We’ve made a pizza in the air fryer. After that first 6 minutes, Flip the dough, spray or rub a bit of oil on it and then add the toppings. Keep checking it in 10 minute increments and spray a little avocado oil over the top for best results instead of olive oil. Makes it nice and crispy. Doesn’t matter if it’s thick or thin crust, same technique applies . The air fryer cooks from the top, so that’s why you have to flip and spray everything to get them crispy on both sides.

If you seal off the slots in the basket, the hot air cannot circulate underneath the dough. The bottom cannot cook. This is a common mistake when using air fryers as though they are mini regular ovens. You could have flipped the dough over and gotten a better result.

Other reasons to get an airfryer include... when its summer or you live in a hot country and you don't want to use the oven because it generates too much heat! Also for a lot of people who have a small oven, when you are cooking a large meal it is effectively an extra small oven :) perfect for christmas dinner sides

@@EsmeeHulskamp make the dough a bit smaller than the basket. Add 2 strips of foil each folded a few times under the dough for thin lifting handles. Put in dough. Spritz top with oil. Set time for 3 minutes (my dough is in the basket during the preheat stage). Flip when timer goes off. Add toppings and set timer for 4 more minutes.
      * my 2nd pizza needed less time (the dough inflated during the 1st 3 minutes but flattened when flipped so 2 min for the 1st side is likely enough). Your 2nd SIDE may need less time depending on how many toppings you add so check after 3 minutes.
I used bread dough from Publix Bakery - that's what they sell as pizza dough. That may affect the time too. You may need to adjust based on your fryer, dough and thickness of toppings. This was fun. I have 3 pkg of dough my husband just brought home so we'll be doing this again really soon.

I had some short ribs defrosted, by 2:00 I was in heaven. Seriously, I had heard how awesome these air fryers are and I haven't stopped cooking, veggies, wings, OMG I love it? And the clean up is so easy. I didn't want anything too large but for the price I went for it. We make the buffalo cauliflower a little differently: after dipping in the batter, the florets are dredged in breadcrumbs. After the initial airfry, some sauce (about 50/50 butter/sweet chili sauce with some Sriracha) gets spooned over top. Then the cauliflower is airfried again for about 8 minutes. Result: very crispy yet sticky, sweet and a little hot, just incredible.

I'm VERY experienced with AirFyers. There is a difference between Airfyers and Convection. Also, there are vast differences between the Airfryer you have which looks like the Philips brand and say the Hurricane AirFryer. You should experiment with the Hurricane brand. Its larger capacity well and multiple heating and cooking system provide the overall end results you and your partner were seeking. The Philips is more like a college dorm level AirFryer which is good but not intended for the level you were expecting. Also, the issue with the popcorn was the moisture factor. Steaming causes the seed to open or flower to the puffed we normally expect. SO adding a paper bag to the recipe will mean all the difference. See the paper bag will keep in the moisture from the seeds and allow for popping or opening that the heat from the AIrfryer cooks with. PLUS if you wanted to be healthier more so than you are portraying this device can provide you need not use oil. But if you do be careful what oils you use. As I am sure you know some oils provide a crispier effect because of their viscosity factor. Bacon oil as I remember being one of those oils that crisp items extremely fast. So not really advisable to be utilized in the cooking of Popcorn in the context of using an Airfryer. Oil is actually used in a pot or in the cooking of popcorn to aid in non-adhesion to the pot or surface being used. I've cooked popcorn in a paper bag in a Microwave without oil and had great results. In addition, oil can assist in other ways to a perfectly popped and enjoyable favorite snack while still being healthy. I love coconut oil. While it's the same in crispy factor it's more controllable and FAR healthier. Lastly, I adore the chemistry of you two. Not too slapstick and not too corporate, its actually just right and a bit quirky which I rather enjoy. Thank you for your content and please keep up the great videos. #HeruVision

I made the same mistake with pizza. Even using a baked pita shell you have to blind bake the crust on both sides until crispy before adding ingredients. With this dough, you would need to cook for awhile on both sides. Also, the dough should be a little thinner as the air fryer tends to really puff up any type of pastry due to the convection.

When you dehydrate food, in a good dehydrator, the temperature you use is between 125-135 degrees. On the apples and bananas, you are not dehydrating them, you are cooking them, even 250 is too high a temperature. Dehydrating takes hours. Generally my commercial dehydrator takes at least 10-12 hours.

