Hi everyone! Just thought we'd reassure you this checklist was recorded before we started social distancing, and before UK government guidelines came into place. We're all now safely at home (separate ones - not some big Access house!). Hope you're all staying safe!
Somewhere in the multiverse there is a reality where Rob never died in that game and still to this day every now and then he'll load his save file to hang out in a tavern with his party.
So this is why he likes to be extremely overpowered when he faces the final boss. I just thought it was because he couldn't "git gud" when a game got hard. That's why I like being overpowered. Now I learn he is just really into the RP part of a JRPG.
I can't use consumable items in games, especially when there's only a limited amount of them. WHAT IF I USED THEM ALL UP BUT THEN I GET INTO A SITUATION WHERE I REALLY NEED THEM.
My one exception to this was always the final boss. It usually turned into a curb-stomp battle where I didn't need those items because I was so used to going without them, anyway, though.
Some of my rules is find out which way youre supposed to go then go the opposite way. Also never collect key items until im sure i found everything i could. Because you never know if that key item will bring up a cutscene or boss fight
The Witcher 3 was a game that rewarded that old-school style of play by often having items or chests in places you'd only see if you backtracked in certain areas or hidden behind objects. Really paid off to do as much digging around as possible!
@@luuketaylor oh yea definitely! I absolutely loved that exploration and the side quests were so indepth and not the same thing over again like some rpgs. It made exploration so rewarding
The reason why fire extinguishers are next to the door is for you to get out of the room as quickly as possible. Theyre usually next to the fire exit, this is incase the fire is blocking your exit. You should have a fire extinguisher next to any exit/ entrance. ...Im a health and safety person at my work...
Gemgem Because of this video I now have to go back and change a bunch of my Sims builds because I just placed the fire extinguisher where it looked nice and that's obviously not on... I know they actually pull them out of their butts, but it will bother me now!
It is also a psychological and structural thing. You will spot it quickly, because you instinctively search directly for an exit just in case and if the fire-extinguisher is always in a similar place, people now quickly where to find it without thinking or searching much.
@@willowweedsYT I actually learned recently that (at least in PS2) sims 2 fire extinguishers & alarms lower the fire risk limit in building. Found this when looking up cheat codes. I will definitely need to try it 😸
- If I can play a game non-lethal, I will ALWAYS play it non-lethal, even on first play through. It made Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain VERY... Interesting... - Unless I have to, I NEVER run away or escape from battles in JRPGs - In an RPG, I collect all weapons/items. I have 1 of everything, even if the item is naff
If it has a map that becomes unfogged as you travel through it, I simply have to reveal the whole thing. I cannot call a game 100% complete if the maps are not fully revealed.
@@fromthelostdays hahaha good point. I'm not on his level yet, but I just finished Witcher 3 for the first time, and my god.....them water graphics 😍😍😍
When I do a judgement in dragon age: inquisition, I always have to change into formal clothes first. It doesn’t feel like I’m taking it seriously if I just wear whatever.
Haven't played Dragon Age but I definitely like to change the characters' costumes in games to suit the occasion. I dress them warm if we're out exploring in snowy areas, if we're meting nobles or something I dress characters formally etc. Glad to see someone else doing it :)
Kris Hisakawa even on a replay... I always place myself in the shoes of the character... first I’m them then I’m me... if the game has true choice options.. if not then yah I’ll stop without finishing the playthrough...
I do this too. I started around college when I didn't have quite as much time as I used to. So now I do one game at a time. Unless it's something I know won't take me long then I'll have two but one main game and one short game that I'll generally finish in a few days to a week.
I've done this multiple times back in the day (not as often now though) with Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Prince of Persia, God of War, Crash Bandicoot, etc.
When playing Skyrim I always have to make sure I empty my inventory of non essentials after pretty much every quest. I go empty my crafting mats and ingredients for alchemy into containers in my home and then go give a beggar a coin (to increase sale prices for one hour) then go sell all the loot I got. I CANNOT under any circumstances start a fresh quest or dungeon delve unless my inventory is ready to take all the goodies I find..... speaking of which, another rule I impose is not to pick up anything worth less than 10 times its weight.
I don't go that far but I don't blame you. Being over-encumbered is the worst. More so in Oblivion where you are literally rooted to the spot if you are carrying too much. At least in Skyrim you are reduced to a slow walk so you can still go somewhere to get rid of your excess items without just dumping them on the floor and leaving them there.
My respects. Sadly, I don't think I could do it. So many of my favorite RPGs have weapon/armor synthesis systems that require previous armaments as components, some of which are unique so you can't ever get a replacement.
My best friend grew up playing PS1 and up. He and I played the soul caliber series and were so closely matched with Mitsurugi and Hwang. Lots of force blocks and side steps and near misses. We would "bow" at the start of the match with a crouch block for honour. We would also never allow a ring out to be win. He died a few years ago unexpectedly and it totally broke me. Now I can't play anyone without bowing at the start of a match. I imagine he would smile if he knew. Here's to you Bruno. Make sure to tell your bestie you love them as you may never know if it's your last match. Love you guys, always brings a smile to my face watching you.
