    I saw on a video that you can connect the gamer pro control deck to a ALU 1.1 version. Now that I see that you were able to add the button hole spinner, I will be able to replace the original control deck with the gamer pro and not miss my spinner.

    wow this is perfect for a soft modded simpsons cab... I already added the 12 in 1 interface board to it so I can use the existing trackball in mame and in the stock game. How did you install it? How are the GRS TOS Switchable 4-to-8-way Restrictor Gate and GRS USB Button Hole Spinner powered? How do you supply power to them? I have the Legends Gamer Mini hooked to my TV and not in a Arcade AtGames Cabinet so I don't want to have to plug it in to the Core Puck or a 12 volt AC Adapter to power it. I don't want to have the power cable to tie me down, I prefer to go wireless since this is the ages of wireless controllers.

    Thanks for the video. I am ordering the gamer pro over legend ultimate for space reasons and really lament not having the spinners. Can I build the GRS spinner in it's own small box with the 2 buttons and use that by plugging into the Core USB?

    • @GlenBaisley
      @GlenBaisley  Рік тому

      The GRS spinner needs to be connected via USB to the Core in order for it to work. Also, only the GRS V1 spinner will work. The V2 spinners are too sensitive. They are no longer sold so you may have to hunt them down. It's my understanding that all Amazon stock is now V2. And, V2 is only sold through thunderstickstudio.com. V2 will work on the lowest setting but is still overly sensitive. It's not the fault of the GRS product. It's just the way it works on the AtGames products.

    Question for you: I'm looking to do this same mod to my Legends Gamer Pro and I just want to make sure I understand how you wired this for power and connectivity with the USB hub. If I plug the spinner, restrictor control board, and the stick itself into a non-powered hub and then plug the hub into the core unit itself, it will draw enough power to run the restrictor gates and also connect the stick and the spinner to the core? Seems like that's what you're saying, I just want to make sure before I pull the trigger!

    • @GlenBaisley
      @GlenBaisley  2 роки тому

      I added a sabrent non-powered hub inside the gamer prol. I have a cable coming out of the USB port on the back of the control panel fed inside the deck to the hub that I connected the spinner and the restrictor gate board to. Then that hub is connected to the core with a detachable USB cable. I have seen some issues where you may need to have a powered hub connected to your core. I have no trouble plugging the cable directly into the core that came with my gamer pro but for some reason it does not work without a powered hub connected to my mini gamer core. I don't know if there is some variation in the cores but it does seem that the core that came with my mini gamer is putting out less power via the USB port. But if you do use a powered hub on any core it will definitely work.

      @@GlenBaisley I'm still a little fuzzy about why the interior Sabrent USB hub is connected to the built-in USB port on the back of the Gamer Pro. It sounds like: Everything is connected to/powered by the puck through the connection between the puck and the USB hub. The hub serves as conduit that allows the Spinner to communicate with the Puck (Spinner USB to USB hub, then USB hub to Puck USB); the hub serves as a conduit that allows Gamer Pro's 2 joysticks, trackball, and 20 buttons to communicate with the Puck (Gamer Pro built-in USB connection in the back to USB hub, then USB hub to Puck USB); and finally, the hub serves as a conduit for powering the Gate Switch (Gate Switch PCB USB to USB hub, then USB hub to Puck USB). At 3:32 text pops up about 1UP Arcade cabinets and PCs it says something about not having to do any drilling, what exactly does this mean and where can I find more info on this? I ask because this can also be done with AtGames Systems by using a second 2 in 1 button either from this GRS TOS Switchable 4-to-8-way Restrictor Gate kit or from another manufacture of some kind of 2 in 1 button.

    • @GlenBaisley

    I assume you can add a GRS USB Button Hole Spinner to a Legends Gamer Mini since it's the Gamer Pro that is 1 player only and has no Trackball?

      @GlenBaisley  2 роки тому

      I could not get the Core that comes with it to work with a spinner. I believe the firmware that is in the Gamer Mini Core does not support a trackball therefore you can't use a spinner with it. I don't have the ALU Mini but I'm assuming it's the same issue with that as well. I will be testing it with a Core Max once I get one.

