**MY COLOR SETTINGS:** Ignore BACKLIGHT and any other settings if your TV does not have a backlight or stated setting - all of this is AFTER you do the auto-color calibration on your TV - if you dont have Auto-Calibration, this should still give you a place to start! If there are other settings you have that are not listed, feel free to ask!
    Backlight - 75
    Brightness - 47
    Contrast - 58
    Tint - 0
    Sharpness - 30
    Color Temp - Normal
    Black Detail - Medium
Super Resolution - Low-Medium depending on source
    Edge Enhancement - Off
    Local Contrast - Medium
Back Light Control - On (keeps it from over-brightening dark scenes)
    Reduce Noise - Off
    Gamma - 2.4
    Full Color - 4:4:4

I pulled the trigger on an AWOL Vision 2500 short throw projector this year. There's something about watching reflected light on a screen that really gives that theater experience. You do need a completely dark room though.
I rip my movies to a hard drive and watch them though Zidoo devices. Very nice quality players and it allows me to sell off discs that I don't need to own, but still keep a high quality copy of the movie.

    • @AVAPopCulture
      @AVAPopCulture  4 дні тому

@Ghostrecon12 It would be easy to list the most expensive things but honestly, how many people are going to spend $1300 on a A/V reciever just to get maybe 50 more useable watts per channel?
Or why pay $600 for a subwoofer instead of $249 for Kilpsch because it has slightly better performance that 99% of people can't distinguish...
Or why spend 3 times the price on a Sony Bravia OLED for a tiny bit better picture that you'd have to pause and pixel peek to see?
If funds are unlimited then go all out, but I'd rather have something 99% as good for 25% of the price 😆

At 10:00, tip: If your receiver lacks dolby vision but u still want the sound decoded from your receiver, what u can do is putting the hdmi cable for just sound on the 2nd port that is only for sound to your receiver and the port thats sound+video to your tv directly (just remember choosing the correct tv input) for video, bypasses that issue. My receiver lacks d.v. but when I get m2 4k player from Sony, then I will do that operacion.

I have suggestions out the wahoo about surround setup. I get it, BUDGET! So I will keep that in mind and limit my thoughts. First one is with Atmos. With such high ceilings, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT rest on front speakers and try the bouncy house method. Ideal for Atmos with just two is directly above you or hanging on the wall to the left and right angled towards listening position and set as top middle in the receiver. I deal for you is to get another set of floor standers to use as surrounds and get the angled speakers you are talking about and put them on that ceiling shelf front and back and set your receiver to front and rear height.
Center Channel should be pulled forward to the front lip or even further out on the shelf to remove shelf resonances as much as you can. Ideally it would be on top of your stand pulled all the way forward to the edge. As is you are causing sound reflections the results in certain frequency cancellations compromising the sound.
Subwoofer: Klipsch has gotten better but I would not recommend. Budget friendly I like the RSL Speedwoofer 10E as a minimum. SVS subs are great to get from big retailers with great warranty. I would strongly suggest to order direct as you get some added benefits. Read the SVS Bill of Rights. HSU & Rythmik are great internet direct subs. Spending 1500 or more I strongly suggest Internet Direct brands for more performance for money. I am a personal fan of what the Power Sound Audio subs deliver. JTR and Harbottle are next level and certainly not budget friendly.

I get it man!... I have edited sound and mixed sound for movies for a long time, I am just not "that" into sound where I worry if my center channel is 1/4 inch recessed vs on top of my tv stand... I'll probably put the atmos speakers (whenever I get them) on the shelf ledged about 9 feet up and angled down but I may put tehm on top of the other speakers too because I dont know if I want my living room to have hanging speakers on the main wall be the focal point when you walk into my house lol and for the Subwoofer, 99% of people will not notice the difference in the bass-end enough to invest the extra $300-ish and I like to match my speakers (Id change those Bose rear speakers if you could see they were different) remember, stats say that almost 8 in 10 people with a "home theater" listen on Soundbars or less LOL - I cant do that BUT personally, am not an audiophile enough to worry about that...I am about having my collecting and setups fit into my lifestyle and design rather than have it take it over (same reason I dont just accumulate titles, I curate a movie collection)
BUT everyone gets into different aspects and that is what is so cool about it!....