They're by doors because in general, you remember where the door is or see where the other door of the room you are in is. Instinctively going towards the door is a lot easier getting an extinguisher in someone's hands than someone knowing the random locations of extinguishers in a random room they happen to be in.
I'll buy the sequels, but I won't play them until I've finished all the prior ones (people say Dark Souls 3 is an epic game, but I won't play it until I've finished Dark Souls 1 & 2)
Edmund Duhonský it’s hard to do (especially with all the Doom videos out) but there are definitely some positives like the fact that in a few months when I buy it it’ll be cheaper + I can get the physical copy instead which I prefer.
Yes. The game tends to be so much more fun and satisfying when you take the time to do this. You really end up getting your money's worth of the game also by doing that.
I never use fast travel unless I am only down to mopping up extra trophies. (In other words, I am done playing and exploring the game for the sake of the game).
MechWomanWarrior15 I always start out that way, but usually half way through I end up fast traveling. AC: Odyssey was the most recent, the map is just so huge that once I unlocked the fast travel it took too long to sail by ship
@@Doctor_Horrible759 I have not played Odyssey yet. But I try not to fast travel as much as possible. I traveled mostly on horseback in RDR2, occasionally taking the coach or the train. They released an update that allows you to travel directly from the camp you setup. I didn't know this until my second playthrough!
I wouldn't call myself a completionst, I don't hunt everything there is to do for trophies after all, but if you put any side quest in the game before the main one I can't get to the main story until I've exhausted all the side activities. To this day I've yet to beat Skyrim because of it.
For me it's more of an obsession that I don't want to miss anything because the other player(s) ran ahead of me. It comes from multiplayer games that allows anyone to trigger events and bosses.
As an extension of the 'no potions' rule, it also made sure I never used offensive magic, because my precious MP bar (Which was never refilled using Ethers) was for emergency heals only.
I like to follow the "Godfather" code in RPGs. I don't normally kill harmless NPCs for fun like Rob, but rather only when there is more to gain from it.
I can't carry max capacity of potions. That bothers me greatly, because you find potions everywhere and wouldn't be able to pick them up. so if the max is 99 I carry like 90.
Watched your channel since The Christmas Maze after being recommended it by a friend!! I was on the dark side of consoles or shall I say the ‘Mr X’ side since getting rid of my PS2 (sorry)... But you guys are awesome and have completely convinced me after watching all the Tuesday checklists and Friday features I have a list the size of my arm of PlayStation Exclusive games I want. Saving the pennies now for a few months to get a PS4 with Horizon Zero Dawn then the collection begins. Thank you for everything you guys do especially in the circumstances we’re in now. Keep up the great work!
This is exclusive to dark souls - I never consume any boss souls even if I'm in ng+3 and have all their weapons. Then I create their weapons a second time and I feed it to frampt like - have a good meal, snake. Also if I find a game very hard - I make sure I do it 100% as a sign of overcoming the challenge. I need to know I've defeated a threat. I still haven't played ds2 and 3 because I'm still going for the plat in ds. And couple this with the fact that I recently started playing games on the hardest difficulty and this results to me being burnt out on most games by the time I'm done
GRANDIA II is AMAZING!! I'd highly recommend you give it another go especially since they remastered it for the Switch! Replay it for Millenia if no one else
Damn right, I've been trying to spread word of the Grandia franchise for years, it is criminally underrated and G1 is literally my favourite game of all time.
@@lf3272 Basically, moon demons land on your planet and you crawl inside the main boss to kill it, kind of like what Tidus did in Final Fantasy 10. My memory IS a bit fuzzy though, so take this with a grain of salt.
You know what my weird rule is? In games with inventory management I always sort my items by type. Like if it's a game with guns all my ammo for a certain type of gun will be next to that gun ( even if you can't reload from the menu), all healing items will be together, etc.
My rule is that when I’m playing a game that requires resource gathering I never collect within view of my house. Like in Minecraft I will never cut trees that I can see from home.
I must always know all the available lore and background information if it's available and i'll always go for an analytical advantage rather than skill
Any game that gives you some sort of ultimate move or transformation such as God of War's rage of Sparta or a nuke in Fallout. I will fill the gauge and NEVER use it, just in case I need it later on (until I forget I even have it).
You know, I feel the same way, but there is a notable example of breaking this rule for me, and that's the final battle against Nobunaga in Onimusha 2. He was just so damn hard! Even so, its bothered me since, maybe forever.
I know what you mean. It was the only thing I didn't like about Yakuza on the harder fights it would keep asking you if you wanted to go to easy difficulty. no, No, NO!! That lil prick with the eye patch and baseball bat will fall by MY HAND! I don't need your pity!
This was me on Witcher 3 for the main game because of the achievement but the DLC didn't have similar so I just lowered the difficulty at various points.
