      @@barebasics Robles, his trainer admitted afterwards that they were very surprised how much AJ had changed, and just how well he moved. It did catch them out. Ruiz lost his fear of AJ after his first fight. He became deluded that he need not train too hard to win the rematch.
      He felt he 'had AJ's number', so simply lost motivation to train hard. It happens. It's the way Tyson felt before he lost to Douglas. The way Ali felt before he lost to Frazier. Surrounding themselves with fan boys they eventually start believing their own hype. And then reality hits them with the painful truth.

    People may say it's harsh, but think of it like this; you just won the heavyweight championship in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. Not only that, but you were the first of your heritage to win the heavyweight championship in the history of boxing as well. You have an entire country and more cheering you on and you show up almost 20 pounds overweight and put on a half assed performance and get completely schooled by the guy you just took those belts from. Ruiz let everyone backing him down by doing what he did, and he deserves the criticism. I hope that maybe he can find himself and regain his reputation and respect, but for the time being he should probably just rethink his strategy.

      @@sankofax8082 He does seem to enjoy spending his earnings.
      And fighters do not get to keep all of the purse money that they've earned, that's something that many people overlook:
      ==========
      "... _the federal income tax rate will be 39.6 percent on their prize winnings_.”
      “_If the guy has a manager or advisor, that guy will make about 20 to 25 percent of what the fighter makes from the fight_,”
      “_The promoter will make another 20 to 25 percent off the fighter’s side of the purse.” Boom, another half gone!_
      _Of course, that doesn’t even include the trainers, who are likely going to get about 15 percent of the fighter’s purse, and the cut men (the guys who help seal cuts on a boxer’s pulverized face) who are going to get a flat fee, or somewhere along the lines of 2 percent._
      “_Also factor in six to eight weeks of training camp, the daily rate of two sparring partners, food, travel, hotel costs and tickets for family members, which are usually paid for by the fighter_,”
      melmagazine.com/en-us/story/the-economic-breakdown-of-a-boxing-purse-who-gets-what
      ==========
      I wouldn't be shocked at all if he ends up broke, regardless of what happens next. It's almost the rule for pro athletes:
      ==========
      _More than two-thirds (78%) of former NFL players are broke or financially stressed after retirement, and 60% of former NBA players go broke five years after retiring_
      www.businesspundit.com/25-rich-athletes-who-went-broke/
      ==========
      A LOT of fighters, many of whom made way more than Ruiz, have gone bankrupt.
      ==========
      _Perhaps more so than its sporting cohorts on the football field and baseball diamond and elsewhere, it seems the squared circle is an incubator of tales of financial handwringing-where fighters who came from zero amassed great sums of cash, only to lose it in a hail of excess, deceit or simple imprudence._
      bleacherreport.com/articles/1654741-10-big-boxing-names-who-went-bankrupt#slide0
      ==========
      So it wouldn't be that shocking at all if Ruiz went broke after his career. In fact, it would be more of a surprise if he didn't.
      The signs are already there; he bought that big mansion, which is also a huge money pit (property tax, upkeep), expensive cars, jewellery, etc. So clearly there's a pattern there; he likes to spend.

    One dangerous thing about boxing is the length of time between matches. If a guy wins a fight and a bunch of money, and his next fight is 6 months away, an undisciplined fighter will do just what Ruiz did here, thinking, "I'll party for awhile then get ready later." In other sports, the athletes have to perform for the fans at least once or twice every week, so they have to keep their training and conditioning up to speed.

    YES, its Very disappointing, un-acceptable and disrespectful. However, for you Non-Boxing People and casusl fans, this is the TRUTH. YES he came into the Joshua fight like the biggest fattest out of shape tub of shit possible. BUT, he always comes into EVERY fight like a fat out of shape huge tub of shit. he is NEVER in shape. at 270lb's, 260lbs,250lbs,240lbs he is obese and not in good fighting condition. When it comes to Training He is ALWAYS lazy, un-disciplined, and unfocused. Between fights he is EVEN lazier and more un-disciplined. Throw in a TERRIBLE metabolism, a good chin, good skill, decent power and you have ANDY RUIZ. Maybe its shocking. But Why should we expect any different from him? He has NEVER done things any other way. BTW he seems like a Very NICE Kid. And Good for him for making a lot of money in a very short period of time :) I hope he enjoys it and is smart with it. ALSO, It would probably take him 2 solid years of constant conditioning and a Massive improvement of diet to get where he needs to be. Maybe longer. also, He was matched and moved masterfully by his Former promoter(top rank) he has 1 marquee win. and that was Joshua... NO other good wins.. just the right place at the right time. AND YES He Can Fight. Lets hope 1 day we see him at his best. we certainly have NOT yet.

