A good introduction, but any discussion on the Havamal really should include Stanza 127, which is one of the three or four most important subjects. “Where you see evil, name it as evil and give your enemies no peace”

My grandfather always said he didn't carry a weapon to force his will on someone else but to keep them for forcing theirs on him and I follow that as well I carry but pray I never have to draw on another person

My very strict Christian mother once asked me after I stopped being a police officer, why do you still carry your weapon everywhere. I said because I trust my bullets over your prayers most days. I don’t carry it to be evil but to keep evil at bay. Some what the same as the pervious comment.

@@WildLifeService Kinda funny cause even the Christian/Jewish bible has parts in there with the exact same philosophical lean.
Btw, prayers are useless. Great for making someone with zero resolve feel better about not taking ownership of choices. You always have choices. Whether they are taken or not is your own responsibility.

Gotta agree with you about the forgiveness. It doesn't mean holding grudges per se, but definitely closing the door on whatever relationship it is when people are treating you badly and are set in their ways. It's important for healing and for personal growth 🌳

Before ever finding this faith I drank to blackout at least once a week and just drank heavily each day. This went on for 3 years until I got cancer and could not drink anymore. Fully cured now I realized during my recovery I was much happier and confident with myself as a person the less I drank. I too will still occasionally have a beer while out with my friends but never anything like I used to. Being new to the faith I'm so glad I found your channel as I am so eager to take in all the information I can. But this video really struck a cord with me. That realization was one of the most poignant moments of my life and had I read the Havamal before going through those dark days maybe I could have saved myself mountains of trouble.
Love your videos and appreciate you for sharing with us your journey. Until the Hall, Skål my brother.

If I can I walk to a gathering. The midsummer ritual in 2019 had me walking 2 days to there with my 1-person hikertent, camp there and walk back the next day. Not from my house, that was too far, but from and to trainstations for a total of 60k/37mls. Walking made me pagan to begin with so it's a permanent part of my practice.

Hi! I am learning about this faith because of a recent experience I had. I have always felt a presence of a strong guide in my life, and assumed it was a deity. At first I thought it was Aphrodite or Hecate, then it hit me. All of the signs I was seeing, everything I was feeling has made me realize that this whole time it was Freyja. The night I had my revelation, I did some basic research about her and found traditional music dedicated to her. I listened to the music and felt her presence around me. I felt so happy, strong, and empowered all at once. Although I am young, I feel this faith might be right for me, and I’m so happy I found your channel! Also, if anyone has any tips or advice for a new Norse Pagan please reply with it!

I have a serious problem with booze and have for a decade. Luckily I've recently quit and have been doing really well. Its a common misconception that pagans have to be rowdy drinkers. All though for many of us that is true. I do still use it as offerings. And I dig that you have guns. I personally own mostly rifles and shotguns for hunting purposes, but I still think everyone should keep one specifically for home defense. Also practice melee with axes and what not regularly. great exercise and it enhances form. Love the Edda convo man

Also on Stanza 47: I believe it can relate to your finances; Never out spend your pocket, always be prepared to have a fall-back in case of catastrophe. Seeing more and more these days where folks are losing their jobs and have no money to fall back on - don't put that stress on yourself and make sure you have enough to tide you over for a few months until you can get working again.

Turn off screens reminded me of when late at night I heard high-pitched random sounds and pitches in my bedroom. Everything was turned off yet I followed the sound to my TV! Normally I'd be asleep. The sounds we're harsh and disturbing. By studying esoteric things frequency can be used as a weapon. It stopped when I clicked off my power strip. "Overforgiveness" was always one of the things that turned me off from Christianity. I do not want to love my enemies. I do not want to forgive my enemies. I want to pursue them to the very gates of Hell. Ok, that's dramatic but still, I do not take kindly to anyone telling me that natural human emotions shouldn't be expressed. The Havamal speaks to my sensibilities entirely: "repay betrayal with betrayal". Hail!

    • @TheWisdomOfOdin
      @TheWisdomOfOdin  3 роки тому

I think it’s important to remember to separate your religion/faith away from politics. The Wisdom of Odin community is inclusive but non-political. We have had gatherings of Republicans, democrats, and every in between. And no one talks politics.
Just think why would the gods take interest in our modern politics? The ancestors lived in a much different world than we do now.
As the world has gotten more divided by politics I have grown closer to the faith and the people who follow the faith without tying politics to it. 🍻

I am a norse pagan from the uk and we are not allowed to own pistols, let alone carry them. Hek were not even allowed to carry knives! However, theres no laws regarding sticks so I always carry a 'walking stick' dispite having no real need of a walking aid and have trained to use it as a quarter staff. Like you I hope to have no need of it but the fact that it will not fit in my pocket means it seems to work as an effective visual deterrent