I've been doing the same thing lately, Rob. I have so many games to play, and if the beginning doesn't go well...delete application haha. I also the same rule for supplies as you and Rosie! Once again, this crew just gets me!
it's been a month since I've played this game and I don't feel like getting to the fresh content right where I left off, I'll start from the beginning so I can ease into it again !
My Pokemon rules are: 1. My team can only consist of Pokemon native to the region I'm playing in, so no old Pokemon that just happen to be there as well. 2. Regional forms of old Pokemon are considered new but I also limit one per team. 3. No Legendary/Mythical Pokemon allowed on the team, ever. 4. Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon are not allowed on the team until after the main game is beaten. 5. Shiny Pokemon are allowed on the team regardless of rules as long as they're not a static shiny. I don't shiny hunt so I've seen maybe 2-3 shiny Pokemon throughout my life, so they get special treatment.
Inventory management. It depends on the game but if there are multiple containers (Fallout 4, Skyrim, Outer Worlds, etc) then weapons, armour, consumables and crafting mats all have to have their own storage container.
I have a few weird ones. For example, when I play a game like Skyrim I tend to play it like it's a TV show, where each quest line is a new arc. When I start a quest line I finish it before moving on, and I treat one-off quests like they're filler episodes. It's weird, I know, but that's how my brain works. Another weird one I do is for some games I restrict the use of fast travel. For example, again in Skyrim, I only fast travel if I'm using a carriage. Luckily some games already restrict fast travel for me, like The Witcher 3. EDIT: Another I do is specific to Pokemon, I never put my starter away, and my party rarely changes even when it would be advantageous to do so. By the end of it my party will always be my starter, the game's main legendary, and then whatever Pokemon I caught and was fond of. This usually works out in my favor because my Pokemon are always usually over-leveled by the time I reach the Elite Four, so even if there's a type disadvantage I'm never really in much trouble.
This is one I share with Rob. I can't leave any area of a map unexplored. I also have to finish all possible side quests before continuing with main storyline quests.
This is something i do in any game with a TON of sidecontent: I absolutely MUST do as much sidecontent as possible, as early as possible, before doing ANY story! It doesn't matter if i know that i will get way more abilities that would make this much easier to do later, i simply MUST have all those collectables,, find all those secrets, free all those outposts, doo all those sidequests, gain those levels and find all that loot the SECOND i get left alone, especially in open world games... If it so happens that a portion of the map is locked behind story, i just do everything i possibly can where i am, and then begrudingly do ONE story mission! If that story unlocks something new, i do it all again! At this time, i'm in the proces of cleaning up half the map in 2015s Mad Max, before even getting through the Jaw, while also catching every pokemon possible before each gym in pokemon Sword and Shield when i need a break from that...
Whenever I play a Batman: Arkham game I try to play it without taking a single hit or getting spotted in predator encounters. Batman doesn't get hit or seen and neither should I when I play those games.
I do that for every encounter while there's stealth in any game whether it be the Arkham games, middle earth games, death stranding, sekiro or even uncharted. It's the smart approach and the character would do the same thing.
The fire-extinguisher is always by the door, because, apart from the fire, it is one of the first places people look (instinct to have a get-out option)
When playing an RPG, I have to make sure my party is healed at all times. It's really weird as I have to expend whatever the magic or sp is, on doing so, as I usually don't have the items to do so. Only exception being early Star Ocean when you don't have a healer in your crew.
Roleplaying in skyrim. I do it all the time. Like for example when i play a dunmer i dont use necromancy because it goes against dunmer tradition exept for when i explicitly play a heretic or a vampire. I just cant do it. And whenever i see my bro play skyrim, rushing through questlines, ignoring the lore and making all desicions based on efficiency i feel pain in my heart XD
yes it's cheating in my book, goes against the spirit on the game, I can't understand why the devs would make a game like that then allow you to easy mode your way through, defeats the object of it, I'd always make sure I'd killed every boss solo at least once, like in dark souls 2 where you had to summon phantoms for quests or sunlight medals, the only expection was Ornstein and Smough but that was 2 on 1 so it was only fair, and also it was an AI NPC and not a human one. However on the dark souls remaster I beat them both solo on new game and new game plus as they were the only boss in the entire souls series I'd never beaten solo. Special mention frigid outskirts from dark souls 2, not going through a blizzard with no bonfire before the boss (that's why I never did it, no bonfire) to end up 2 on 1 vs 2 tigers one of which I'd already beaten, I've never beaten that boss to this day, what a bullshit area that is.
Great vid as always. First weird rule for myself I thought of was Pokemon, Gen 1'er here. My pokemon never get to switch out or have healing items used on them; they fight til they faint, toughens'em up I told myself. Probably inspired by that Sandshrew from the cartoon that trained with water even though it was his weakness.
Hi Rob! I've played Grandia 2 a long time ago, and I have to say it was really great, from start to the ending. I simply had to comment and suggest you to play through the game, because it's worth it.
