be fair, most of these are simply parallels and throw-backs to Gen 1. He just means they're rip-offs in terms of their place in the game.
I'm quite late to the party, but I have always felt the Gothita line feels like a rip-off of the Ralts to Gardevoir line.

Nope, actually.
Unova had Regionalforms of older Pokemon before it was cool (Alola)
And Dwebble and Crustle are Unovaforms of Parad and Parasect
@YASH SINGH maybe they'le say something about that someday, how unovans must have named them prior to finding out that they are a regional variety or maybe they stuck to their description to make them unique.

Parallel evolution - Unrelated animals evolving in a similar way due to similar environmental demands.
Look at the flying squirrel and sugar glider.

5 is actually one of my favorite generations because of the vast number of new designs. It felt way more like playing Pokemon for the first time again then any of the other games because every single encounter was something I'd never seen before.
Sawk and throh are martial arts pokemon not boxing pokemon (karate, judo) (boxing, kick boxing)
I think you don't know that, boxing counts as a martial arts, same with kick boxing.
@@Ziglle Boxing and Karate are different forms of martial arts. One is a more vigorous and intense and the other is more graceful.
It's almost like Gen 5 was a reset meant to "rip off" or reinvent the archetypes. Milotic is a counterpart to Gyarados, not a rip off.
Rip-off is maybe too negative of a word, but regardless of the connotation, the fact is that some Pokémon are highly similar to previous ones.

Feebas is definetely a ripoff of Magikarp. But I would actually say Milotic is a parallel to Gyarados, being beautiful instead of ferocious and ugly and peaceful and intelligent rather than violent and instinctful
Yelloworb Well said
Yelloworb agreed
Yelloworb fantastic explanation
There was an episode of the anime that had a person who had a strong magikarp and a beautiful feebas. So basically they are just parallel overall
Not to mention that the fact that Milotic is much more defense oriented whereas Gyrados is much more offensive
I personally hope we DO keep getting Pikachu clones! I want to see how many they can make that are still cool! I also want there to be a trainer that has six pokemon that are ALL Pikachu clones (Like Togedemaru, Dedenne, Pachirisu, Mimikyu, Emolga, and maybe either Pichu or Plusle and Minun) bonus points if their pre/post battle dialogue talks about an older sibling they are trying to emulate and then you come across a trainer who uses a Pikachu (the big sibling should be an Ace Trainer or something similar, the younger should be like....a youngster/lass)
jenna bartley Mimikyu isn't a Pika Clone.
Mimikyu isn't a PikaClone, but it's a joke on tge concept. yes, I do want to see a Mimikyu on a PikaClone team
I'd like to see where they go with Pikachu clones, they've been getting better and better with Emolga, Dedennae, and Togedemaru.
It fits all the criteria except being an electric type. Small, resembles Pikachu, cute...and if you count Marril as a pikaclone, then being electric doesn't matter. I count it with the pikaclones
@Rockin
Have you used Togedemaru.
Regional Electrical rodents aren't ripoffs just like the regional birds aren't a Pidgeot ripoff

@Emonica Its a Pokemon Talk joke
Would it be weird if I said that when I was younger I used to think Sawk evolved into Throh
Ripoff means in essence a copy of another thing. It does not mean the person copying was being lazy
Chansey isn’t just a nurse... Audino is basically a literal doctor Pokémon because of its stethoscopes on its ears...