Some good suggestions here. I had the bouncy atmos when I first went to atmos. I now have them on my ceiling (4 speakers) and it made a huge difference. I also have a pair of svs subs and I love those things. I do have klipsch for my bed layer speakers tho. I demo’d a few different kinds that were my budget, and just preferred the way the klipsch sounded

@@43bigsteve Klipsch Speakers are good value and there is a reason they are so popular, many like the sound. Klipsch subwoofers though? Not so much. Never soundbar, just no
Go with Micca speakers. Better than Bose and way cheaper and easy to drive speakers too.
No bouncing atmos out of any ceiling, it doesn't work.
Hang Em higher on the wall, no need to go to the ceiling. Same effect, easier to do.
    No Frankensteining Front Left,Center,Right
Speakers dont have the same sound profile and tend to have drop off between them when crossing through channels.
Not noticeable if speakers are right next to each other, but as soon as you put space between them it will be noticeable. You can get away with different brands spk for surround.
    My setup 5.1.4:
    TCL mini led 55”
    Panasonic 820k
    Elac Debut 2.0 spk
    Micca Covo Atmos
    Klipsch 12” wireless sub

Thanks for the showing. Love your living room! Perfect for height speakers! Love the windows too. If I lived there and had lots of money I would probably turn it into a gothic looking horror cave home cinema. Hehe. Really cool place!
Hard to get it dark I know. Theres hope though. A swedish science woman showed off a window with built in liquid ceystal tech. The crystals had three states. Clear, diffusion and black. So by giving them current in a short impulse the state changed until you gave a new impulse. Thats the windows i want!😊
I have a 65” LG OLED since 4 years. My second OLED actually. Been following the development of the technique for many yesrs. Did you know it is based on a trch from the 1950’s? Cool!
Then I have a moded SONY X800 4K player. Moded with I.C.O.S. To make it region free. It changes dvd region automatically and bluray with one click on a button. Great player!
Receiver is a 4K capable Yamaha RX-850. Dolby ATMOS but not DTS-X sadly. But sounds so good!
Center and full size left and right front speakers from swedish QLM. i need no sub. I promisse! Lol
4 surround speakers of unknown origin that where cheap bit sounds much better than I expected. Costed meabout $200 for all four.
My dream is a larger room and a huge OLED. 120” or more. Hehe. I love to be immersed in the movie.
Btw: Do you have a patreon account or so? I tried to join your channel but cant find a joon button. Not on my phone anyway.

If you are looking for an HDR-compatible TV, one that supports HDR10+ is perfectly fine. Technically, Dolby Vision is better, but unless you pause and pixel peep, you would not know. Also, OLED is expensive for the bigger sizes, but Mini-LED is almost as good and cheaper. I wanted an 85", so I went with Mini-LED, and they get WAY brighter than OLED, so if I were you in that room, than look at Mini-LED.

As a calibrator typically on most tv you can get the closest to industry standard wp d65 if you put your tv in cinema or movie mode or equivalent. Then disable all the extra image processing like de-noisers black frame insertion de-judders etc. I recommend leaving on or auto to film mode that helps with 24 frame content like movies. Then go to color temperature settings find the warm or warm 2 depends on make model. Turn off over scanning “aspect ratio” so you’re getting what was intended not cropping the image. Turn off sharpness you simply do not need it for hd 1080p and above imo lots of issues with haloing image aliasing. After that you really need a professional to come out do a calibration of your white point or create a 2d or 3d lut. You can purchase a spears and munsiel test disc to help setting sharpness and over scan. On Dolby or hdr best to leave all the settings at default putting in a cinema movie mode is gonna be closer to industry standard. Following someone else’s numbers won’t work as intended because of panel variances coming off the assembly variances in chip sets and also how dark there room
    Is when viewing.

I watched one of your recent reviews and you mentioned The Beast Within.. The Kit Harrington Werewolf movie. Always enjoy a good movie conversation.. I took from the film is that he is seriously mentally ill to the point they see him as the monster.. I don't think he is a Werewolf at all. Interesting film though.. Its the way he behaved and kept Changing in human form.. Interested to hear what others think you have watched it :)

    • @AVAPopCulture
      @AVAPopCulture  5 днів тому +1

I think the issue with the idea that he is not a werewolf is all of the things that are done that the girl cannot see...like locking him up with a pig to eat etc and the wife and dad talking about what would happen if he got loose from being chained up...also, Kit's character clearly gets smacked around pretty easy by the dad when not a wolf earlier in the movie, but later, he throws her dad up onto the wall and where he is hung by antlers (not to mention the door is blown open with huge force by the "wolf" that a man couldnt do) and his heightened smell and senses etc....I can see the other arguement but then it leaves gaping plot holes and meaningless scenes from throughout the film if that is the case....

I strongly recommend taking a look at the LG G4 and Samsung QD Oleds, they are so bright that there is no reason to buy any other technology than oled.
The only reason not to buy an Oled TV is if you want to get a Ultra short throw projector with a floor rising screen.

You’ll always have blooming in QLEDs as is the nature with them, but I feel like you have one of the cheaper Vizio QLEDs like the M6 series. I have a 75” Vizio P-series QLED in my living room and a 75” Vizio M7 series in my bedroom. And I have to say that the P-series QLED is one of the best QLEDs on the market. And while it does have some blooming as all QLEDs will, it’s not as prominent and the colors are more vibrant than any normal OLED TV can ever muster. It’s not until they add the QLED quantum dot panel with the QD-OLEDs that OLEDs start to be better color and brightness wise to normal QLEDs.
If you’re getting an OLED, get a QD-OLED. Otherwise just stick to the higher quality QLEDs/Mini-LED QLEDs.