I need a multiple of 5 in my inventory, an amount I just arbitrarily decide while playing. If I say 10, every item have to exist 10 time. Any other number tells me I have to restock, like a value to check if I'm well equipped. There are exceptions, for example the game uses smaller stack values like in Monster Hunter. Feels wrong tho.
I can't save and quit a game until I feel the characters are in a secure location. Normally a calm area, tavern or somewhere beautiful and chill, especially after completing the game. The character goes back to their home town then I'll save and quit. 🤣
As a JRPG person my rule was to have at least 1 of every item in my inventory, if i had several weapons and needed some gil i would sell those that i have more than 1 of. Unless it was rare.
Weird rules? I apply these to myself and they're usually mandatory: 1. In any game, stealth or not, if stealth is provided, I must clear the area of enemies in complete stealth, otherwise restart from the beginning of the area. 1.1 It doesn't count (for resetting) if enemies are alerted and you are not found. 2. In Danganronpa or Ace Attorney games, I am not allowed to reread/review the description of items/evidences, additionally I cannot make mistakes. 3. Always have items be ending with 0s or 5s. (Thanks Rosie, glad I'm not the only one, although mine is minimalistic in order to buy rare items). 4. I put a threshold on items, before I use them, basically and usually I must not use an item if it doesn't exceed a certain number of it. 5. In Call of Duty, I must not use flashbangs, unless said so. And my gun needs to have lots of ammo reserved, which may result into "acceptable and necessary" friendly fire.
I swear I did the exact same thing in Grandia 2. I don’t remember the story at all but I do remember a difficulty spike and my young self thinking “well, I guess that is where my adventure comes to and end”. It probably helped this attitude that it was a rental and not part of my library.
Oh boy I have so many of these. In Stealth games: I cannot be spotted. Spotted means an immediate save reload / restart of the level. I must kill or knock out every hostile in the level (blame Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven - because of this when I play Thief I blackjack everyone and have a pile of unconscious bodies somewhere) In RPG's / games with RPG elements (like Bloodstained): I also have the 5 / 0 / 99 item habit If there is a map you fill in gradually I have to fill in the whole thing before moving on If there are job classes, every character in my final party has to master every single one of them Before I finish the game everyone must be min / maxed as high as possible In every area, I have to do every side quest possible before moving on If there is a bestiary, item compendium, etc, I have to complete it If I find out I missed a missable item I have to restart If there are items to pick up in an area, I have to pick them all up - even if I already have 99 of one of them In fighting games: How dare you spam jump / low kicks Shooters: How dare you camp There are probably loads more of these but those are off the top of my head.
Mine is similar to Rosie's, plus I need to always have at least 1 (or as many as I can buy) of everything. In any final fantasy especially. I always get out of the merchant seemingly ready to fight a lot of malboros.
I love that you showed Grandia 2. I overleveled like crazy in this one and enjoyed it so so much :D The fighting is just so fun. If a Jrpg has a fighting system I like, I overlevel everytime :D Really sad though to hear, that you never finished Grandia 2, Rob. Grandia 1 and 2 are my alltime favourite Jrpgs (maybe apart from FF9 and 10) and the story is extraordinary. So if you ever feel like trying again - please do, its such an immerssive story with beautiful characters that I will never forget :)
A rule I established for myself while playing Kingdom Hearts III is only play it on my day off or at night before a day off. I did it this way because I get home from work at 10:30 pm so I knew if I started on a work night I would end up losing track of time and play til 4 or 5 am. Then I didn’t follow that rule when I was playing back through the KH games on the HD collection and ended up being up exactly that late during the final stages of Birth by Sleep. So I’ve gone back to that rule of only playing games on my day off or the night before one.
I’m with Rob and Rosie! Over leveling and item management in 5s or 10s. I used to have this rule that I have to play difficulty level normal or higher, never easy, but I’ve abandoned that rule..
My toaster caught on fire while I watched this. My house is ablaze, I'm outside... I told all the fire fighters they aren't trained like Dave and we have to wait for him to fight this fire.
I have several but my 2 noteworthy rules I give myself in games are 1.) If I take ANY damage at all in a game I have to heal, I CANNOT be last then 100% health in game If I do not have a way to heal I will stop what quest/mission/ect. I am doing to go buy healing supplies to stay at full health all the time. My second is something new I noticed but I do it alot in other games too.... 2.) Always craft and use the weaker easier to make weapons/tools in a game BUT carry a set of the better equipment with you JUST in case specifically animal crossing. I will always carry and make flimsy tools but make sure I have the better tools with me but I'll ONLY use the flimsy tools because I feel like they are just SO much easier to make and you need them to make better tools anyways, but also in shooters if I have a pistol and I shotgun or a assault rifle I will use the pistol first ALWAYS even online matchs because what if I run out of ammo...?
