I feel this, (now 40) Bought this when it came out and I think my disapointment was greater hearing this record than the disapointment of hearing The Green Album. Return of the Rentals is a masterpiece, and this record never stood a chance.
@kemandoran1 i'm not sure what your source for these facts are. A big reason Matt left Weezer was Rivers giving him, and the rest of the band, minimal artisitic input on Pinkerton. something to think about. i recommend reading "River's Edge" the Weezer biography. this song seems to take the sound of Oasis a little more
tanner pape bullshit. Matt had his own thing... bass hooks and groves, syncopated counterpoint, etc. when matt left he took the bass hooks and feels. Weezer has been neutered of that entire dynamic since he left.
I prefer the version they did with Asian Kung-Fu Generation

Rivers gave the sound to The Rentals, he taught Matt how to harmonize but I agree after Pinkerton Matt took that sound with him.
