It think it’s supposed to be more a joke how much of Italian culture from the birth of the Roman empire onwards is very much taken and in some ways improved from previously existing concepts that were invented by the Greeks. There is a huge joke in the anthropology community that Rome and by extension Italy is literally just copy and pasted Greek culture with later improvements.
