I think almost every religious person can relate to Matt’s crisis of faith, they really illustrated it spectacularly in this season and I’m not even Christian. His faith is a massive part of Matt’s character so I’m glad the show doesn’t shy away from it but actually lean into it and make it part of the storyline.

He saved my soul, changed my heart, changed my mind, helped people through me, took care of people in my life, people I hurt before I found God. God is the only reason I was able to reconcile with my dad before he died. God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead, repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart and you will be saved. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him. Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible.
Even as an atheist I find Matt's struggle with his faith very compelling and relatable. Usually I don't care for those themes in media, but this show handles it brilliantly. I never found it boring or distracting. I worry that Disney will either focus on it too much or not explore it enough. This show balanced it very well.
I do appreicate it when Holden tries not to be too preachy but it does make a lot of sense to talk about religion when it's about a character like Matt where it's such a massive part of his character
Agreed, I just wish more religious people were like Holden and also Matt, Lanthom or Maggie (yes I know they are fictional). Though this is the one time I've seen Holden contradict the story. If you want to be technical about it yes, God didn't do it to Job directly, he made a bet against the Devil that Job would stay through to his belief's even if he didn't have a blessed life. But God already knew the result, so he let the Devil destroy a man's life including his innocent family just to prove a point to the Devil. I'd say that goes in the column for Luthor that God being all powerful doesn't mean he's all good. Just to be clear I'm not like Matt in this season where I'm angry at God or anything. I'm just speaking the language. To me being angry at God is the same as being angry at Dr. Manhatten for quite frankly being lazy and uncaring. The Comedian was right when he killed a woman who he had gotten pregnant. Manhatten not only knew it was going to happen, he could have stopped it without moving a muscle. Yet he chose to do nothing, stand there and act all suprised and horrified by the Comedians action. If you know someone is going to harm another person, if you don't have the physical ability to stop it that is one thing. But to stick with Lawyers and Priests theme, everything you say that you have done in the past they are not allowed to convey to others. If they confess that they are going to harm someone in the future, they are legally forced to warn either the person who is under threat or the police. So really in the case of Job we hold God to a lower moral standard than Lawyers and Priests.

He was in fact doing to things regarding Job: highlighting his patience and perseverance as an example to all christians, as well as testing his character. We often think of Job and his family as innocent righteous people, but things are deeper than that. First, in the Christian POV, we are all born carrying the weight of the sin of Adam and Eve, which makes us condemmned from the start (no innocence there); for this reason, we all MUST go through death eventually, meaning that God choosing to take someone's life is never an act of cruelty, but simply Him doing what must be done (the mosaic law, and further the work of Jesus, were given as a way to overcome this sentence). God gives life and his sovereignty allows his the right to take it at will; given this inherited condemnation, that day will come to all eventually. Second, everything Job goes through also acts as a test of his character. He's constantly taunted at to blaspheme against God but he remains resilient and doesn't. However, we see thoughout the book that he still has a bitterness against God due to all that's happening. He doesn't say it, but he pridefully believes he doesn't deserve any of that. The book ends with God revealing Himself to Job and answering some of his question; but what's interesting is that God never really gives Job a reasoning for going through all that; instead God just keeps opening Job's eyes to how small he is in the grand scheme of things, showing him great beasts that represent evil and "manhandling" them in front of to show His own power. Then by the end, Job realizes he's been prideful all his time and he's given the new family as a rewad for that realization. So the book is there as both an example of great perseverance in God, but also as a way to show US how God is sovereign over everything. He is not under any moral standard, and neither above any one; He is in fact The moral standard and all things exist on Him. I'm not sure I managed to tackle everything you mentioned, but I hope it serves as a spark for further reflection.

