    Honestly, I have NEVER understood people saying Chandler didn't deserve that title shot. He was a 3x Bellator world champion who had finished two former UFC lightweight champions. He had just demolished a guy right outside the top 5 who had fought incredibly evenly with Poirier. Poirier wanted the Conor trilogy, Gaethje had just fought for the title and been finished, Tony had just been dominated by Oliveira. The UFC is filled with these kinds of windows of opportunity. Chandler took it and put on a damn good show against Oliveira, as good as Gaethje or Poirier, which says something even if he lost.

    • @timothyscibor9504
      @timothyscibor9504 11 місяців тому +4

      ye literally as he was saying it i was having flashbacks to that exact card in texas.... Tony just lost to beniel in a 3 round decision and kinda made everyone sad. And we had all been used to seeing dominant chain wrestling and ground and pound.
      it was without a doubt, no questions asked the best match up for the lightweight title that coulda have possible happened considering everything you just said. he absolutely did deserve the title shot as the 4th ranked contender and former champion. Especially if your current champ retires... and the #1 and #2 either just fought for the belt or lost their last fight.
      edit to say: Mcgregor had just dropped out of the rankings after the second poirier lost. Had conor not lost that fight.... its arguable they would have skipped over chandler who was ranked 5 at the time. I also think Rafael Dos anjos lost to Rafael Fiziev around this time... making Chandler the ranked 4 contender... because at the time Islam was ranked 6. So ufc 262 happened before Islam beat bobby green for his title shot. and by that time Charles had beat Poirier and gaethje back to back and lost the belt to the scale. It is arguable also that the next title shot eliminator would have to be a rematch or an out of top 5 ranked opponent. Cause they all fought each other after chandler Knocked out tony

      @@reallymakesyouthink but he literally set up and stepped up and took the opportunity for the #3 and #4 to fight for the title after the champion vacated the belt. It is not chandlers problem that Dustin didnt want to fight for the belt and Justin sat out and didnt fight again after he lost his title fight.
      he also made it possible for the rightful person to have the belt at the time. Charles' title run is most entertaining ive ever seen in my 6 years of MMA watching and several decades of film watching and its because he fought chandler. He deserved the shot or your invalidating the work of another man and organization

    Everyone has an opinion and it’s so easy for people to be the armchair quarterback. The fact is your style of fighting is extremely successful because very few people can withstand the onslaught you bring inside the cage. Beyond that the excitement you bring wins the masses and that opens up opportunities even without the belt. I think you’re taking the right approach in terms of not letting the naysayers words land. It’s just noise and you are doing what 99.9% of what other professional fighters could never do, let alone what the average armchair critic could do in their best dreams.

    Ur one of my top fav fighters to watch bro. Besides the obvious fact that your rampage Jackson style of explosive bursts is second to none. Also I’ve noticed you literally will never show an ounce of fear. Even when ur caught and supriesed, u never ever look nervous or scared. It’s badass. Lastly bro it sucks your win lose ratio in ufc is close, but at same time It makes your fights that much more exciting! Ur always fighting one of the top 5 guys in the world, and the fact we knew it could go either way is pretty awesome makes for the best suspense and keeps us on the edge of our seat.
    You may not leave the sport with the legacy or a khabib or oliveria. But the fact is, it’s your fights that i will reminisce on. If U asked me about where I was or what I was feeling during a khabib fight I couldn’t tell you anything, other then everyone watching knew he was gonna win. Now if u ask me about chandler vs gaethje I’d tell you who I was with, what bar we were at, how hot the waitress was and what a fun night it was.
    There’s just a different feeling watching guys like yourself and gaethje. Best of luck bro I hope u have many more fights in the ufc. Cuz win or lose, the FANS are winning every time!

There have been so many "good record fighters" who have brought zero feeling to people's viewing experience. They're even resented for it. This is crazy man! I have all this fresh in my mind like a favorite TV Show.. I remember it was quite rocky trying to get each guy to bite. I remember there being rumors to fight Gaethje earlier.. I remember Tony and Dustin being the first guys to say No to early offers. Dan is a real one, he basically took the fight and risked his ranking against an unranked beast... like Gilbert Burns did in his division. I remember early on Bussin with the Boys the question was, Long Term who’d you rather fight Conor or Khabib? lol ...The Haters always wanna bring up Fight IQ, how about “Career IQ”.. the things you did in the time you had in the UFC is not normal... Definitely Hard Work, Chess Moves, Being a Good Person, embracing the Fans, etc.. A simple Win/Loss record doesn’t measure the intangibles. And arguably, each of your Losses in the UFC could’ve very easily been Wins. If you ask me, since joining the UFC, this whole stint so far has been one Single Win. Who else do you know on the Planet could have this type of Second Career, it’s unheard of. A Thrilling Journey it’s been so far & still goin, See You At The Top!🙌🏻☄️

    Hey Chandler you are entertaining af, you go in there and fight in a way that’s risk/reward.
    Your style is fan favorite and I do believe you will be champion if you wrestle more 💯