A maybe-weird rule I impose upon myself is to always have both a primary weapon and a primary tool on me at all times, regardless of inventory constraints or whether they're even useful for what I'm about to be doing, and a backup for them. Minecraft, for instance; I always have a pickaxe, and I always have a sword in slots one and two. Never anything else and never ever lacking them unless they've broken and I've run out of replacements. My very next action? Replace them. All else can wait until I've got two pickaxes and a sword. That's just an example, though. Pretty much any game that has both tools and weapons, I always have a primary semi-frequently used tool on me, especially if it's used for finding or unlocking secrets. I also always have a weapon that's versatile enough to handle most situations competently, in addition to a weapon that's specifically suited to a long-distance or heavy-stealth play-style. If I catch myself without all of those, I feel utterly naked and vulnerable the entire time, whether I need them or not.
In open world games, i like to keep the markers, lines, any kind of guide. So, to balance that i have three rules: 1. No fast travel 2. If the marker is below 1k meters, proceed on foot. 3. Following two, if there's a point of interest in the way, absolutely go there. That's why took me a whole week to do ONE story mission in Novigrad in The Witcher 3. In JRPGs i gotta have maximum capacity of every item, if possible. So, by the end, when normally you are rolling in cash, i used to buy every basic healing and whatnot even knowing that i wouldn't use any. And i like to collect weapons too, "oh, there's a worthless sword with 0.1% drop rate". I don't have it, so, sure, let's grab it!
1) never play on easy mode 2) On sports games if your opponent concedes a goal from glitches or general shenanigans then score an own goal to make up for it. 3) play the opening level on normal level to get hang of basic controls and general mechanics then start a new game on hard mode unless hard mode is reserved for new game plus 4) where possible I always role play as magic swordsman on my first play through 5) Never sell weapons that are family heirlooms or have some history related to main characters or party members e.g Asala from DAO 6) No scum saving for monetary or personal gain. frequent saves are only done to prevent loss of game play due to glitches 7) In games where possible do not use optional AI assistance for boss fights on first play through e.g summoning in souls games etc
Absolutely agree with Rosie. Keep that inventory just right. My ruleis always save manually into 3 save slots and rotate the order due to time play. That way if you fall into a hopeless situation you can fall back and come back to it 3 times stacked.
1- If I play a game with a good/bad route, I'll ALWAYS play the good guy. 2- I'll pick up anything that lies on the ground or that can be grabbed even if I don't need a huge amount yet. 3- If I can swap party members, I'll make sure that everyone has the same level. 4- I'll complete a map even if I don't get achievements for it. 5- If I get items that are excessively rare in games (ex: Megalixirs), I will not use them AT ALL. 6- If I finish the main story, there is a very small chance that I'll continue playing. That's some quirks that I picked from being a games tester AND a decades-long RPG player.
Dear Rob, I am a fellow over leveler and I understand your plight. One game I found very frustrating was the Lunar series. (Silver star, blue star, etc) This game will let you beat enemies like normal but ALL boss battles auto level to 10 above whatever you are. I just wanted to warn you and any other power levelers out there. I still recommend this series, but ooh, it does throw me off my rhythm!
Speaking of Grandia, you could control the stat growth quite well in 1, so my rule was Justin is the Hero & therefore needs to be the strongest - so I’d only grind his level up. He usually had about 30-50 more on each stat over Feena as I went on
In 2 Point Hospital you only need extinguishers for rooms with 'equipment' in it, like the treadmill in the Cardio room, but not the vending machines in the staff room. More advanced equipment degrades faster. Only janitors put out fires and they will first run to the fire, then run to the nearest extinguisher.
gamers seem to be a very OCD or on the spectrum bunch, they have lots of strange habits, I'm a completionist and I do have the one where I don't really like using items in case I need them later thing!
Never EVER use an item in battle. Absolutely never. Healing potion? Health regenerating food? Boost of any kind? Nope. All fights must be fair, no doping involved. And if your opponent uses items? Well, then their defeat will be even sweeter. Also, and maybe most importantly: When I've managed to 100% a game officially I will then go out of my way to max out everything I can, like money and such and proceed to buy the max quantity of all consumable items and stuff of the sort. Equipment too if money is easy to get in that game. Then, after I've done everything and there is literally nothing else I could possibly achieve, I take a print or whatever memento I choose, save, take a deep breath and proceed to delete the save file. It's such a good feeling, really, finishing a game you loved and learned a lot with and letting go like that now that you've completed it. It's really liberating.
I'm with Nathan on this one. Here in Trinidad XMen vs Street Fighter was super popular and there were players who would do something we call "kicknthrow", where they would knock you down and if you weren't quick enough to roll away, they would walk up to you and throw your character until you died. It was considered a douche move and skilled players would never do it.
On Soul Calibur when playing as Siegfried I used to delight in using his multiple stamp move when the opponent was down. I can well imagine Nath becoming incensed with such behaviour.
Hi everyone! Just thought we'd reassure you this checklist was recorded before we started social distancing, and before UK government guidelines came into place. We're all now safely at home (separate ones - not some big Access house!). Hope you're all staying safe!
