I had a Koala pad for my Apple II+ It was amazing at the time! I remember being so jealous of the C64 version because it could do more colors like yellow and red. Still, I spent hours in Koala paint. Thanks for the video!

I have a version of the Koala pad licensed and branded by Tandy. It plugs into the joystick port of a Tandy (TRS-80) Color Computer 1, 2, 3, or a Tandy 1000. Aside from the plastic casing that says 'Tandy' instead of 'Koala', it's exactly the same thing.

I have no idea how most old tech works nor I really care too much about it , just a casual intrest and appreciation. But this? This is awesome. And I thought that my first graphic tablet from around 2011 was goofy as all get out! Makes me appreciate being able to pull out a phone out of my pocket and draw just that much more 😄 Thanks a lot for posting this!

Fancy thing these. I remember seeing a video about it on the computer chronicals with an old lady using a c64 program to work out her knitting or something.

I think the Commodore 64 Koala software could have used some filtering on the input -- maybe just averaging the values over time -- to make it less jittery. I got my Tandy version used, so I don't know if any software came with it, but I don't think it did. I've used it some with CoCoMax and CoCoMax 3 paint programs. It's been a few years, but I remember the experience being not quite as glorious as I had hoped, though I don't remember it jittering quite as badly as what I see here.
    Great video.