      Teddy wouldn’t take the job. Too much integrity. This loss like the Duran no mas fight will define Ruiz as a fighter for the rest of his career. If he does come back, it will take years and lots of convincing wins against quality opponents for him to ever get a title shot again. Teddy wouldn’t want to make the promise to him knowing it would be years before they got a title shot.
      My guess Ruiz gets a few more low dollar fights,bums, a young hungry up and comer beats him, and he retires. He’s set for life financially, he doesn’t have to fight anymore. His performance this fight showed his heart is not there. He had all of Mexico behind him, on arguably the biggest stage in the world, defending his heavyweight title. And he shows up at 283. Doesn’t deserve a title shot, and doesn’t deserve boxing as a whole.

    I said the same things as Teddy Atles. Ruiz didn't fight the second match just as I said. Ruiz was using drugs and he never trained that is why he was thin. Teddy doesn't remember the same thing happened to Buster Douglas. Douglas was a bum for Tyson to fight so he could duck, actually Don King made Tyson duck good fighters. They drugged up Douglas, he never trained, and he lost in the exact same way as Ruiz.

    • @TomTom-rh5gk
      @TomTom-rh5gk 4 роки тому

      @saintquinn007 You are right. I was exaggerating. The point is big money picks champions and they pick people who are bankable. Ruiz didn't look like a champion because he was too undisciplined. No one made Ruiz or Buster Douglas take the drugs but no one told them not to. Ruiz's managers took bribes to tell him to go out and have fun. Ruiz lost weight because of cocaine use not because he was working out in the gym. Joshua a rich kid, golden boy who is a great boxer and that is why he was chosen. The problem is he doesn’t know how to fight. Tyson Fury had to be a tough guy to survive so he likes to fight. He isn’t so much a boxer an anti-boxer who likes to play around and frustrate others. He is a lot like Ali. Ali was a great boxer and a better anti-boxer. On the other hand Fury is 6”9" and a freak of nature. Fury's weakness is he playing out there and doesn’t want to hurt anyone . Deontay Wilder can’t box a lick but he is big and he can punch and that is how he got noticed. Deontay is the only warrior in the group. Deontay Wilder don’t play. He ain’t bull shitting out there. When Deontay is in the ring he doesn't want to hurt you, or even knock you out. Deontay wants to kill you. Humans rarely want to kill and that is why we always hold back. The boxing establishment can't understand Deontay because he isn't a fighter he is a killer. A killer can do things that are impossible for a boxer because they have a completely different skill set.

    When Teddy talks about fighters without heart, guys he calls quitters, those disrespecting the sport etc, we should listen, he knows, personally/first hand even, a lot about fighters who do things such as what I've just mentioned. He knows a lot about good fighters who just throw opportunities away etc. Yes, Ruiz fucked himself up badly, and he did disrespect the sport, that hallowed sport that is professional boxing. As I said, Teddy knows a lot about these things, as he has seen it happen multiple, multiple times. He surely must have a pretty good radar for that sorta behavior by know as he surely recognizes when it is happening. So when Teddy talks of fighters quitting, lack of heart, etc, etc, he knows all too well, and maybe one day he'll figure some way to finally prevent his fighters from doing the same shit, time and time again.

    This guy had 6 months to get in proper shape. Could you imagine how dangerous Ruiz could be if he dropped 30-40 lbs from his first AJ fight weight? Instead, he walked in nearly 20 lbs heavier. That is almost criminal and totally unacceptable for a professional athlete in any sport. He was the first ever mexican heavyweight champion and he had the hopes and dreams of an entire country behind him. He pulled the biggest upset this last decade and he had the opportunity of a lifetime with the rematch, to cement himself and increase his drawing potential, making sure his grand kids and great grand kids could be financially secure. He doesn't deserve a rematch any time soon if you ask me. You judge a man by how he acts when he has everything, and that is not the behavior of a true champion. AJ on the other hand, worked hard, dropped weight and came in with a game plan which was executed perfectly. This last 6 months for him must of been some of the worst in his entire career. All of the hate, the doubts, people telling him to drop his training team and writing him off completely. His entire career was wagered on this rematch and he did what he had to do to get his belts back. I think losing to Ruiz the first time was the best thing that ever happened to AJ. Firstly, it revealed to him those who were REALLY in his corner the entire time, filtering out those people who were only with him and supporting him because he was winning. Everyone wants to be your friend, call you, hang out with you, invite you to do shows, bring you opportunities when you're winning, but only your true friends, family, team and fans stick with you when you lose.
