Lord Vishnu used to do Shiva pooja here with 1000 lotus flower. To test Vishnus devotion shiva hide one flower. VISHNU found one flower missing so he plucked his one eye and completed food with it. So pleased with his devotion Lord Shiva gifted his Sudharsan Chakra, hence the place called Chakra tirtha.
Kodandarama temple is the place where Sugriva got coronation. Chakra thirtha is the place where Lord Vishnu got Vishnu Chakra from Lord Shiva. There is beautiful story that Vishnu used to do Pooja with 101 lotus(Kamala). To test the devotion of Vishnu, Shiva hid one lotus. Lord Vishnu removed his one eye to complete Pooja, so Vishnu is called by other name Kamala nayana. Impressed by his devotion, lord Shiva presented him Vishnu Chakra here. So the place is called Chakra Tirtha.