Stay safe, guys! Your lovely faces and laughter help everyone out here. I think I speak for everyone when I say, Thank you for everything you do!
More of an excuse to play some great games 😉
An Access house does sound cool
Thank you for saying so! (Otherwise 2/3 of the comments would be telling you to go home. )
Well thanks, now my illusion of you all living in The Access house together as some kind of amazing sitcom has been shattered ☹️

@@retrogamerdad9621 It has to become easy because you're skilled and good! Not start easy because you're bad 😁

The reason why fire extinguishers are next to the door is for you to get out of the room as quickly as possible. Theyre usually next to the fire exit, this is incase the fire is blocking your exit. You should have a fire extinguisher next to any exit/ entrance.

Gemgem Because of this video I now have to go back and change a bunch of my Sims builds because I just placed the fire extinguisher where it looked nice and that's obviously not on... I know they actually pull them out of their butts, but it will bother me now!
But if the fire is blocking the exit, could it not also block the extinguisher, or make retrieving it without getting burned unlikely?
It is also a psychological and structural thing. You will spot it quickly, because you instinctively search directly for an exit just in case and if the fire-extinguisher is always in a similar place, people now quickly where to find it without thinking or searching much.
@@PerovNigma that's a good question but wouldn't it explode from the heat & the foamy contents help extinguish the fir anyway?
@@willowweedsYT I actually learned recently that (at least in PS2) sims 2 fire extinguishers & alarms lower the fire risk limit in building. Found this when looking up cheat codes. I will definitely need to try it 😸
- If I can play a game non-lethal, I will ALWAYS play it non-lethal, even on first play through. It made Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain VERY... Interesting...
- Unless I have to, I NEVER run away or escape from battles in JRPGs
- In an RPG, I collect all weapons/items. I have 1 of everything, even if the item is naff
Same, also if there is stealth i must never be detected. Even tried that in Sekiro
If it has a map that becomes unfogged as you travel through it, I simply have to reveal the whole thing. I cannot call a game 100% complete if the maps are not fully revealed.
Always do all side missions before attempting any main mission. Never run from any fight....
I do that in a lot of games
I do that in a lot of games
Exactly!
We are part of the same creed.
Assassins creed black flag was it for me
The first weapon I get in an rpg I’ll save forever, no matter what. It’s to remind me where I started
Fallout 3 every playthrough I'd keep the BB gun you get for your 10th birthday cause memories
i litreally sell it the first chance i get.
There are enough games out there that require it for an ultimate weapon or something silly it’s normally a good habit just in case
Sometimes it can be upgraded to legendary status. The wooden sword in ninja guidan comes to mind

"Forcing himself" makes it sound like it isn't his joy and pleasure to do so. :-)

Yep, same.
Haven't played Dragon Age but I definitely like to change the characters' costumes in games to suit the occasion. I dress them warm if we're out exploring in snowy areas, if we're meting nobles or something I dress characters formally etc. Glad to see someone else doing it :)
My only unwritten rule would be that I won’t start another game until I’ve finished the one I’m playing
I wish I had that rule, hahahaha.
same, unless its a replay
Kris Hisakawa even on a replay... I always place myself in the shoes of the character... first I’m them then I’m me... if the game has true choice options.. if not then yah I’ll stop without finishing the playthrough...
You are what I aspire to be!
I do this too. I started around college when I didn't have quite as much time as I used to. So now I do one game at a time. Unless it's something I know won't take me long then I'll have two but one main game and one short game that I'll generally finish in a few days to a week.
Do absolutely everything in the game, all side quests and whatnot. Even when I'm not that crazy about a game, I'm just too much of a completionist.
Same here
Brain: _''I know the game wants me to go down this path, but imma check around this corner anyway''_
Yes that's why I can't finish Death Stranding there is a ridiculous amount of side quest I'm overwhelmed.
This rule is why i played witcher 3 for 1000+ hours
Back on PS3 the first Infamous broke me out of this. Too...many...SHARDS...
If I get and enjoy a game from a franchise/series, I try to go back and play through the entire franchise from its 1st game to its latest game.
The Phantom Starfish That’s what I’m doing with Final Fantasy. It’s been a rather interesting experience.
I like to do this as well, I intend to replay Dragon Age when the next one comes out.
@@yaboi2500 SAAAMMEE I'm also doing it in final fantasy right now, currently I am playing final fantasy 1 and trying to finish all the bonus dungeons.
I've done this multiple times back in the day (not as often now though) with Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Prince of Persia, God of War, Crash Bandicoot, etc.
I have never agreed with something as quickly as I agreed with Rosie entry in this
When playing Skyrim I always have to make sure I empty my inventory of non essentials after pretty much every quest.
I need to have at least 1 of everything! Heal potions, weapons, armor, doesn't matter... I need to have it.
My respects. Sadly, I don't think I could do it. So many of my favorite RPGs have weapon/armor synthesis systems that require previous armaments as components,
some of which are unique so you can't ever get a replacement.