    • @neowolf09
      @neowolf09 3 роки тому +2

Agreed. I used to drink daily. Just after high school I was intoxicated 24/7
I became a kind of person I despised, and somehow, was awoken from my ignorance by events that guided me away from that lifestyle.
I do still drink occasionally, but have seriously reduced how often and how much I drink.
I still can't remember my dreams most of the time, but then again my dreams are often very intense when I do remember them, and can wake me up or ruin my sleep.
And on the subject of sleep. I often find it difficult to sleep not because I worry, but because my mind refuses to stop thinking. I have to manually hold the mental thought shutoff button. Basically force my mind to stop thinking in order to sleep. Ironically watching a movie like fight club, v for vendetta, the matrix, ect. helps me to sleep. It's familiar, and relaxing. The tranquility of repetition I suppose. I've seen them a hundred times each at least.
I'm genuinely interested in learning about my dreams, but when I dream they're often a weird mix of a nightmare and a normal dream. I'm also often mixed between being lucid but also not. I know I'm in a dream but I can't control it.

I can't say it enough Jacob you are such an inspiration for all modern day Norse Pagans. Thank you for your advice, for your wisdom and most importantly thank you for taking the time to educate beginners on Norse Pagan path.

Stanzas 21 has more than one meaning... Yes it has the outer layer of limiting food consumption. Even the cows know when to go home while the fool doesn't know the limits to appetite. Meaning he doesn't know when he worn out his welcome and time to go home. Just how I look at it... Good guest knows when to leave with good terms

The dwarfs are admired by the gods cause they have the power to create all sorts of magical weapons if we think about it we are dwarfs that came here to experience our greatest joy. However We are dwarfs with consciousness and that is the challenge
once we have satisfaction we transform into light elves and go to vallhala if we have regrets we are reincarnated

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I remember 20+ years ago when my father, who I greatly love and respect, asked me why I had so much ammo in my pantry. I was dumbfounded because I probably had less than a 20-round box for each caliber that I own. He didn't see the greater amounts stored elsewhere. I believe in self-reliance and being a part of your community and having things to share with the community when needed.

Those who focus now on preparedness and self reliance will be those most likely to survive in the future. At the very least economic collapse is imminent (speaking from a canadian perspective - gov is spending ridiculously unsustainable sums of money right now) my wife and I are trying to buy property in the woods to be more self reliant than we are already. I also want to put my primitive building skills to use and build a traditional longhouse out in the back as well for the folk. If you ever get to building that hall and are in need of assistance just holler
    P.s.
With everything going on in the world + the shortage on guns and ammo, I'd add an AR/AK platform rifle and a good short barrel shotgun to your gun collection and you'll pretty much be ready for most "worst case scenarios" that may come your way.
I prefer to hunt with a bow (i actually make viking bows lol) but unlike alot of traditionalists I'm not blind to the fact that guns are the tools of today and I would be foolish not have them.
Much love respect and honor from canada

I would offer (and it's just food for thought, not food for fights...) that Forgiveness doesn't mean just letting people who don't change walk all over you. You're still allowed to have boundaries when you forgive someone. Forgiveness doesn't really do anything for the other person, but it allows you yourself to move on. I would also offer that the idea of repaying treachery with treachery doesn't necessarily mean harm for harm. If I am your "friend" and I break that friendship for whatever reason, especially if that reason is selfish, or does cause harm, I can repay that "treachery" with the same "treachery" and stop considering you a friend. I can forgive you for the action, but still hold the same outcome, thus being free to move on with my life, while still living the Havamalic wisdom.
I'd surely value anyone's thoughts on this thought, but I sincerely don't want to fight about it.

The first stanza to me was more philosophical, I think Odin was referring to any new venture or goal that you are chasing. It could also be applied to an actual room though.

This was amazing. As someone who just adopted Norse Paganism, and waiting on my copies of the Havamal and Edda to arrive, this was a very informative outrospective to ponder.

Wow, for me as a German, it's so surreal to see you showing your guns which you actually carry. Not judging, but just saying it's weird for me.
That being said, I'm only just beginning to grasp everything about Norse paganism or the Germanic religion and I enjoy your videos a lot. Thank you!

Jacob, would you be able to put the stanza numbers in the description that you go over? By the way, I have a tactical Remington 870 for my home defense. I carry a knife with me, legally of course. I just find a knife is a lot easier to use in a confrontation than a gun. I have the mentality to use it on someone if I need to.

I have a question I don’t know if there is an answer, but in the modern world how do we get into Valhalla, if you wait till you are at the point of a retirement home you can die fighting, can you? My idea was maybe try to fight like a lion, I’m talking melee weapons, nothing else, I mean you die fighting, any ideas?