But I think the reason we were able to do so was we all agreed on a fundamental level that the first thing you do. Is leave your religion at the door and you take care of your kids, family, friends and neighbors first no matter what so long as they treated you with the same respect you showed them. The religions were more about being a part of a community trying your best to lead a good life and help where and if you could. That was considered the best way to live the life the creator wanted for people. Then many things happened and got revealed to us one after another. Priest abuse on the largest scale in history, planes, self bombs, sending missiles towards civilian populations, women getting gang SA'd, thrown acid on for wanting to go to school. I could go on but I already have to be careful with the language as it is on YT, you get the picture. I was the first in my family to break out at 12 realizing this was not right, but eventually more and more followed. And not just them, the families we were friends with from other faiths became either Atheist or more secular than they already were. Some might have a personal private relationship with the creator. But they could not retain their membership cards. I know this is an extreme example, I hate using this example it's such an overused card to point to when something is bad. I'm not playing it to say they are equal, I'm using it because it's the simplest way to explain what I mean by not retaining the member ship card. In the beginning a certain german man with a mustache. Who initially gained followers not for his hate against a particular group of people. But spoke out against the poor treatment of Germans. How it was unfair of Germans who had nothing to do with the first WW having to be punished for something they didn't do. He had a long term evil plan of course, but people forget that before 1936 when the propaganda machine was in full effect. What they were preaching was not considered radical as much as it was restoring the country now that the old leadership was dead, or gone. Still the violence that had started towards certain groups was hidden unless you knew where to look for it. There were people outside the country who considered themselves members. Or at the very least people that were sympathetic or friendly towards them right up until 1939. Thinking that the reports coming out of what they were actually doing was false. Only to get a rude awakening once they could no longer deny that the people who were crying wolf were not lying. At which point they handed in their membership cards. Not dissimilar to how the membership cards of religions got handed in. Even those who couldn't go fully with me on it all being made up for power and control. That it's no difference between religion, Santa and the Easter Bunny. And still have that private relationship. Did not want to be a part of a community which swept atrocities under the rug because it was uncomfortable to talk about.
So happy you guys are back with Daredevil. Especially since after Defenders, and you guys are gonna love this third season. It's just as amazing as the first two seasons 🔥🔥🔥😊
It's about time you guys react to Daredevil S3. I love the first two seasons but S3 is on a another level for me. Action, character building of new and older characters are top tier.
Can't wait for Jen to see the final ep I think it's some of the best that Netflix and Marvel have done plus Charlie's performance is top tier and proves in the final confrontation why he was the perfect person to play Daredevil. So powerful
This season, along with season 1, is HANDS DOWN some of the best TV.....period!! Nevermind just being great for the superhero/comic book genre. S1&3, imo, are akin to what The Dark Knight was for the genre in cinema. TOP TIER stuff. This and Stranger Things were like lightning in a bottle for Netflix. It's hard to decide which is stronger (S1 or S3), but so much of this season is near perfect.
So glad you have finally reached season 3. I thought it was the best of the series (and I'm still mad that it's not been released on blu ray). With most of the seasons, there is the feeling that some of the episodes were padding to fill out the full season. This season, IMO, doesn't have any padding at all. Every bit of the show is necessary to tell the full story. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.
As someone that loves learning I love it when Holden talks about Christianity in ways like this. If he'd make an entire video about S3 Matt Murdock and his whole faith ordeal on his other channel I'd definitely watch

Idk if you heard this Holden, but the Echo MCU Disney+ series is CONFIRMED to be rated TVMA with Fisk and Matt being in the series (the teaser trailer is out if y’all wish to react to it). So this likely means Born Again is TVMA as well. Not to mention Deadpool 3 is confirmed R, as is the Blade film. So it seems like Disney is starting to let certain characters and stories be darker and more mature where they need to be
As a lapsed Catholic from Jersey City Matt is definitely relatable. He’s always been my favorite superhero. There’s something inspirational about The Man without Fear to me. I dont mind when you get scriptural during this show. Its kinda baked into the premise.
Please watch the Echo trailer if you haven't already. It looks much much closer to the Netflix shows and washed away any worries I had about Born Again.

For the record: I’m a comfortably lapsed Catholic, and self-avowed firm atheist. However, Daredevil has been my favourite comic book hero for decades, ever since I read my cousin’s DD collection for the first time. And, from that perspective, a Daredevil fan and an atheist, I think this was a great series and has been my unparalleled favourite Marvel adaptation ever since. Ultimately, religion is about people, and as a backdrop for a hero’s struggle, it’s fascinating in the series. Unlike previous adaptations, they use more than the iconic imagery of the Catholic faith, and employ the parable dynamic to examine the human condition.

