    Thank you for putting this video out there! I cannot find my DR manual as it's well over 20 years old. I don't recall when I bought it so it's probably older than that. I've not done any maintenace on it but it still works. This will help me to as I have never checked the fluid level because I didn't know you could. I contacted DR and they could not help me at all. This is most helpful!

    Great video, straight forward, no time wasted. I have two questions: if hydraulic fluid should be added, it should go right into the hole I pulled the dip stick from? And, what’s the importance of closing the bleeder screw? What risks do I run by leaving it open when not running the splitter? Thanks.

      @TheFixitShed  5 днів тому +1

      Yes, add fluid in the dipstick hole. Hydrolic fluid, in general, is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture. you want to keep it sealed to prevent that, as absorbing moisture and lead to things like oxidation and corrosion.

      @ okay that’s a great answer, thanks. In the case that I might have allowed moisture into the hydraulic fluid, would replacing it be as easy as letting it drain from the dipstick hole and then refilling it?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  5 днів тому

      If you want to be thorough, you may want to drain it, fill it, run the splitter a few times to flush out the fluid in the piston, drain it, and then fill it again.

    You’re welcome. I really did like the video. I just added a foot pedal to mine because it it has a push button to keep it on and it’s hard for me to do that you know by myself so I have a foot pedal that I hooked up.

    My motor requires you hold down a green button on the left side to make the motor run. Otherwise, mine looks exactly like yours. I'm its second owner.
    When I push it, is it SUPPOSED to keep the engine running (maybe malfunctioning)? Or, do I have to rewire it to a standard switch?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  Рік тому

      interesting. You could test if the switch is defective. I don't know if holding the switch opens or closes the circuit, you can try both. If the switch can be disconnected, try it without the switch (open), and then put a jumper across the connectors to bypass the switch (closed). If one of those works, then the switch needs to be replaced. If not, then something else is your problem.

      Yours is the more common type the push button is an extra safety measure so you will have both hands towards the rear of the machine and out of the way. This one with a switch always on is unusual but I like it. Just wondering though if leaving it running all the time is creating extra heat and damaging the hydraulic pump or something??

      Its the newer safety system.go to harbor freight and buy the foot switch made for power tools.that way you work the motor with your foot and you have a hand to hold the wood

    I have one of these and it only moves half way and stops im trying to figure out why, I think that it has no pressure maybe? I found it in a old shed but it turns on just fine 🤷‍♂️

      Check and make sure it has enough hydraulic fluid in it.

      My splitter has the exact same switch. you have to hold it in in order for the pump to run. I assumed that DR did this as a safety feature so that both of your hands were occupied when you were splitting. it is a pain and I am considering replacing the switch

    I have the same splitter, 2nd owner. Slow leak, how much Lucas stop leak should I use along with hydraulic fluid?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  Рік тому +1

      I wouldn't use it. i would replace the o-ring, or whatever is leaking.

      That is unfortunate. Have you tried looking up the part number elsewhere? Sometimes you can find stuff from aftermarket suppliers or ebay even.