Failed experiment isn't failure. Those who have prior experience, Such as this, he regularly experiments in cooking various dishes, that instinct is perfected and honed... Just like when my son was first holding his baby nephew, my grandson from my daughter, and my son said Mom I don't know what to do he keeps crying... I was able to suggest something and my son said wow mom that worked - how'd you know... Raising 2 kids you learn how to determine what options to do in what order based on the way baby cries... Who knew almost 40 years later there's evidence of how babies cry is a form of communication. As for most people fail... Henry Ford failed 19 times before he got a working car. On the 20th attempt was the model T. He named each version in alphabetical order and Each previous version failed. We have car's and now various forms of styles and options because 1 man refused to let failed experiments stop him. It's not the failure part. It's the "not learning about WHY it failed." The loss of hope to keep trying. Most people don't just give up, they just don't know how to keep going forward. Fear of More failure and for many there's fear of success. I hope this helps with a different perspective..

I started with an airfryer like you have, but then went with the power xl airfryer oven almost 5yrs ago. Use it daily. I've baked, fryed, dehydrated, used caserole dishes in it, burgers, pork roasts, rotisseied small birds, and roasts, it does basically everything the first airfryer does, plus so much more. No popcorn. Also, for lower carb buffalo cauliflower, mix the buffalo sauce ingredients, sprinkle some flour onto the cauliflower bites, then mix, then add some sauce to cover, then either bake in a pan, or on the racks. I usually switch the racks for even crisp. Delicious.

As a matter a fact, my mum had an old electric stove and oven that had a timer that not only turned of the oven, but rang at the end too, but that brand doesn't exist any more. I don't have same issues like you, but during my first year of marriage I once burnt 6 hardboild eggs: everything was black in the pot, and there was hardly any yolk left and the smoke was everywhere, even crowling out of closed windows! I only kept the pot for some diy stuff becouse it was totaly ruined! Forunatly, it was summer time, so I left the windows open all night long to get the smell out! I was having guests the next day, so practicly I put on the stove the eggs to boil, forgot about it and went groceryshopping... 🤣

Loving the air fryer ideas, just recently got one and still working out what I can do in it. I find it super useful when cooking multiple components in a dish. one request if it isn't too time consuming, are you able to add the Celsius in post...watching from Australia...

I’m a busy mom but I usually buy the frozen okra and I make it in the air fryer , since they come battered already at first I tried them with no drizzle of oil and they never crisped so I just drizzled some olive oil and I tossed them around and they came out PERFECT!! now air fried okra is my favorite side dish

I have a different brand air fryer that has more of a large frypan than a deep saucepan shape. I always line it with baking paper to avoid cleaning issues and stop any sticking. I think baking paper would have helped the popcorn and the Buffalo cauliflower as your batter got stuck in the holes on the bottom of the pan, and the corn fell through. Otherwise great stuff, thanks.👍😊

The thick pizza didn't leave room on the sides for air flow.

wouldn't matter. Even with room around the edges, bottom of pizza will not cook properly, unless you're working on a 3 inch pizza.

Couldn't you just flip the pizza and cook for another 2-3 mins before putting on the toppings?

@@2tolerable No, Less time cooking a pizza the better it is. That is why wood burning ovens are the best for Pizza as it can cook a pizza in 60-90 seconds. Now you are suggesting cooking the dough 2 times and again a 3rd time for the actual pizza. You will kill the taste with that much cooking time, but your pizza will be cooked thoroughly. Cooking a pizza is not as simple as it looks. This is why you have so many gadgets out their specifically designed to cook only pizza, and even these gadgets do a poor job for the most part. The deep fryer was never meant to cook pizza, but it's fun to try. At home I generally cook pizza in an oven preheated to 500 degrees. If the dough is good, the total cooking time is 8-10 minutes depending on type of pizza I am cooking, and its pretty damn good. Another technique is to cook the pizza dough in a hot pan with a touch of butter, and finish it under the broiler for 2-3 minutes. Also very good, but limited to the size of the pan you can fit on a burner, so really only good for pizzas that are 8-10 inches across, but it's also a very fast way of making amazing pizza.

@@Adam.P That's fine for a thinner pizza, but that dough would need longer to cook. He was getting come crispiness on top(where the air was hitting it most). He could have cooked it longer for the first bit and then cranked it to get it crispy. Since he knows now the bottom doesn't get all that crispy, that side would have made for a perfect top instead of bottom. Kind of a combination of your suggestion and Crystal's. In order to get the crispy bottom and ensure it's cooked all the way through.

What about starting your ribs in the pressure cooker or instapot? Then finish off in oven or air fryer?

brush dough with butter, then flip that side to the bottom of the fryer pan. butter the top as well. crisps AND colors the dough to perfection. (for the deep dish pizza dough)
