I can say this right now.... I've had the Pixel 6, sent it back, went back to my Pixel 5a. Just had the recent Galaxy S22 Plus, sent it back, went back to my Pixel 5a. This 5a phone has been the best phone I've ever had!!
Your videos are just so darn enjoyable....regardless of whether I'm interested in the device you're featuring or not... I just really enjoy how you film and edit and bring it all together! I save your videos for my "last watch of the day" when I can just shut everything else down and go for a little virtual trip- It's awesome thank you!
You convinced me. I have a pixel 2 and I have loved it. It’s now getting on in age and I’m getting a certain amount of anxiety that it will suddenly fail. If this happens, I might end up buying something that is less than what I want it but just because it’s there. Incidentally you do a wonderful review. I’ll tell my friends.
I always enjoy your videos, especially while you travel around New York City. This one is a little more special to me because I was born and raised in Chelsea and I'm looking to replace my Pixel 3 XL with the Pixel 5a.
I switched from an Iphone 7 plus to the 5a, and so far have been enjoying the phone, it charges quickly and lasts all day and is fast and good for its price.
Loved the video as always, sadly the phone is not available in the European market. I am glad you used Chelsea as your location for this one . I stayed in the Meatpacking District while on holiday in 2017, absolutely loved the neighbourhood! I think I visited Chelsea piers, I remember a building that looked similar that was also a sports facility , but the thing I remember most was the trapeze school on the roof! Would that be the same place? Keep up the great work David.
Very enjoyable both as a review but also a guide to different parts of NY (and sometimes other locales) Your and Mr Mobiles videos goes great with that important morning coffee (check).
Watched your awesome video on my Pixel 5A. Like always, Great job! I a very happy with the phone. Cameras are good for pictures, video is better in daylight.

David, another great video. If this review gig doesn't work out, think about be a personal tour guide in NYC and New York State. I am always learning about the Big City. Waiting for the Pixel 6/ 6 Pro. Hopefully, DFW will get the next Google Store. Take Care.
Routemaster bus, Chelsea, are you sure you’re in NYC and not London? 🇬🇧 I remember the Highline from your previous review, looks a cool place to chill out while drinking a nice coffee.
Excellent tour of (the other) Chelsea - thank you Sir! Also creates a reference point for what Pixels were like, prior to 6. Looking forward immensely to your review of that, and seeing more of your 'hood.
Great video (as usual)... looks like a really cool village to check out when I'm down there. Did you have any issues with the phone overheating at all? Sounds like some people do when it's recording at 4K60 but others say not so much.
I just bought the pixel 5A 5G as an upgrade to my pixel 3XL that I've had for 3 years and I really liked it. I chose the 5A because I needed to upgrade that's my 3XL was showing signs of its age and I didn't want to wait for the pixel 6. I have been reading about the pixel 3 bricking so thought it was time to upgrade. I've had the phone about a week and I like it I wish it was more the size of an XL in width. Since I noted you used the phone as a video and took a lot of photos, did you have any problems with it overheating while in the video or camera mode. I've read that this has been an issue and I've noted in the short time I've had my phone that it will give me overheating warnings while using the camera.
@Harshvadan Rode in either mode, photo or video, I still can receive the warning but what I notice more is that it will give several short vibrations when I shoot pics or video. But only in camera mode. If I am using WhatsApp to take a pic or video, those vibrations do not happen.
I'm really hoping Google will push computational videography with the Pixel 6 series like they pushed computational photography with Pixel 2. Because, smartphone videography still looks like it's captured on a phone (Apple does it best so far, but you can still tell it's a phone in low light videos) while photography has come such a long way, sometimes it's hard even for a trained eye to tell if the photo was indeed captured on a phone or a big camera.
So, My LG G7+ThinQ decided that phone part didn't have to work after 2-1/2 years. On top of that LG ditched the mobile phone business in the past year. I was prepared to spend ~$1K for a new flagship phone to replace it. NOPE - Snagged the Pixel 5a instead. No regrets at tall and your review was right on the money. I was tempted to wait for the Pixel 6, but in the big scheme of things it is more than I need. If I really want to get serious with a camera, I'll go to my Lumix GX-85 mirrorless.
Was overheating an issue? I understand that 4k 60 fps causes it (As the 765G can't natively record that) but users around Reddit and Twitter say it overheats with basic usage. Was this prevalent with your use or was the phone perfectly fine throughout your time with it?
David very nice vlog Google Pixel line as come around lately and the battery life is impressive i have the iphone 12 now after being an android junkie for many years. But if i go back to android i will go with the Pixel
I don't know how anyone can defend this phone's price when others like the POCO F3 exist. It obliterates the 5a on all fronts except for Camera software. With a custom GCam APK, I'm sure even that metric would be marginally different, at best.
Mando, thats the thing tho. I had the F3 and like you said it was nice all around _except_ for the camera, GCam or not. That was not a sacrifice I was willing to make, so I sent it back. Besides that, with a Pixel you get clean android and the software perks like all the latest and greatest updates. MIUI 12.5 on the F3 is a mess. You're comparing apples to oranges here.
@@slowburn451 That's your prerogative, but hardware wise, Google are bandits. Same line of thinking with their Chromebooks. They're peddling garbage hardware only performing acceptably due to extremely optimized software and cloud leveraging.
I'd like to see a review of that phone's (pixel 5a) video capabilities. Also, instead of just showing them next to others, I'd like your analysis/opinions on the video sound and image quality. Finally, I'd like to see it compared with some phone(s) closer to its price, like S21 instead of Ultra, for example.

I have the 5 and just got the 5a not too long ago. I can tell you right now, once you get this 5a in your hands, you really can't tell the difference... unless you're really focusing on it.
I ended up selling my Pixel 5 and regretted it soon after. I'm only getting the 5a because of that regret, so if you still have yours I'd keep it. Definitely a great phone that I didn't appreciate.
@@JustAFatGuyInTX agreed! I paid off my Pixel 5 and I'm keeping it for a back up. I'm gonna pay off this 5a and have it for the headphone jack lol. I'm still getting the Pixel 6.
So I have to find a new phone because of AT&T needs me to get a new phone by 2022. I hate that I have to buy another unlocked phone. I'm looking at Pixel 4a 5g, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a 5g, iPhone 11, and the iPhone 12 mini. You know I would buy the iPhones only if they had 128 gb at that price range. I remember the time I had no phone in school and I was okay. I didn't really complain when I barely had a phone in school. I remember the time when I had a flip phone at 50 bucks. I seriously miss simpler times.
Interesting that if you leave on data, Bluetooth etc then you finished on 18% which isn't very much given that your usage wasn't that high in any one particular app.
I'm always curious on phone reviews when the color and the material of the back of the phone are mentioned. I always assume that should be followed up with "which doesn't matter because you're going to have a case on it anyway". I'm wondering are there people who don't use cases on their phone and can this particular phone handle being dropped without cracking the screen? I would rather enjoy the slim profile of the phone without a case if I didn't have to worry about dropping it.
Not available here, sadly and with the release of the Pixel 6 pretty soon - maybe Google will miss us out. I think the cameras are excellent, but I'm not as impressed with video - not quite sure why.

(Won't happen, for now at least, I live in Madrid Spain) but with your videos, I am falling in love with Brooklyn. Nice job!!!!

Yeah. The only thing I guess that could be considered "cool" is the slightly smaller punch out on the 5a over the 4a 5G. But shame on google for removing the PDAF. I'd say 4a 5G all day.
I love how you included more video footage from the actual phone so we can see how it does in different scenarios. As always great content!
