Lively having a better series than Porzingis isn't a nice-have, it's probably a requirement, hard to see a championship without that. But for that to happen it's not enough for Lively to play well and even exceed expectations, what also needs to happen is for Kidd, the bigs, and Dončić, to expose Porzingis in some way, find weaknesses in his game and accentuate them in a big way.
Maxi is going to be huge in this series. And KP might not make it an entire series. This is going to be way more physical then the regular season..

Mavs have been good at hiding Luka especially when teams have tried to target him imo.
Listen, Mavs don't need to adjust to the Celtics. Mavs ability to rebound, lob and points in the paint is such that the Celtics are going to have to adjust to them.
Depends if Boston goes to the 4 guard lineup, they lose the paint, but gain volume in shots, and open shots off rotations. I think if Boston were smart they would start out with Tatum at the 5 and start Prichard. Then again Hardy would cook Prichard if Dallas adjusted, so its a moot point really.
We arent relying on Maxi he will be a piece thats useful unlike THJ. We are a different team than what Boston saw.
I never understand why the titles below Nick and Reggie’s name are so far indented. Haven’t seen them use this style in anything else. Nick help me out… it’s driving me nuts lol

The teams are pretty close to even. Yes, the Cetics shoots the 3 better but the Mavs defense has been great since the trade. Celtics fans are so arrogant and are literally are saying the Mavs have zero chance. The team that executes will win.
Holiday is a great defender. But so is Paul George. So is Dort. So is McDaniels. So is Edwards. Why would this be any different?
Holiday is too small for Luka he is almost 5 inches shorter, and gives up 25 pounds to Luka. It would be a dumb move to put him on Luka. I would stick him on Kyrie and put White on Luka. I would not ask anything of Brown defensively unless absolutely necessary because he will be taken out of the game like Ant if he is asked to guard Luka or Kyrie. Celtics 4 guard lineup would be a serious liability for Dallas, but with the emergence of Jaden Hardy, I think the Mavs win on a small ball lineup too. Prichard isnt staying in front of Hardy.

PJ would play the five if Boston went to a four guard lineup. IT be Doncic, Irving, Hardy, DJJ and PJ. People forget PJ is dang near the same size as Horford.

I would really hope that Maxi can give you 30 minutes a game and not for small ball reasons. It's the Finals, what you leaving minutes on the floor for? Leave everything you got out there and think about resting later.
I just feel like Gafford/Lively, Maxi, PJ/DJJ, Green, Luka/Kyrie lineup is the Mavs best defensive lineup that's got some kick to it on offense depending on who you've got out there & who's feeling it. And hopefully Dallas can force Boston to play the Mavs game with size. Please play Porzingis & Horford cause Luka & Kyrie can eat off of that.
It'll be interesting to see who makes who adjust first and HOW they adjust to it. Cause yeah, the Mavs might have to adjust and Maxi is now the backup center for 5 out defensive purposes. But maybe Dallas is just too big that Boston HAS to wave the white flag and start playing bigger to have SOME control of the glass.
Maybe they gotta go KP, Horford, JB, JT, and White/Holiday is kinda your offense/defense. God, I would love it. Luka & Ky can go hunting all game.
Boston gonna go small extremely fast in this series if they cant win the paint. You could see a lot of four guard lineups, because that would create space on the floor for Boston. That could really hurt Dallas if they dont adjust, because they lose the paint but gain the opportunities on mass volume shooting. Prichard has not been exposed because he has been asked to guard Wings who are a lot slower than him, but if he were forced to guard Jaden Hardy he would be cooked. At some point in this series we have to go to a 3 guard lineup. Without question Luka, Hardy and Kyrie are our biggest play makers. Brown, White and Tatum are theres. We have to be careful with who we play. If we play Gafford, Maxi, Luka, Kyrie and PJ it will be like shooting fish in a bucket for Boston. We have to live with the fact that Lively and Gafford may not play a huge part in this series. We are going to need guys like Hardy and Exum to step up.

Tell me about it man. Facing a Goliath with 7 days of downtime between has been rough. But, I felt the same nerves in 2011 and the same nerves before OKC and especially Minnesota.
If Mavs can dominate the paint like they have they win every time. Lively and Gafford are both required.