@@mappybc6097 ah, and I will begrudgingly give up the unique items for more unique items... But I would be grumpy
This is an RPG rule that I ingrained many moons ago.
New Game +'s were such a game changer for me.
Instinctively going towards the door is a lot easier getting an extinguisher in someone's hands than someone knowing the random locations of extinguishers in a random room they happen to be in.
not using any items because im saving them for “if i need them later”
saving twice (if possible) in a row is ingrained within me, that even includes in the hardest difficulty of Dead space 2.
I don’t buy the sequels to game until I finish the one prior to it (Ex. Haven’t finished Doom so I haven’t bought DOOM Eternal)
I'll buy the sequels, but I won't play them until I've finished all the prior ones (people say Dark Souls 3 is an epic game, but I won't play it until I've finished Dark Souls 1 & 2)
I wish I had your willpower!
Yeah now you’ve said it I’m the same, I didn’t play the Witcher 1 or 2 so didn’t buy 3. Same with Dark Souls 1 and 2 so didn’t buy 3
Edmund Duhonský it’s hard to do (especially with all the Doom videos out) but there are definitely some positives like the fact that in a few months when I buy it it’ll be cheaper + I can get the physical copy instead which I prefer.
Death by Konami I only did that with the Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid series’s because I found their games on sale and stuff
Especially in RPGs: Read all the books/journals/etc and never skip any dialogue. The story matters.
Yes. The game tends to be so much more fun and satisfying when you take the time to do this. You really end up getting your money's worth of the game also by doing that.
Aww man it helps to get in the head of the character or lore.
So. Much. Lore!
same
why are you playing an RPG if you are going to skip the dialogue ?, might as well play a PVP game.
Man I miss these... never thought you could be nostalgic for something you’ve been missing for less than a year... but that’s 2020 for you...
I love the entire Grandia series and have very fond memories of it.
I wouldn't call myself a completionst, I don't hunt everything there is to do for trophies after all, but if you put any side quest in the game before the main one I can't get to the main story until I've exhausted all the side activities.
To this day I've yet to beat Skyrim because of it.
Same with FF15 for me
I can never have help from an NPC or other online players on souls like games such as bloodborne I always lose a sense of accomplishment.
For the longest time I didn't even know it was a thing
For me it's more of an obsession that I don't want to miss anything because the other player(s) ran ahead of me. It comes from multiplayer games that allows anyone to trigger events and bosses.
Conversely I have to help online random players in an area x50 times before I will move to the next section.
No potions. I gotta save it.
Joruno - I always have to have above a certain number(which always ends with a 5 or 0)
As an extension of the 'no potions' rule, it also made sure I never used offensive magic, because my precious MP bar (Which was never refilled using Ethers) was for emergency heals only.
For sure!
I was so psyched when I saw the thumbnail. Grandia 2 is one of my all time faves! Well played Sir Rob
I like to follow the "Godfather" code in RPGs. I don't normally kill harmless NPCs for fun like Rob, but rather only when there is more to gain from it.
unless he fights me , i don't fight him.
Exactly.
What if it’s Nazeem?
@@thelotuseater6496 There is something to gain from killing Nazeem. He will finally stop annoying you with his presence.
When it comes to random encounters in JRPGs, I will NEVER run away. Easiest way to not have to grind if the grind is a rule
ChandSlam run away and let the level 5 flan dictate who’s the dominant one in the world where I’m the chosen one? I thinkaga not
I can't carry max capacity of potions. That bothers me greatly, because you find potions everywhere and wouldn't be able to pick them up. so if the max is 99 I carry like 90.
Items in quantities of multiples of 10 and if a game has inventory slots then it has to be symmetrical at all times.
Play on normal the first time, master the game on hardest later
GRANDIA II is AMAZING!! I'd highly recommend you give it another go especially since they remastered it for the Switch! Replay it for Millenia if no one else
Millenia best girl.
Damn right, I've been trying to spread word of the Grandia franchise for years, it is criminally underrated and G1 is literally my favourite game of all time.
Try to annoy my buddy NotSoFreudian into finishing his play through.
What happened at the end?!
@@lf3272 Basically, moon demons land on your planet and you crawl inside the main boss to kill it, kind of like what Tidus did in Final Fantasy 10.
My memory IS a bit fuzzy though, so take this with a grain of salt.
Weird Rule: There has to be a bathroom in each of my settlements in Fallout 4.
"12 potions" *shiver* I hear you Rob and Rosie
You know what my weird rule is?
In games with inventory management I always sort my items by type. Like if it's a game with guns all my ammo for a certain type of gun will be next to that gun ( even if you can't reload from the menu), all healing items will be together, etc.
My rule is that when I’m playing a game that requires resource gathering I never collect within view of my house. Like in Minecraft I will never cut trees that I can see from home.
I must always know all the available lore and background information if it's available and i'll always go for an analytical advantage rather than skill
Omg same!
