The West Coast of British Columbia has been renown for the high ladder bridges and iconic trails shown in the early films of mountain biking and mountain unicycling. Dan Cowan (aka. Dangerous Dan) is one of the builders responsible for taking benign wooden creek crossings and elevating the bridges multiple human heights above the ground. Today, builders have moved away from the high, skinny wooden features, as the sport of mountain biking continues to evolve and concerns about liability have increased. The forgotten trails from the dawn of the age can still be found among the trees, memories of a time gone by, skeletons in the forest. The trails in this video are the most recent constructions by Dangerous Dan, but they too are slowly succumbing to the passing years and are being reclaimed by the forest.

WOW, dude! What a mix of calculated technical skinnies, bridges, and jumps with some hard shredding. I imagine that the audience retention on this video will be pretty high; I already watched it a few times, which is rare.
I think that is one of the best compliments, being able to watch a video multiple times! It's hard to do! I also rarely watch videos more then once. Thanks for the comment!
ryan, again you pushed the limits of mountain unicycling to incredible heights! i love it ❤
some old dangerous dan trails! you're a savage.
Awesome vid Ryan. You are constantly pushing the profile of muni with these videos which is awesome.
Thanks Steven!
Ryan Kremsater cool I want to do that
Crazy impressive riding! Looks like I have to travel soon to Canada if I still want to enjoy some of this stuff.
Make no mistake, the wood isn't going anywhere! It's just a little wider then 5 inches and a little lower then 10+ feet these days :P
Such a rad vid! Great riding and shooting!
Thanks!
Wow! You went huge! This is incredible! keep up the good work!
Part two is planned for May! (or whenever the trails dry out again. This old wood needs dry weather!)
So awesome! Can't wait to ride with you again in person someday hopefully soon.
Yeah hopefully soon! I know I've missed the last Moab and Sedona trips,.. but hopefully we can organize another weekend!
Amazing riding and great video!
Awesome!
wow! you are amazing
Wow, just wow. I would love to hike some of that. I know it's on Bowen, but where on Bowen? Any help?
Just been to the Banff film festival in Poole UK. Have you thought of entering a film to the Banff film festival?. I know Kris H had a film in years ago. This sort of film would make a great entry.
cool
Amazing skill! I keep trying and getting better on trails but some of them boardwalks are crazy height. What are peoples views on the usefulness of a disc brake on a unicycle for trails? Wondering if i should invest.
Outstanding video. I show your videos to my class as examples of resilience. ( I am a teacher..)
Was that the 27.5" used in that video?
Keep up the good work.
I love reading comments like these! This video was filmed in the fall of 2015 and at that time I was riding the KH26 with 3.0 Surly Knard. The North Shore Shred 2.0 is the only video I have filmed on the KH27.5 so far. The KH27.5 is a great unicycle and the one I currently ride!
Yeah, I can't do that.
Nice work, and great filming! What camera did you use for these shots? They are wonderful.
Thanks! I used a Canon 60d, and Glenn has a... Canon 70d at that point...
Since then I have upgraded to the Sony a6300, and Glenn to the Canon 80d; we both use the Sigma Art, 18-35mm f1.8 lens. - Beautiful lens!
I only did minimal post processing using Final Cut Pro... that's the next area for my video development.
what trail/trails are those. I live on the north shore and would like to visit them
Hey man, They're definitely worth checking out... it's cool to see what the old-school riders used to build. These trails are actually on Bowen Island, they're not exactly hidden, but they're hard to describe. Message me if you want more details!
Yea it definitely is. I have gone to see the flying circus and loved to see that. Are the trails near the ferry terminal or are they further away?
How?
the seat broke
Ryan crack!!!
1:44 - It's also wearing yellow! (and doing things at relatively extreme heights)
hahaha thanks James!
