Tackle box is brilliant!
Isn’t it? I came up with that in college and it’s still works great!
The great thing about the "block" method of sewing is you get a sense of accomplishment from the smaller task coming to an end. I used to try and do everything from ironing the fabric to sewing seams in one go but i dont have the time or energy for that anymore. So just the ironing, just the pattern layout and fit adjustments, just the cutting - whatever step it is, its easy to complete and i dont feel frustrated that i cant do more. You have a great sewing room!
It’s the feeling of accomplishment with the little tasks that keep us sewing 😉
Another time saver is to use medium to light grey thread for almost all sewing - It blends so well with many colors - you would think it was the color of your fabric. Saves lots of time. Topstitching is about the only time you have to match the fabric.
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing ☺️
Great tips. I also use a rotary cutter to cut out my patterns. It saves time and it goes easy on my thumb joints. Thanks for sharing.
That’s a great tip!! I’ll have to try a
rotary cutter next time.
Love the tackle box idea! Thanks.
You’re welcome! It’s one of my best organizing tips 😂
Love the time cube idea!
It’s great! I use it for everything to stay on track 😂
Great reminders!
Thanks! Some days I need more reminding than others 😂
Great Video 👍📸
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
When I finish sewing for a session and still have a little time I wind up to 10 bobbins in colors I always need. This speeds up sewing - you just grab a bobbin and keep going - no need to interupt your flow on your project. Far less stress and irritation when you just reach for an already filled bobbin.
I’ve recently started winding 2-3 bobbins before I start sewing, with that same thought in mind. It’s not just about saving time, having a spare bobbin to pop in keeps my sewing rhythm going 😉
First time watching your channel, love it! I subscribed too. Tacklebox idea is great. I sew steps out of sequence. I will sew sleeve gathering, hem, etc part way thru sewing on the bodice. In other words, doing it my way. That way the garment gets completed faster when i do things separately.
Thanks for watching and subscribing Kathy! I agreed with sewing it the way that works best for you-SO much faster!
Great tips
Thanks Janell!
Since 2017 I have sewing in sleeves into garments on the flat like you do when sewing knit garments, as it is quicker and easier and the result is better.
I use Stitch Sisters zip sewing method to install zips into garments, as it the fastest method I have found that gives a professional result.
This year I have started Sian from Kittenish Behavior's method to sew bias binding to garments - which is using one or two anchor the bias binding to the garment and sew with no more pins needed for that seam.
I am also using less pins that I have previously to sew.
I do not sew toiles/muslins/mock ups, as I do not have time for extra unnecessary sewing🥴🤣. I measure up the pattern pieces before I cut the fabric against previous garments to ensure I have enough fabric in that pattern piece. This is a must for me, as the pattern pieces maybe too small.😊🤗
Thanks for all the tips Flower! I will check them out ❤️
Oh yes, I forgot I like triangle marking chalk and wash out blue pens. My stash covers 2 walls, embarrassing!
Mine stash would be at least that big if it weren’t spread out everywhere 🤣
How do you keep your cat away from sewing space???😅
Sometimes I have to kick her out of the room and shut the door. Eventually the meowing to come back in stops 😂
