I fitted PoweRage (same thing as the Enfield Precision) shorties to mine and found it too loud even with the baffles in. The solution was to add about 3" of proprietary baffle tube to each baffle using JB Weld. Works fine and still sounds good.
For comparison it would be nice to have a profile shot of 1:The OEM pipes 2: The Hitchcock's regular pipes and 3: The shorties. My interest in these pipes is primarily clearance for luggage.
I picked up these Enfield Precision shorty pipes about a month ago, watched the video you had up for fitting the longer EP pipes to get these on at the time (fitting procedure is exactly the same as you've shown). Going from OEM to these pipes (I also fitted the performance air filter when putting the pipes on) put a massive smile on my face. Felt like I was riding a different bike altogether. Thanks for the content Stu!
They sound great! I’ve realized watching all you UK Enfield owners that we are very lucky in the US. I even moved to a state that hast stricter regulations and emissions controls, but there are almost no laws regarding how I modify my Interceptor, and it’s completely exempt from emissions regulations for as long as the bike exists. Bless you guys out in Europe!
The 5 day disclaimer for the MOT is just that, mine was online within the hour. Pipes look fab, and sounded great on the driveway, look forward to the road test :)
I have a pair of AEW 103 exhausts in polished stainless steel on my Interceptor. More than the sound, it is the shape and size that won me over. They are about the same size as these but with a shorter reverse cone and look properly proportionate. The mirror polish makes them look OEM and not clash with the chrome fuel tank. EDIT: Forgot to add the reason for posting this comment. My observations on my exhausts are similar to yours for these new ones so I can relate.
Nice one, Stu. I have found that any modification on the Interceptor 650 I have done so far is quite straight forward - the more seasoned tinkerers would get by without even glancing on instruction sheets (but it is a good habit to glance them over anyway - just in case). I was never a fan of those big up swept pipes on the bike to begin with , along with some other features that I don't find aesthetically pleasing, but the bike is a great platform to make it your own at relative low costs. I opted for a pair of AEW 201's - basically old fashioned pea shooters that due to the angled flange straighten the lines out and tuck them a bit closer in, to be more reminiscent of the old Constellation. It does give the bike a more classic look and it did come with a removable baffles - but I kept them in as I found the bike to be sounding a bit more pleasing that way. The only consideration for these AEW 201's is that they do get in the way when you need to remove the rear wheel, but a work around it to pop off the rear shocks from their top mounting so the swing arm can drop a bit lower, making it possible to remove the rear spindle. I tend to do that anyway as it gives a bit more clearance to move the rear wheel out of position.
Thank you for consistently making great content. I'm getting my endorsement in the U.S. next week. I came across Royal Enfield in my search for reliable and affordable beginner bikes, and your videos have helped me a lot in making the decision to get a classic 350
I bought a set of old-fashioned looking horizontal bottle mufflers for my INT 650 to even more remind me of my beloved 1965 Triumph 650. My new mufflers do everything that you mentioned in your video. I too have the baffles left in because they allow just the right amount of "growl" without being too loud. Love that sound and now the exhaust note tells me when to shift without looking at the tach. My only regret is that I didn't know that the mufflers could be had in polished stainless steel. The chrome plating on mine must be one atom thick because I have to keep polishing them or the rust shows. Sound, performance, weight, cargo space, much cooler to the touch and looks, yours or mine are worthwhile changes. By the way, maybe it's just the sound, but I seem to have better low end torque. To let my ECU adjust to the new gas flow parameters, I pointed the bike upwind, put it on its stand and let it idle for 15 minutes while checking my oil temperature gauge (it never got over 70C).
Hi Stu, I've had these Shorty's fitting on my Int for the last couple of months now. They are loud and with the baffles out, they are obnoxious 😉. I love them.
Nice video, I would have liked to see the new muffler fitted one side, with the original fitted the other to get a comparison. Anyway that’s just me. They sound much better than the OEM version 👍
Maybe I’m the only Interceptor owner that likes the standard pipes. When I had a minor scrape on the right side recently I bought a replacement standard replacement on eBay.
I like the standard pipes too, I won't be changing mine until they rot out or look unsightly, would of been nice if they were stainless though, but at the price point of the bike I can't complain to much.
Thanks Stu, I have ordered mine and are in Auckland already after 2 days! Due to get out of NZ Customs who will charge me with 15% GST (VAT) before releasing them I'm sure! The K&N filter is fitted and made a difference in itself. Looking forward to the roarty sounds and more fun on the road :) Thanks again!
I recently fitted a full Enfield Precision system to a GT 650,front system and silencers plus a DNA air filter kit and FuelX 10 map plug in.With all this set at map 7 the thing is a completely new bike,it's now drastically under geared.
