As a pastor, i disagree with knowing who gives what. If there is a change in pattern, that can be communicated. I dont agree with different levels of givers either. The Bible clearly talks about not giving honor to the rich person and also the widow who gave less but with a better heart for giving.
Fred, I've gone back and forth on this. As an accountant, I like having more info than less. If you don't know what people are giving, it's easy to fill in the blanks...even subconsciously. If I hear someone share a concern about how the church is operating, but I know they aren't a giver, I don't give that as much weight. They are more of a critic than a co-laborer.
Correct. If you are keeping the donor records in QuickBooks, record each donation with a Sales Receipt. QuickBooks will then help you match up the deposit with the Sales Receipts.
I use the Online Plus version. That gives you the option in the settings. The rumor is that they are actually coming out with an actual Nonprofit version.
So...I'm most familiar with QuickBooks Online. Assuming the process is similar, you'll have to Create an Invoice/Pledge. I think what I would do is enter the annual amount and make the Due Date as December 31st. If you go this route, you would need to enter them in one at a time. You may also be able to import them from a spreadsheet, but I've not done this yet. When someone pays towards their pledge, record that as a Payment. Non-pledged gifts are recorded as a Sales Receipt.
I just helped a church sign up for QuickBooks Online through TechSoup yesterday. Here's the link: www.techsoup.org/intuit Here's a post I did earlier in the year on the subject: jctaccounting.com/2023/02/17/buying-quickbooks-online-from-tech-soup-for-75/
Instead of creating Equity or Other Revenue accounts to track each Donor Restricted Fund, couldn't you use classes to create seperate side-by-side P&Ls for each fund?
I appreciate your efforts and your desire to help us out here, but to me this was a very confusing video. Jumped around so much and didn’t really show things in their fullness.
Thanks for the feedback, Rebecca. I'm debating going back and revisiting QuickBooks, and doing more of a walkthrough. A number of churches and nonprofits are switching to QuickBooks, and they really do need a step-by-step. Your comment affirms the need.
@@JeffPospisil Please do. Also quickbooks did a horrible redesign update. Also - if you can talk about the version of quickbooks. We talked to someone at quickbooks and they set us up with the wrong version. Even still - I think we're on the wrong version. We do not have a Donor's tab but Vendors.
You can, but it's a little tricky. TechSoup has an article talking about this: www.techsoup.org/support/articles-and-how-tos/intuit-quickbooks-online-faq

Hi Jeff, so the funds collected on Sundays are posted on receipt? And then you match it to the funds deposit into the bank on the following day?
Correct. If you are keeping the donor records in QuickBooks, record each donation with a Sales Receipt. QuickBooks will then help you match up the deposit with the Sales Receipts.
Hi Jeff, which version of QuickBooks online has the Pledges and Donor option for churches? Thank you.
I use the Online Plus version. That gives you the option in the settings. The rumor is that they are actually coming out with an actual Nonprofit version.
I have quickbooks desktop and need to add new pledges. Help!

Is this software still available? Our church secretary has been searching for at least 3 years.

I do like that idea, Andrew. I hadn't thought of that. It would break things out horizontally if need be on the P&L. Thanks!
I prefer to use Quickbooks installed on a laptop - not an online version. Is that workable?
It is. I've helped a few churches setup Quickbooks on a laptop. I have more experience with the online version so I tend to favor it in my videos.

@@JeffPospisil That would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I signed up with quickbooks before i knew about techsoup. Can I still get that price ? Thank you.