Luka's injury was much more of a factor than the OKC defense scheme, the defense, supposedly, gets better the more they know your tendencies - unless Luka is getting healthier:
First 4 OKC games: 22/11/8 with 39/31/68 splits
Last 2 OKC games: 30/10/11 with 57/53/90 splits
Luka's first 10 playoffs while adjusting and playing through the knee sprain: 27/10/9 with 40/26/78 splits
Luka after G5 against OKC and the last 7 games: 31/10/10 with 47/44/87 splits

Hes absolutely getting healthy, and it spells trouble for Boston considering they have played no one and somehow only to manage to allow 1 less ppg than Minnesota who has played nothing but studs this post season.

Regarding Lively, I'd like to expand on what Reggie said and also remind you: Lively may have one so-called unsuccessful game, BUT! One thing he has demonstrated throughout the season is an amazingly quick adaptability and learning ability, with repeated mistakes ceasing in a very short time frame. What I mean to say is that Lively's performances, no matter how they start, improve with each subsequent game in the series.💪💪✌✌
Dort's flopping bothered Luka far more than his strength, Luka's knee defended him better, plus he cooked Dort during the regular season.

The Boston crossover ep made me understand how many people still don’t really know who Luka is. He’s the best player in this series and it isn’t close. After rewatching the Boston/Dallas game from March 1 it’s clear to see how different Dallas’ rotations are. The defense was unrecognizable. Luka had 37/12/11 and the Mavs conceded the 4th quarter pretty early. This was game 8 since the trades, before the closed-door meeting after which Dallas became a “defense first” team. Boston had 7(!) players in double figures that night. In the playoffs, however, Luka can play Porzingis and Pritchard to the bench if he wants to target them. If Boston can shoot lights out from 3 for 4 whole games they can win. I don’t see any other path for them. Dallas will shut down the paint, giving them more than one way to win games in the series.

Also, Boston had a significantly better record this year when Porzingis didn’t play. So we should all hope he gets healthy for the finals 😂 Dallas fans know first hand how mediocre he plays at times.

Celtics seem to be putting too much stock into KP being the difference in this series. Mavs know more than anyone else that you can’t depend on that 7 foot stiff. If so it’s gonna be a short series.
Lively is gonna have a 24 & 20 game in these Finals!!! Book it. He's gonna vacuum in like 8 offensive rebounds and have 8 putback dunks. And he'll get to his 24 by being fed by Luka & Ky.
I feel like there's just no way Lively isn't a story of this series. That he's the MVP of Game X and you can't tell the story of these Finals without bringing up Lively.

Lively is going to live on the glass, neither Horford or Porzingis are a match for him in the paint. The dude was pushing Gobert and Kat at the same time out of the way for the rebound.

If I were the Celtics I would try to shut down the other guys and kinda OK if Luka gets his. 40 points? That's letting him eat too much. I think they're looking to hold Luka to like 28-32 points, 8 and 8. 35, 12 & 12 has to be their over/under mark for a W/L. Hold Luka under for 2 of those 3 and you got a good chance to win. If Luka gets 2 or 3 of those 3, you likely lost the game.
But I don't think it's gonna work out for them the way they think. I know what Boston WANTS to happen but sometimes you just don't get what you want. It's like it was almost inevitable...no matter how hard Boston tried to stop it, it was going to happen no matter what. And here's a few of what I think they could be.
I feel like Maxi is gonna have 1 of his typical 7 for 10 playoff games...he's gonna want to show up & impact this series for Wurzberg (will Wurzberg need to change it's name to Titletown?). He's had 1 of them already so I might be asking for too much. I just feel like Maxi is that dude to have another 1 in the chamber for the Finals.
I think Lively is gonna have 1 breakout game where he's like 24 & 20 and has this historical game for a rookie in the Finals. I feel really good about PJ Washington having 1 great game for his family in the stands. I don't know if this means he busts out with 32 one night or if it's more of like a 17 points but 3 blocks, 4 steals type of game. It's possible he even gets both of these types at home...but I'm planting my flag on at least ONE game where PJ shows out for his family.
I don't know if these are all separate games or if a couple of them happen in a single game. Like maybe PJ & Lively are co-stars that night. But I would also expect Luka to have a night where he shows the entire world without a doubt who the best player on the planet is. He'll have like a 45 point triple double where he's 80% from 3.
Hopefully that'll be enough to put a ring on Luka's finger and keep him in Dallas for life.
The problem is if you sell too hard on Luka and Kyrie they go to Jaden Hardy who has been cooking people off the bench to relieve pressure off Kyrie and Luka. You could see a 3 guard lineup that could smoke Boston.
Celtics fan here. Much respect t the Mavs for getting to the Finals also. I might be only Celtics fan that thinks Luka is best player in the series, but Celtics are used to that playing Bucks and Sixers in past playoffs. Should be a great series.