  • @dallase1

    Is there anyway to get just the 2 in 1 Push Button or is there another brand of button that is the same size as the Button Hole on the Legends Series systems and where do you get the adapter wires that allow you to hook up just the button to the wires that attach to the wire that the original buttons attached to? I don't want buy a second Servo Motor just to get a second 2 in1 Button I'll use as the Home/Player 1 start buttons. If I don't have to I don't want to be cutting holes in my Gamer Mini so I'll put the first 2 in 1 button that controls the Servo Motor where the Home button is and use a second 2 in 1 button as the Home Button and Player 1 button so I can keep the rewind Button easy to hit during game play.

    I have installed everything following your recommendations - thanks for posting this video! However, I'm have issues with the spinner being recognized. As you describe, the spinner is connected to the USB hub I have installed inside the control box. The Hub is connect to the Mini USB jackon the puck (the USB hub I is powered, just to be "safe"). However, I can't determine where/how to configure the Spinner for games. You show it being recognized as a trackball in the diagnostic software - where is this app found? I can't seem to locate the diagnostic in the various setup apps included with the Gamer Pro. The controller doesn't seem to automatically recognize the spinner, and I don't see it when I go into button mapping. It's as if nothing as been added. But otherwise, everything works as it should - the buttons, joysticks, trackball, and the flash drive I added.

    • @GlenBaisley
      @GlenBaisley  2 роки тому +1

      There is nothing to map. You can go into Settings and choose Health Check and then the Trackball Test to confirm it is working. When you rotate the spinner you should see the red dot move left and right. When you roll the trackball the dot will move all over the screen. It sounds like something might not be wired correctly. You want to make sure that the USB port on the back of the Gamer Pro has a cable feeding back into the control deck to the USB hub. I used the USB cable that the Core came with. The gate changer's Arduino board and GRS spinner will also plug into the hub inside the control deck. Then the hub's USB cable feeds out the back of the control deck through the same hole that the other USB cable feeds into. I then connected a female-to-male USB cable to the hub's USB cable coming out of the back which connects to a powered or passive hub on the other end. That hub is plugged into the Core.

    • @privacyplease8057
      @privacyplease8057 2 роки тому +1

      @@GlenBaisley Thanks. Everything is working - maybe the "Health Check" did something or maybe a cable was simply loose. So now the hurdle is sensitivity... while some of the five in-game settings (Very Low to Very High) work for some of the games, the lowest setting is still too sensitive for other games. I guess I'll have to live with it. It is a great piece of hardware, though!

    It looks like it just changes the angle of the 4-way restrictor and not offer a true 8-way restrictor. Am I missing something? In other words, when you switch to the 8-way, it looks like it limits the movement up, down, left, and right.

    • @GlenBaisley
      @GlenBaisley  3 роки тому

      It is switching between a four-way gate and an eight-way square gate. Eight way is more commonly used in Japanese arcades, particularly with fighting games, but you will get eight-way movement.

    • @BurgerStefan
      @BurgerStefan 3 роки тому +5

      No it doesn't. Dont confuse an 8 way restrictor with an octogonal gate. Both allow to trigger left/right up/down and all diagonals. Octogonal can be benefitial within games that require fast circular movements of the joystick as the octogonal shape prevents the edges of the square where the movement could accidentialy get caught by the square shapes edges. But as explained before, both, square and octogonal allow for triggering of all 8 directions (while diamond for 4-way guides the joystick shaft reliably between up/down/left/right while preventing diagonals).

    The problem with this is it requires physical modification to the device requiring special tools that most people don't have and most people don't have the skill to cut holes in their device and run power cables. Also this product is expensive. Why not just provide a link to where one can buy Square Restrictor Gates so they can buy them and save money since a little piece of plastic is way cheaper than some thing with a motor in it that requires a much more complicated process to install? I've seen some Restrictor Gates that can switch between 4 way and 8 way by rotating a plastic center piece.You don't provide a link to how to install the Switchable 4-to-8-way Restrictor Gate and GRS USB Button Hole Spinner.

    • @GlenBaisley
      @GlenBaisley  2 роки тому

      It's not very expensive at all. A single unit is only $35, almost half the cost of a Mag-Stik-Plus that requires you to replace your joystick and doesn't have a very good throw distance. The GRS device can support up to 4 sticks and work with virtually any stick out there. I am not handy at all and never did a mod before this. Most people have a drill laying around and the bit is like $25. It's actually a pretty easy installation. Being able to switch between 4 and 8 way on the fly is way more convenient and easy than swapping out plastic gates every time you want to change your control type. This is not for everyone but for those want the best experience, it's totally worth it. Instructions for hole size and installation for the GRS products come with the products so I didn't show that here. I only provided an overview of the wiring for my particular mod in the video description.