It's great you're continuing with Daredevil! It one of the best TV series. I really hope "Born Again' will continue the grittiness of it's predecessors. Although it was great seeing him in "She Hulk", Daredevil (as well as Kingpin) became just another campy Marvel character.
I honestly just started watching daredevil for the first time and I'm in the middle of season 2 and have been watching your reactions of an episode after I finish that episode and i saw there wasn't any season 3 episode so i was a little disappointed so seeing as I'll be on season 2 soon this makes me really excited
Just so y'all know Matt doesn't just have super hearing he has a bunch of other super powers both mystical (from his training with Stick) and "mutate" (from the chemicals that went into his eyes). He can sense not because of his hearing or other natural senses but because his brain is literally like a radar sending out low level psychic-like signals allowing him to essentially detect things even if all his senses are gone.
Jennifer Hardman, watch the Punisher. Add it to the list of stuff you want to watch. Sometimes polls are good and sometimes you need to do what you want. This is one of those times to do what you want, The Punisher is your alter ego.
Long have I waited for this. A great season lies ahead. I am disappointed that marvel could never reach the heights of Daredevil and Punisher in shows or films.
This is the best season of all the Netflix marvel shows, i loved it from start to finish. No spoilers but episode 5 has one of my favorite fight sequences in the entire show.

Idk if you heard this Holden, but the Echo MCU Disney+ series is CONFIRMED to be rated TVMA with Fisk and Matt being in the series (the teaser trailer is out if y’all wish to react to it). So this likely means Born Again is TVMA as well. Not to mention Deadpool 3 is confirmed R, as is the Blade film. So it seems like Disney is starting to let certain characters and stories be darker and more mature where they need to be

As a lapsed Catholic from Jersey City Matt is definitely relatable. He’s always been my favorite superhero. There’s something inspirational about The Man without Fear to me. I dont mind when you get scriptural during this show. Its kinda baked into the premise.
This is a season that I loved, probably more than all the other ones. It is a comic book hero story come to life in the best way.

For the record: I’m a comfortably lapsed Catholic, and self-avowed firm atheist. However, Daredevil has been my favourite comic book hero for decades, ever since I read my cousin’s DD collection for the first time.
And, from that perspective, a Daredevil fan and an atheist, I think this was a great series and has been my unparalleled favourite Marvel adaptation ever since.
Ultimately, religion is about people, and as a backdrop for a hero’s struggle, it’s fascinating in the series. Unlike previous adaptations, they use more than the iconic imagery of the Catholic faith, and employ the parable dynamic to examine the human condition.
Embrace God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. I have seen God act in my life. He saved my soul, changed my heart, changed my mind, helped people through me, took care of people in my life, people I hurt before I found God. God is the only reason I was able to reconcile with my dad before he died.
God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead, repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart and you will be saved.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him.
Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible.
It's great you're continuing with Daredevil! It one of the best TV series. I really hope "Born Again' will continue the grittiness of it's predecessors. Although it was great seeing him in "She Hulk", Daredevil (as well as Kingpin) became just another campy Marvel character.

I honestly just started watching daredevil for the first time and I'm in the middle of season 2 and have been watching your reactions of an episode after I finish that episode and i saw there wasn't any season 3 episode so i was a little disappointed so seeing as I'll be on season 2 soon this makes me really excited

Just so y'all know Matt doesn't just have super hearing he has a bunch of other super powers both mystical (from his training with Stick) and "mutate" (from the chemicals that went into his eyes). He can sense not because of his hearing or other natural senses but because his brain is literally like a radar sending out low level psychic-like signals allowing him to essentially detect things even if all his senses are gone.
After half a yearish im back and finishing or starting this season on the channel finally
Jennifer Hardman, watch the Punisher. Add it to the list of stuff you want to watch. Sometimes polls are good and sometimes you need to do what you want. This is one of those times to do what you want, The Punisher is your alter ego.