Stop talking about the Luka injury, the dude is 25 years old and has 8 days to rest for this series, and has two days between each game, and Boston is not 1/2 as physical as any team Dallas has played against. I like Jrue but the guy has serious miles on his legs, and a lot of tread has been worn off. That and Boston does not have a real big to enforce the paint, Porzingis is afraid of contact. Boston about to find out this isnt another 40 win team, this is a train coming through.
Nobody really cares who starts, finishes, or logs the most minutes. If everyone is used exactly when and how they are needed most AND perform, everyone will be happy with a chip.
I think another thing is Boston lacks size. Yes, they are quick and can shoot very well but I think the Mavs should win the rebounding battle fairly easily.

I'm not going to be shocked if Kidd tells Lively to drift to the 3 point line in game 1 when they run the double SF/PF screens for Luka. Kidd takes alot of flak, but of any current coach, he's the most likely to sit on something and then spring it on another team. I don't think it's likely, but it wouldn't be that shocking either.
I think the likely scenario is matching their four guard lineup with our own, and it would cook them in the process. The arent stopping Hardy, Luka and Kyrie on the court together.
I haven't doubted the MAVS all playoffs and you can go back and check any video as I'm sure I'm there either in live chat or comments, but if Kidd decides to pull Gafford and give his minutes to Maxi or run THJ, Exum.... we will lose! Luka will need Gafford's screens and lob threat presence even if he doesn't get lobs. If we just rely on everyone else but Luka making shots and playing small ball.... well, we've all seen it before, and it never ends well. I feel Gaff is the make or break to winning the Championship!

Heres how i see it, Mavs can and will improve as the series goes on. Happened all playoffs long.
1st and 2nd round, lost game 1s then game 2 came around, they adjusted big time and won game 2 and just made adjustment after adjustment from then on.
Then the wolves series, i said somewhaf jokingly back then that if mavs win game 1 then thats how you know theyre legit. Cause they never win game 1s, it takes them a while.
So if anything, whatever happens game 1 vs celtics then were gonna take it cause they can only go up from there.
Addressing the losses, mavs only lost by either they opps shoot really great all game or they shoot themselves on the foot like what happened game 4 against okc.
Out of the 5 losses they have, 4 of those, the opps had to shoot really great either from 3 or theyre just feeling it on offense. So if celtics come out the gate and shoots almost 50% all series then its really hard to beat that kinda team. Or we shoot ourselves in the foot and just give them wins.
Still confident that we can win in 7. This is a better team offensively and defensively than clippers and okc who pushed the mavs to 6 games

Dwight and Timmy don’t have much business being in the game but Maxi is a high level defender and has finally been hitting some 3s. He’s useful for limited stretches, his role could be crucial facing a small ball Celtics team with no good bigs. Gafford isn’t nearly the perimeter defender Maxi is.

I don't think Mavs will have any stamina problem. Luka can rest on court since Kyrie can cook on some 1 on 1 time as well. They also have 2 playable secondary playmakers on the bench for those 2. Mavs center Daniel Lively can play all 48 minutes every game and have no issue. And the 2 Wings have Maxi and Green who also can play double digit mins. While Celtics starting wings and guards will have to play close to 45 minutes per game
