  • This brief video demonstrates the process of simulating an infrared effect on an image using Gimp.
Additionally, you can find a detailed explanation of this method on my website, Open Source Photography. The website covers traditional infrared photography techniques involving glass filters or modified cameras, as well as channel swapping. Moreover, in part two the article will guide you through creating your own LUT (Look-Up Table) for infrared effects, using software like RawTherapee. This article will also provide insight into the functionality of the original 2020 PictureFX Faux Infrared LUT .
Procedure to simulate an IR effect in Gimp :
    - Open a picture to convert to fake infrared
    - Click picture in the layers tab on the right - right click - duplicate layer
    - Top left - Colors - Invert
    - Layers tab on the right - click layer mode - choose HSL Color
    - The picture is now ready to adjust colors
    - Top left - Colors - click Hue-Saturation
    - In the Hue-Saturation Toolbox - change Blue to desired color (Red)
    - Change Yellow and Red to change sky to Blue - Fine tune Saturation - Lightness for desired result