To defeat an enemy, you must know it's history and art. You, me, and Thrawn.
Any game that gives you some sort of ultimate move or transformation such as God of War's rage of Sparta or a nuke in Fallout. I will fill the gauge and NEVER use it, just in case I need it later on (until I forget I even have it).
Anyone else who have rules about never lowering the diffeculty due to being stuck? I NEVER lower to "easy." I would rather quit!
In Dragonball fighting games: only use ultimate attacks if it will finish off your opponent. Yamcha is NOT getting up after a Hellzone Grenade.
I do that in all fighting games that have super moves. They're known as finishing moves for a reason.
I’m with rob over leveling is my game
My Name Rob plays all games as if they're rogue likes...
Me too
FreshSalmon not all games are about gameplay story aspects are fun too
it's been a month since I've played this game and I don't feel like getting to the fresh content right where I left off, I'll start from the beginning so I can ease into it again !
I never use legendary pokemon when beating the elite four for the first time through the game.
My Pokemon rules are:
As said agreed, that little low kick KO is so much the equivalent of a sweaty goal
I love those one day back in time check lists, makes me just so nostalgic.
Same. It really makes you a master at the game
Batman gets hit all the time lol
hell yes
it’s a bit strange no one said “reloading my weapon after shooting one bullet”. i’m pretty sure we all do that
The fire-extinguisher is always by the door, because, apart from the fire, it is one of the first places people look (instinct to have a get-out option)
The ending of Grandia 2 is actually great! All the characters get their satisfying little epilogues and a beautiful song plays.
Shout out to all those items we consciously keep for ourselves in RPG's and JRPG's, only to end the game and never use them.
I expected Nathan to say "never summon another player in a souls game"
yes it's cheating in my book, goes against the spirit on the game, I can't understand why the devs would make a game like that then allow you to easy mode your way through, defeats the object of it, I'd always make sure I'd killed every boss solo at least once, like in dark souls 2 where you had to summon phantoms for quests or sunlight medals, the only expection was Ornstein and Smough but that was 2 on 1 so it was only fair, and also it was an AI NPC and not a human one.
I click because of grandia 2. One of my fav jrpg ever.
Rob's whole "you roleplayed too hard" bit is perhaps my favorite thing I've seen from the channel in a long time.
I apply these to myself and they're usually mandatory:
In Stealth games:
I cannot be spotted. Spotted means an immediate save reload / restart of the level.
I must kill or knock out every hostile in the level (blame Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven - because of this when I play Thief I blackjack everyone and have a pile of unconscious bodies somewhere)
In RPG's / games with RPG elements (like Bloodstained):
I also have the 5 / 0 / 99 item habit
If there is a map you fill in gradually I have to fill in the whole thing before moving on
If there are job classes, every character in my final party has to master every single one of them
Before I finish the game everyone must be min / maxed as high as possible
In every area, I have to do every side quest possible before moving on
If there is a bestiary, item compendium, etc, I have to complete it
If I find out I missed a missable item I have to restart
If there are items to pick up in an area, I have to pick them all up - even if I already have 99 of one of them
In fighting games:
How dare you spam jump / low kicks
Shooters:
How dare you camp
There are probably loads more of these but those are off the top of my head.
Always having the perfect 3red person camera angle. Gave me the habit of claw technique
This video makes everyone acting quite cute. It is a sweet one.
I'm the same as Rosie with items... i really can understand that
I’m with Rob and Rosie!
I have several but my 2 noteworthy rules I give myself in games are
1.) If I take ANY damage at all in a game I have to heal, I CANNOT be last then 100% health in game If I do not have a way to heal I will stop what quest/mission/ect.
This drives me crazy at times.
Watching people play Overcooked and when they complain about ingredients on the floor.
1) never play on easy mode
2) On sports games if your opponent concedes a goal from glitches or general shenanigans then score an own goal to make up for it.
3) play the opening level on normal level to get hang of basic controls and general mechanics then start a new game on hard mode unless hard mode is reserved for new game plus
4) where possible I always role play as magic swordsman on my first play through
5) Never sell weapons that are family heirlooms or have some history related to main characters or party members e.g Asala from DAO
6) No scum saving for monetary or personal gain. frequent saves are only done to prevent loss of game play due to glitches
7) In games where possible do not use optional AI assistance for boss fights on first play through e.g summoning in souls games etc
PS Access need to bring this segment back, with Rosie, Ash and Dan of course
He usually had about 30-50 more on each stat over Feena as I went on
Rob and Rosie are absolutly right, must have exact inventorys!
I have to watch the credits of every game I ever beat partly out of respect and partly out of missing that one famous post credit cutscene.
I'm at the 10 minute mark and I'm asking myself: is this video about videogames or OCD? ;P
Yes :D
gamers seem to be a very OCD or on the spectrum bunch, they have lots of strange habits, I'm a completionist and I do have the one where I don't really like using items in case I need them later thing!