Good morning Stu. Interesting video. I don’t mind the look and sound of the OEM pipes. As you mentioned though, they do get extremely hot. Not so much a problem for me when riding even with my panniers fitted. The biggest problem is putting the bike away. My ground anchor is by the rear wheel which means that I have to wait an hour before I can fit the security chain. When you do the follow up video, can you hold an OEM silencer up against the new one to show the size comparison?
They look very similar to the V&H Chrome stainless silencers I fitted to my speed twin, apart from the top mount being welded to the silencer. Be good to hear what they sound like on a run, they certainly improve the look of the bike, very nice.
This is a really simple mod and adds to both the sound and looks of the bike, to me a good sounding bike adds to the enjoyment and when riding I cant really hear the standard exhaust. The polished look is much better than the brushed as it matches the exhaust pipes. I hope they look to do some silencers in the black finish to match the new Interceptor and Continentals.
Nice. Balances the look aesthetically both geometrically and finish-wise 👌. Quick tip. As usual, remove any finger marks with a little isopropyl alcohol before first starting 👍
Ordered them, fitted them. Sound is fantastic! Looks are also awesome (those standard chimneys are way to big!). Not really content with the polishing though, the high gloss is somewhat tainted by polish scratches. Gonna contact Hitchcoks about it, and or see what I can polish out myself. Very happy with these shorties overall!
I really like the brushed steel finish, so I went with the full swap of the headers as well from Hitchcok. Rarely use panniers on my GT so no complains, but these would have been interesting at the time. Would like to know how much louder than the longer set this could be.
Agree that the shorter pipes look better, however I am not a fan of those up swept pipes on the R.E. This was one of the reasons (along with others) that I choose the Kawasaki W800 over the R.E.. I might add that both of my Guzzi California bikes have a very slight up swept pipe system which I can get along with. Might be an age thing as when I was younger I liked the up swept pipes, but at 72y.y. it has lost it's allure. Have a beautiful day!! Illinois, USA
Hi Stu, great video as usual .Any plans to test a full 2 into 1 stainless system in the future . Less weight and better chain access would be very interesting too. Regards Kev
I installed these last night. Ordered them Thursday morning and had them 24 hours later. I'm in the US! Hitchcocks is amazing. I had an unusual experience installing these though. The stock silencers were sealed with some kind of fiberglass mesh and foil tape that was very hard to get off. I think Royal Enfield usually uses a rubber gasket? Some factory improv I guess.
I had a Enfield intersepter from2019 and the only thing i changed is the oil .. i get about 105 mph but don't really go above 70 its a good bike love every time i go out on it its even got the factory fitted tyres but need changing soon . I like my Enfield as it is But will say i do like to see other bike been modified
Those polished silencers blend in much better than the brushed ones, but boy they aren't cheap! Being a skinflint, four years ago I fitted chrome universal silencers of a similar length & profile as your "shorties" for £70 the pair. "They'll be rusted in no time", they said - but with the Fillingham prep-clean-protect regime, they're still nice & shiny. I did add the optional baffles later, though.
Now only if this a W800 video would this had been worth watching. 😂 I guess I watched it because I always enjoyed watching your videos on this old girl.... she's only three or four years old, but it's orange! Who doesn't love that color!?
Hello Stuart, love your videos and narration - specially those rides on the beautiful roads with sweet exhaust note. On the right side of the bike, are those accessory footrest? Do they move the position slightly ahead? I am planning to get a used interceptor as project bike and looking for something to move both footrest ahead a bit.
Sounds great and looks better with the chrome down pipes.Noticed what looks like a paddock stand but the bike has a centre stand is it still worth having a paddock stand bobbin ?

Have to agree on the ascetics of the shorter pipes. I the Powerage units that I put on my 650. The list of reasons could run to 10. I packed my oems away in case I want to take my back to original.
It would have been useful to see side shot comparisons of the different pipes so we could see the difference. And perhaps a mention of the weight differences?
Stuart! I really love your videos! Thanks a lot for sharing. I have a 2023 Continental gt650 and I've just bought theese Enfield Precision shorty silencers (I was waiting for the re-stock since February!), and I'm going to install them next week. I also bought the DNA air filter, so I'm changing both things... I just want to ask: Should I do both upgrades (pipes & filter) at the same time? Or is it preferable to do one change at a time so the ECU adjusts properly? Thanks again! Greetings from México!
...Im really not a fan of 'classic' motorcycles, but I do love your presentation style and fettling. Has that interceptor ever been on the road? its spotless!
