I lived in cody Wyoming for a couple of months and I loved it. They have a bar you can still smoke in AND a bar called the silver dollar where all the locals flock to every night to get drunk and have fun. I loved it there.

I was raised in Salida Colorado, which is very near St. Elmo. These days St. Elmo is a well maintained tourist destination during the summer and is used by hikers, jeepers, and people wanting to their luck at gold panning. The general store now sells a variety of merchandise, including seeds to hand feed local squirrels, chipmunks, and pigipens. The wildlife in the area is generally a bit more intelligent than their counterparts elsewhere and have very little problems with humans.
While the mountains may be mostly deprived of gold, they still have an abundance of precious and semiprecious gems, most notably aquamarine and ruby and the nearby Angel Falls are an incredible sight to behold.

The town of Rhyolite, Nevada, was the setting of Edwin Corle's 1939 book Coarse Gold. This book is Corle's great rumination on the need for raw materials to supply US needs as we prepared for WW II. Although Corle predicted the mine re-opening in preparation for the war, but it didn't actually re-open until the 1980's.

I've been to Rhyolite, it really does look that way. Some artist dude lives there with a dark sense of humor there. Erie looking figures there & a huge statue of a cinder block naked woman.
I've been to the Salton Sea, the beaches a chocked with dead fish, & everything is encrusted with a thick layer of salt.

I know Bodie very well my grandfather was William Gregory L. also known as Little Billy but he hated the name Billy. I am named after him his name was William Gregory my name is Gregory William. He was a good man he retired from the Army. He lived out the rest of his adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area. When I was a small child he took me to visit Bodie and where he grew up. They also called him ( Little Billy Bodie )

Ghost towns are abandoned towns, that being said Virginia City and Salton Sea both still have residents, in fact there is more then one town, on the shores of the Salton Sea, i cant remember all of them but there is Braley, Desert Hot Springs, Bombay Beach, Niland, El Centro, Salton Sea Beach, Westmoreland, Calipatria, Rockwood, North Shore/Mecca even Slab City ain't far from Salton Sea either. But ill let you know theres an old town some where north of Sausalito thats empty and for sale, its been on the market for a few years, all the buildings, businesses & homes, and then there is an abandonden town in Alameda County that was a base housing community, its now abandoned since the major base closers happened.

Virginia City, NV used to be quite a thriving little town. It was the home of The Territorial Enterprise, a newspaper that was edited and owned by the famous railroad historian Lucius Beebe and his sidekick Charles Clegg. Together, their photographs (Clegg's mostly) and Beebe's incredible vocabulary chronicled the development of most of America's railroads through the steam era. Their many books are highly sought by railroad hobbyists and historians. The city still has the remains of the steam railroad that connected it to civilization and is still in tourist operation, I believe.

Ummm... Cody, WY has close to 10,000 residents. I think you're thinking of a few areas outside the city or parts of the famous, "Buffalo Bill Museum Center" that thousands upon thousands of visitors visit each year on their way to and from Yellowstone National Park. I'm guessing the BBMC have had some of the abandoned buildings in the area moved to the Museum site.

I live near Centralia....about 30 to 40 minutes away. The last time I was there about 15 or so years ago there was still 2 people living there towards the outskirts. They were old then. So they are either dead or in a nursing home. They were stubborn and refused to leave their property that they worked for all their life.

#4......The Salton Sea WAS NOT created by a “storm”! Attempting to clear the silt, (circa 1901) the builder of a system to supply irrigation water to imperial valley, dynamited part of the system near the head of the Alamo river in Mexico.. It caused a breach that flowed unchecked for two years. The Southern Pacific railroad built tracks into the site, hauled in enough rock and plugged the breach after 2 years of flow. The “New Liverpool salt works and mine sits at the bottom of the sea. Learn your history!

Cody, Wyoming has a population of almost 10,000 people so is far from a ghost town. The pictures shown in the video are of a collection of old historic buildings, most brought in from a radius of 150 miles of Cody, to a place called Old Trail Town, located on the western edge of the town of Cody. I have been to Bodie, Rhyolite and Virginia City. There is another place called Berlin, Nevada that is a ghost town and a place they found Ichthyosaurs.

Thurmond, WV was a railroad town not a mining town, It is in the southern part of the state not the center, The railroad depot didn't have anything to do with tourism nobody cared about tourism in 1888, The population never reached zero and today stands at 8. Thurmond is part of the new river gorge national park and is largely maintained by the NPS as a tourist attraction.