Both the Sony X800 and the Pana UB820 have one big advantage: 2 hdmi ports, one for audio/video and one for audio only. Yes, you would need 2 hdmi cables but trust me, bypassing the receiver's 4k passthrough is the best option. So, in the case of these players, you can plug an hdmi cable straight to the tv, for video signal only, and another hdmi cable straight to the receiver, for audio only. That way, you'll have complete separation between the audio and the video signals, which is always better.

yeah that is a great reciever - it is in the $1300 range like my Yamaha was but most people arent going to pay that for a A/V reciever for "useable" 50 Watts per channel increase over a $399 Denon - there has been some signal issues with the Onkyo too but if you have the $ then I say go for it! Onkyo has been a great brand for a long time!

@@AVAPopCulture That Onkyo RZ50 receiver was $1500 when it was new a couple years ago. I've seen it on sale for under $1000 in the last 6 months. 2 years ago, I got an Onkyo NR-TX7100, which is the next step below the Z50 for about $1050. That is much cheaper now, then when I bought mine ($600-700). I can play 4k, 120Hz on 4 HDMI ports. Plus it has 2 more HDMI ports that aren't full bandwidth. It has Dolby Atmos, DTS X, IMAX, DolbyVision. I have an LG C1 65" OLED TV and a Sony X700m 4k player, 4k Firestick Max and a PC connected to it. The TV was around $1500 in late 2022 and player was around $160 last year. For right now, I have a 5.1 speaker setup but would like to upgrade to Atmos setup with height channels. My computer doesn't have DolbyVision when playing media, but the Bluray player and Firestick, do.
I would recommend getting an OLED TV. It's such a big upgrade from the 55" Samsung 4k LCD from 2019 I used to use. I gave that TV to my daughter, when I upgraded 2 years ago. The HDR is a night and day difference. Watching movies on 4k HDR is a new experience, compared to 1080P bluray, which is still good in most cases, or watching movies in 4k on my previous TV.

    Is when viewing.

just trying to give people a base guideline my dude and answer the question on what my general settings are....I've been doing tv calibrations for many years - and I professionally color correct and color grade feature films.... you can "yeah but" and do "well actually" and "if and but" forever, I'm just trying to give people a general idea and place to start here...the professional calibration, which I have been paid to do for a long time, and creating and uploading LUTs to a tv etc etc etc, is way overstated in value for the visual difference you see and still falls back to "taste" -some people like warmer looks or cooler etc and it is overkill for 99% of people

I think that oiled in your living room wouldn’t be that great because of the windows. Plus the other tv you want to put is bigger and more affordable. But for that little room the ones would work and if you go on B&h website you could get an oled with there credit card with no tax on the tv just a flat price. That’ll save you even more cash. I bought my oled c1 65 in tv when it came out for like 1700 at the time with no tax included.

The quality on your 4k TV is really nice, but I think I'm old fashioned or maybe simple. I have a Philips TV, nothing big, HD, and cable. I think where you spend money on your movie buying, I spend on having cable. Lol. It's my one luxury. I like to rent movies through my voice command on my remote for 3.99 or luckily when they're free. I bought a DVD player a couple years ago solely because the local public library has an enormous movie collection for renting DVDs, movies, TV series, documentaries, they have brand new movies too. Never overlook your public library. I mentioned to you, yesterday, that on TV last night AMC was playing Stephen King flicks all night and today too and I watched Silver Bullet last night and it I wanted to mention it was TOTALLY unedited. That scene with the pregnant lady getting all scratched up and the girl's drunk dad making that crude comment about handicap people, it was all there. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid and I forgot about the great music they play when they show the werewolf creeping up on people. But my main point is that I appreciate AMC for being about the only channel that shows a whole movie!!! They didn't sensor any of the graphic scenes, they even showed the railroad worker at the beginning and his head flying and the bugs on the ground. Thanks for showing us your 4k because I actually had never even heard of this until I came to your channel. Again, I keep it simple. I like to imagine I'm still in the '90s. 😊

just remember, you are trading convienance for lack of quality, censored content, and payng for stuff you dont own and they can take from you at any minute! @@AVAPopCultureI was thinking more about this and I think a big part of why I like these things is I like the spontaneity and the temporary aspect. I think it makes me appreciate it more, knowing it's temporary (like renting a movie). Kinda like , the thrill of the moment. Lol. But you're right about the censoring stuff. That would be the main reason I would put big money into buying and investing in a great home movie system. I can't stand the censoring/editing things out. I would be so freaking picky about the first ten movies I bought too. And I'm an organizational freak too. I'd probably go nuts with it. You're also right about it all being taken away too, if you don't own it. This is one reason I'm amazed my library still has a DVD collection. I miss the video rental stores.
