@@kzdom115 I just bought mine recently, and when it came to put new line, I was trying to find it in the manual and if course didn't find it. I'm newbie at gas trimmers but with your help im really liking it.
Thank you so much. Excellent video. You explained it so well. I just got a Troy Bilt gas string trimmer and I could not understand how to change the string. The instructions in the manual said one thing but when I actually tried to open the bump head it would not open so I was confused. I thought I was doing something wrong. But now you explained that it is hard to open (that is so true) and that a wrench needs to be used. Thank you so much because I was afraid to damage the bump head or something like that.
Thank ya kindly!! I picked up one of them there little troybuilts. Man I tell ye. Fir bein' a two cycle, that there string trimmer's got itself some pep!! Ain't no weed stop it.
I was really hard on it during my first impressions video, but I really have grown to like it for small stuff. Almost all of the issues I have had with it were due to my own stupidity.
Now, how about coming & weed-eating my yard😁 No, but really, thank you so much for explaining this. My grandson somehow let the line get so short that it isn’t coming out of either hole😩There is plenty of string left, but I guess I will have to take it apart & thread the string back through the holes.🤦♀️
I have the same model weed eater, but my bump cap has reverse threads...so keep an eye out for that possibility. Also, my bump cap and string spool is red in color.
For the price of them, I wouldn't be surprised if they just used whatever they had when throwing them together. I ended up replacing the head with a gator head with nylon blades.
Dude you are the Real MVP I was Turning my counterClockwise for 30 mins Then I read your comment 1 easy turn 2 the Right loosened everything up Thx Man
These are pretty cheap units. Mine is for sure normal threaded, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the heads are some kind of bargain bin special type of thing.
I just used enough till it was full. After a few years of use it wore out and wouldn't hold string anymore. I swapped the head out for a universal gator head this season.
It can be super finicky about the type of string used. My head failed after 3 years and would not hold string anymore, it would all fly out when reved up. I ended up installing a gator head I got from Atwood's for around $10. It is a super easy swap and well worth it in my opinion.
Ha , I bought one a couple of weeks ago just went to put new string on and it was ridiculous how tight that head was on . A pipe wrench and a person holding it steady and it came off . I cussed it like a dog .
@@gregmichael9925 Mine won't come off. I've had it for five or six years and it still runs fine. I just haven't used it in around two years because I can't remove the spool.... still starts and runs awesome!
I hope you were able to get it off. I saw a comment that said theirs was reverse threaded. I wouldn't be surprised if they used multiple styles of heads on these cheap trimmers.
Thanks, as an engineer, I've been trying for like an hour to jam it in...
I genuinely laughed out loud at this comment. I did the same thing when I first got it. I am glad the video was helpful.
I know this is two years old but it's still helping us folks out here!! Thank you 👍
Thank you for the kind words. I've used and abused this little trimmer and it is still going strong.

Nice video. Now I know what to do when I have to replace the string.
Glad it helped
@@kzdom115 I just bought one of these a few days ago. So of course I found your vids.
Thank you!!!! By far the best video of all I found.
Glad it was helpful.

That you for the kind words. I'm glad the video was helpful.
Just turn it right. Not left.
I just got this model trimmer and I’m super inexperienced with trimmers so I appreciate this tutorial on changing the ropes on it
Awesome, I'm glad to hear it was helpful!
Thanks for the video man.. I'd like to think of myself as mechanically inclined but this weed eater was a pain
1:40 is what I needed and u had it thank you sir 😊

Used this today. Couldnt figure it out. Felt like an idiot. Didnt want to break the bottom off by using a wrench. Turns out i needed one!
Haha glad it was helpful. I have used the video as a reference myself several times this year. 😂
I was afraid go use the pliers to open it up. Thanks for this video

Haha, I have found that if you don't quite get them lined up right or wind too much string on it it get stuck. Good luck
Good step by step process guide. I could handle the easy task with your help😊😆
I'm glad it helped you out, thank you for the kind words.
Hey! Do uchave a video on how too replace the pull cord too start it!?!?! Please!!!! Can't seem too figure it out n ur videos have helped alot

@@brianadams7410 🤣 I'm glad to hear it.
Wow!! Awesome video!! Thanks a lot dude!!
Thank you, I hope you found it helpful.
Have you done a video on changing the whole trimmer head to a Speedload head?
I have not. I honestly don't know if it is possible with this trimmer. It isn't very "feature packed".
Thank you. My cap was just stuck like yours was.
Awesome, I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank u Sir. For the video!
You are welcome, I hope it was helpful.
Thanks now I feel like I can do it my own 👍

Got me with the 'why is this water pump still here'
🤣That poor bench. I cringe a little every time I see how trashed it was. I'm getting a bit better at keeping it somewhat organized these days.
Hey guys not sure if all new models are this way but my threads are for sure left handed so turning right loosened mine
Dude you are the Real MVP I was Turning my counterClockwise for 30 mins

Same here, and supposedly I have the same model that he has. And the owner's manual says the opposite. Not helpful.
These are pretty cheap units. Mine is for sure normal threaded, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the heads are some kind of bargain bin special type of thing.
How long should the strings be?
A few inches, if you leave them too long, I believe the guard has a metal piece on it that will cut them.
How much line do you use? 4 feet?
I just used enough till it was full. After a few years of use it wore out and wouldn't hold string anymore. I swapped the head out for a universal gator head this season.
first step.... clear off your work bench, lol. Just kidding. Great video
It is a neverending battle
Also, turn it to the right to twist off
I'm sure these are a bargain bin parts build, but mine is most definitely standard thread.
😊
😁
My string doesnt feed after initial pieces break off
