Bobby Martin tells a story about not having to audition after being in Zappa's band. Zappa was so well respected amongst other musicians whether they liked his music or not. They knew how much rehearsal time he put in to prepare for tours.
Jimi Hendrix. Jimmy Page. Eric Clapton. Yeah, they’re guitar gods, but no one mentions what a masterful genius Frank Zappa was. I’ve read that he made absolutely sure that every member of his band had skill out the wazoo.
Good Lord that is just magic. Thanks for posting this....... This truly made my Monday. Although this level of musical talent does make me wanna throw my drums in the friiggin trash can. Damn professionals.
Frank Zappa: Guitar, Vocals; Ray White: Guitar, Vocals; Ike Willis: Guitar, Vocals, Duck Call and other effects and general lunacy; Bobby Martin: Vocals, Keyboards, French Horn, Sax; Alan Zavod: Keyboards; Scott Thunes: Bass; Chad Wackerman: Drums
From the expression that FZ wears on his face...that look of bemused resignation...just like a music teacher at a high school or a community college...he was Svengali for several generations...and this was his "day job". I believe he would have died a lot happier if he could have been certain that he would be taken seriously as a composer....I don't think he ever wanted to be a rock god...he wanted to be Stravinsky...
what's with the title? Humor? Question is does genius belong in art? but that is also a very redundant query ....😊❤️ thanks for the upload! (sorry, i can be a dick sometimes, (edited) a lot of the time ☺️🤙)
Frank was an awesome musical genius, but they really butchered The Whipping Post here. It's too polished sounding. The Allman Bros had a real raw quality to their music, and that's what made them so great.
Frank wanted this band to sound like a parody of everything else that was around at the time, hence the ultra-polished sound with those silly synths and electronic drums. Find an 81/82 version of Whipping Post and it's wholly different affair.
Bobby Martin: what a voice!!!
WHAT A MARVELLOUS MUSIC! WHAT A GENIUS FRANK ZAPPA! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That keyboardist is fucking awesome, he has a great voice. Zappa always sorrounded himself with really talented musicians.
He wrote very complicated music.

I didn't get Zappa when I was young but at least I'm beginning to get him now.
Same here Stefan; I just didn't get it..... PERIOD!!! I KNEW HE WS RET BUT IDONT' KONW O
That's an understatement

I agree
Really? No one?
No one? C'mon on, people have been adulting Frank's originality and massive musical brain forever.
I want music like this all the time, everywhere. Zappa is just genius.
🎤🎸😉👌👍
humor belongs everywhere
Amazing Scott Thunes...
One of the best bass players ever, shows just how much you can do with a pick!
Thats a crazy tempo for dancing fool!
Magnificent
Wow these guys are soo talented!!! Amazing performance!!!
imo was not only the best concert but was the best musical comp zappa ever had. i'm lucky still having my vhs with the full concert :D
He evolved Dancing Fool into a speed version, which I like it

Awesome. Whipping Post's is certainly the best Zappa's solo I've heard to the date. Bobby's performance is not short of awesomeness as well.
It's my first time that I see Frank Zappa singing. I imagine his songs are really funny as Dancing Fool
They are all funny in the sense that if you pay attention to the lyrics, the joke's on you.
it's all about the whippin' post! RIP Frank.
Who is that bass player.he is so in it.
scott thunes
that was amazing.
Puros genios!!
BEST THERE EVER BEEN
FRANK ZAPPA ERA UN GENIO.
Siempre!
Magic
Legend the best
Ecstatic.
Yeah… I knew you’d be surprised.
Most underrated composer and rock of the 20th century. No one mentioned him. No one gave props until the very end of his life.
None of that is true.
I've completely banned FM radio for cutting out all the cus words from our songs! Long live Frank Zappa! Thank you for your'e freedom of speech!
UN GRAND !
You should check out live at the Roxy. Probably the tightest FZ band he put together.
I agree.

HUMOR??
Depends on the music.
Zappa = Music ..... no depend's needed !

So he achieved it... I find him better then Stravinsky. And I love Stravinsky ;-)
Well, he was indeed!
yip yip:)))))))) exactly:)
Lol...hey

@@prankette do tell?
Chad is fantastic, and still at it, he's a great great player. Touring with The Furious Bongos this sept.
@LukeRossTheBoss I know!! this whole video rules... a must see if you havn't
Wait a minute.. is this the best band you ever heard in your life ?
in my opinion, all zappa bands are the best! thank you friend.
,I never heard the best band ,, I've never heard , so I heard
Frank is not dead, just smells funny.
Humoer Humor belongs to it.
this one goes to 21
Servono 2 Handrix 4 Clapton,con l'aggiunta di McLoglin.
Ci metterei anche 2 Prince, 1 Dwizeel, e Vai. Grande
Scott should have played his P bass on this one. There was never going to be a Zappa song where a J bass sounds better than a P bass.

I don't know if i would say it does or doesn't "belong" in music

Why would a person ask whether it "belongs" in music 4+25+2023