Look and sound great so far. Would you also recommend to wipe your fingerprints clean from the exhaust before heating it up, or is it not needed since they don't get too hot to burn in prints? Thanks
If you do this when the bike new it can be impressive refitting when coming to sell. You then can offer the replacements as a sweetner. I went to see a Honda 500 with a nasty set of pipes. Semi homemade. They had been a genuine set !
Just came here watching the older video about air filter change. I recently bought a K&N air filter with stage 2 filter plate and have also installed slipon AEW exhaust. Did the 15 min idle trick too. But i somewhere heard due to these mods I need to also do maybe a fuel piggy map to give the bike additional fuel for the mods done otherwise there is loss of power. Please suggest
Personally, I think they sound better with the baffles out. The bike is not obnoxiously loud. I have to brag. I just bought a 2014 continental GT with less than 500 miles on it. It has a silencer, air filter and Power commander V.
Hi Stuart, I don't know if you've tried the PoweRage Exhausts available here for around US$ 212. They sound exactly like these and the looks too are identical, which leads me to suspect that these too are made by PoweRage. Do you have any idea ? I have bought the PoweRage and am very happy with their performance.
Hi brilliant I keep watching and enjoying your channel as far as the MOT is concerned I’m I mot tester so when I login to the DVLA to carry out a MOT I am then on the Dvla , when I log in again to add the results the pass are fail are then on the website and can be viewed by you . The DVLA website has been updated at this time ( so no waiting) the only problem that can happen is if the DVLA website goes down then we can’t update the sight until the system comes back on line hope this helps
Just going by the text on the site. I know when I got the Mule MOT done it was a couple of days before it registered. Maybe down to the vigilance of the test station?
@@stuartfillingham Hi mate s i said to do a mot we first have to login to the dvla database it will then print out the check list for that vehicle when we finish the test we log back in and put in the results , it is then registered. I have in the past taxed a motorcycle with in 30 minutes of completing the test ( we can also make some changes like colour and even the class ie motorcycles class 1 and 2 trikes class 3 cars class 4 ) please keep up your great work much appreciated Kev
I’ve got a pair of Powerage silencers fitted to my Interceptor. They are identical to your pipes, stainless steel, same fitting, join cover, decibel reducer and electro etched name. 🤔Makes me wonder if these are manufactured by one company and the name added the suit the customer and the price 😏. Two thirds the price from India. Note, Hitchcocks don’t state that they are made in the uk.
My sentiments exactly Sir. I, too, have the PoweRage polished exhaust installed on my INT 650. They appear to be identical in every way to the Enfield Precision units. Slimmer in size, run much cooler, a more authentic '60's British twin exhaust note, IMO, and weigh 8.95 pounds (4.06 Kg) less than OEM for the pair. I have not removed the dB reducers. Always good to see Stuart feature his Interceptor.
Hi Stuart I have recently purchased a new interceptor is it legal to remove the OE silencers with cat to the “shorties” without cat and would it effect the warranty. Thanks
I would greatly expect that I wouldn't be compliant without the catalytic converters, so any inspection or resale would require reinstalling the original mufflers and then allow the ECU to reset itself. I have mine packed safely away for the future.
Mine just passed its MOT with S&S pipes on it ! And if anything they are growlier than the Enfield Precision , this was at a strict MOT station too ! .....I did get a bollocking for my small number plate though ! 😅
@@themoog3889 That's what I get for just guessing and making assumptions. Here in California, smog inspections are pretty strict and more so because of how we got burned and lied to by the VW company and its engineers during their diesel scam. I've never had to bring a motorcycle in for a smog check, but I'll make another assumption and guess that we will in the future. Here we don't care so much about the safety of the vehicles and don't inspect for that, but they do make a big deal about a vehicle's pollution output.
@@themoog3889 some of the S&S pipes have cats in them. Need a bit more detail about what model you've got fitted before we could infer that a de-cat pipe remains Euro 5.
@@RichLee_laughingblade Not sure tbh , they did say Race Only until I had that dressed off ! Not sure emissions are tested during an MOT ?? Our bikes are taxed on CC groups unlike cars !
Guess the neighbours are thinking ...He's 'fiddling' with that Bike again... The shorty doesn't look so 'poky outy' like the originals. I've always thought why didn't Enfield mould ..(Weld)..a kink in the silencer rather like a Laverda to maintain a better line...probably financial constraints... Has given the Bike a nice Growl without being excessively loud...
I have Stratos Performance headers and AEW 101 cans and for me that is a perfect combination, but I will say those cans sound nice and they do look the part.........similar to AEW lol.
I am happy with the sound of the stock ones but you are absolutely right about the excess heat part. Sad that we can't get these at decent price in India, the exhaust makers here somehow end up making silencers too loud for my liking.
