Join us as we hop aboard the historic West Coast Wilderness Railway in Queenstown, Tasmania! This iconic train once carried copper from the mines and was abandoned for years before being beautifully restored. It’s now one of the top attractions in Tasmania’s west coast. In this video, we share our experience riding the railway, exploring stunning rainforests, dramatic gorges, and the rich history behind it all. But there’s one thing we’re left wondering-should we have upgraded our tickets? Watch to find out what we chose, what we loved about the journey, and what we’d do differently next time! We'd love to hear from you! Share your thoughts, ask questions, or tell us about your own Big Lap adventures in the comments below 🚐🤩
A Happy New Year Sandy, Tim, and Pablo. Wish you a prosperous year 2025! In spite of the weather, what the gorgeous experience you share with us! I had been on a Locomotive Xmas train here in US, but not quite fancy as you rode. The light fixture provides not too bright, not so dark, but just right. Wine! something grab from a charming shop. haha I could not figure out how to operate single engine train at first until your explain step by step. hahah Well done! Tell me about rain. K7S and I were in one of the tropical rain forest in Costa Rica..of course rain haha. We finally came home after months of evacuation from the natural disaster/flooding. I slept like a baby in my own bed. My elder in-laws headed back home. I have my own space and time....try to catch up...
@SandVan Happy New Year. I've loved following you over the last year and I'm really enjoying the big lap. Hope you are both well. We have snow on the ground and -4c here in Blighty. Peak District got about 6in of snow. Best place to be is down under. We are seriously thinking of buying an Elddis 2 berth this year.
Happy New Year's, Tim and Sandy! Hope you all had a great new years and much luck in the year to come! Also, thanks for sharing this adventure with us! Crazy how old school that train looks!
Thanks Guys, yes upgrading would have been a much better experience. After doing the Gold Class on The Rocky Mountaineer in Canada (due to my son previously working on it) which was amazing, I would definitely pay the extra and upgrade. Will definitely put this our list cheers.
We have done both the Queenstown journey and the journey from Strahan in the luxury carriage. Both ends are different, and both are amazing well worth doing
What a beautiful day you had. It reminded me how I’d imagine the orient express would be. How lovely. Great way to step into 2025 as it’s throwing it down with snow where we are lol
Thank you Roger 🤩🚐🚂🙏it was classy little train 🚂 wow would love a bit of snow here , are you ready for the country to shut down once it gets an inch deep 🥶😂
Thank you Tracie 🤩🙏🚐they’re meant to generate 400w each in ideal conditions 🤩but they’re never angled directly at the sun and rarely produce over 400w on a good day but they’re never angled do keep the battery well charged most days , it’s only when the weather is bad for lengthy periods ( more than a week) that we start to struggle 😳hope this helps 😊