These are Enfield Precision exhausts but their long and short versions look so much like Powerage equivalents, don't they. Even the mounting points and heat shields look the same. In the past, Hitchcocks used to get some parts made in India and then refine them in the UK. I am not sure if that is the case now. We can only guess.
My 2021 125cc bike has a cataylitic converter and they made it soo hard to change the stock one to a (black widow) but it is possible. I feel they are going to make it impossible for you to modify anything on the bike in the future.
Just to be clear, the U.K. is apparently first world ? But it takes days for MOT to be uploaded, they only take paper copies of insurance? Sound like the dark ages Stu.
You should be able to get it taxed straight away. I just had my Ducati Panigale V2 MOT'd after the tax had run out. I came home and taxed it on the very same night. 👍
They do you nice but I can't tell from the angle you shot the video from how much shorter they are and I don’t believe you mentioned it either. Something for the next video then 🙂
No, each time turning a good, beautiful, inexpensive bike into a FANTASTIC, MORE beautiful, slightly less inexpensive bike.😁. For all the tweaks, farkles, upgrades and customisations you do on an Interceptor, it'll still end up being 2/3rds the price of any new bog-standard Triumph!
G’day uncle Stu. Another informative & very well produced video as always. Probably a stupid question However I am wondering if you are aware of these with a black finish available now or possibly in the future? I have the 120 anniversary model of both the interceptor & G.T.Continental & although I don’t want to play with changing things on these special models, I feel this would be a great option for me to use on these bikes, keeping the originals for future use, especially if I do decide to move these bikes on sometime. Thanks for all you do on your channel. It is appreciated.
I have the same question and the same 120th Anniversary Interceptor, is black going to be available soon? The only one that I can find that is close it the AEW TE103.

Hello, how long are the Enfield Precision in short version ? ✌
Sounds great.
Thanks
How in so many years your bike engine cases is still shining ?? How ? Please suggest some products.
Does the bike remain Euro-5 compliant? Will be interesting to see if it passes the MOT with those pipes on.
Nice one Stu !
Anyone know why the back wheel turn's when the bikes reved? Always wondered.
I have Stratos Performance headers and AEW 101 cans and for me that is a perfect combination, but I will say those cans sound nice and they do look the part.........similar to AEW lol.
Do you plan to change the downpipes ?
Not sure yet!
@@stuartfillingham gets rid of more weight , the catalytic converters in the pipes and those bloody ugly pretend fins !
Hi Stuart is this an insurance notification.
I am happy with the sound of the stock ones but you are absolutely right about the excess heat part. Sad that we can't get these at decent price in India, the exhaust makers here somehow end up making silencers too loud for my liking.
Nice pipes!
Stu, are these the PowerAge slipons with another brand name? Made in India?
These are Enfield Precision exhausts but their long and short versions look so much like Powerage equivalents, don't they. Even the mounting points and heat shields look the same. In the past, Hitchcocks used to get some parts made in India and then refine them in the UK. I am not sure if that is the case now. We can only guess.
My 2021 125cc bike has a cataylitic converter and they made it soo hard to change the stock one to a (black widow) but it is possible.
I feel they are going to make it impossible for you to modify anything on the bike in the future.
Sir which one is louder? Shorter or longer.
Hello Stuart, umm these shorty slip on pipes blend in a bit better and don't scream 'aftermarket parts'
Nice
They sound good, hmmm, just hope they aren’t too loud
Would rather the 2 in 1 kit
Looks better. 1990 [Nick J]
What is mot?
Why doesn’t some company make some strait pipe pea shooter type exhausts for this bike…? Problem solved for saddlebags then.
They do. AEW, Enfield Precision from Hitcocks etc.
Online I got my bike taxed in hours from passing the MOT
👍❤️🙏
They do you nice but I can't tell from the angle you shot the video from how much shorter they are and I don’t believe you mentioned it either. Something for the next video then 🙂
Too bad its out of stock still October ;(
Isn't it nice that they make it so hard for you to pay your taxes. That's right You got to work for it
Each time turning a ?beautiful inexpensive bike into a expensive bike ?.
If you dont like customization videos. Dont watch them!
No, each time turning a good, beautiful, inexpensive bike into a FANTASTIC, MORE beautiful, slightly less inexpensive bike.😁. For all the tweaks, farkles, upgrades and customisations you do on an Interceptor, it'll still end up being 2/3rds the price of any new bog-standard Triumph!
can woman ride this ?
Of course.
Too upswept
Check to see if you like the Leo Vince black pipes.
@@rrandypt8933 Thanks mate, I haven’t heard of these. I will check them out. Have you had any experience with them?
