    The EHX Memory Man is 24v, with center positive polarity.

    Thank you for explaining this so well. I’ve played guitar for more years than I can count however I’m just starting to build a phenomenal pedal collection. Thanks for your help.

    THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I feel dumb and lucky that I never had problems before now, but I just bought a Flanger pedal from A/DA that had some strange requirements so I'm glad I watched this.

    Great video, well spoken and breaks down a complicated subject. I'm in the middle of building a pedal board and smoked one of my vintage pedals.

    Burned a Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus by plugging it to a Pod XT power supply.
    That's how I learned how to check if the power supply was AC or DC.
    Thanx Line 6.
    Had to replace the diode on the pedal.

    I only Y Power for certain fx. I don't recommend Daisy chain. For example I have 2 TC Electronics Nova Delay and Modulation. 12V 300mA each. The SKB Stage 5 pedalboard doesn't provide enough mA. So, I use a 12V one spot, Y and 2 reverse polarity adapters. I took some daily chain chords, cut off the rest. I do the same for a couple of pedals that run 18V. The rest are isolated. I just recently reorganized my main pedalboard. I also have 2 pedals that use 9V 500mA as well. One is Eventide Pitch Factor and the other is for a Boss MS -3 switcher. Most use less than 100mA. Isolated power is the way to go.

    ProCo Rat pedals use center positive on a 3.5mm plug and fuzzes are wired internally with plus and minus reversed, even if the socket is with a minus center, and if they're daisy chained with a "regular" pedal the power supply will short out.

  • @pikkuarska
    @pikkuarska 5 років тому +2

    Older big muffs are "center positive", or actually tip positive since they use 3,5mm power jacks.

    Just bought an AC power supply on accident and plugged it into my 400 dollar Markbass Vintage Pre Amp and totally fried the shit out of it, and there is no info on it anywhere online so not even the repair place I took it to can repair it. Never gonna make that mistake again. I literally can't afford to buy a new one

    Very informative video, thank you! Prior to your video I couldn’t tell the difference between an ohm and a watt. After viewing your video a few times I feel more confident. Just got “the DUDE” pedal, but it didn’t come with a power supply. It says “ 9v DC ONLY”, it’s center negative tip. Considering the D’Adarrio PW-CT-9v DC-800mA power supply. In your opinion do you think that’s a good match? Or would I expect to see the “white smoke of death”.

    Why are a few power supplies using a 12V adapter to plug into the wall instead of a 18V? I've ran across a couple like SanJune and Legato that do this. I'm afraid it would fry my pedal.

    Most pedals have pumps built into them 9 v supply and caps to store 18v

    I use a Voodoo lab mondo brick which has isolated ports and daisy chain 5 pedals that are all 9V, but they vary from center positive and negative polarities.
    I’ve heard that whatever the case is for the pedal, if plugged into an isolated power source, it’ll work fine.
    But since I have 5 pedals with different polarities all going to the same 9V isolated port, is that going to be a problem?

    I did with my voodoolab iso5 the 12V output on a 9V wah wah, and now it is making so much cranking noice. Is there a way ti fix the wah? I thought the pedal drowing only 9v from the 12 but i was little stupid, are pedals gone then or can be fixed?

    On clean/consistent power you recommend the powersupply - I experience quite a bit of noise when I hook up a couple of pedals to the computer (Ibanez M80M plugged into a Revvv G3 + Fortin Grind + Zuul into a focusrite with Nameless suite or even worse with my Tech 21 Trademark 10) - might a dirty powersupply be a factor in creating a high noisefloor?

    • @PlagueScytheStudios
      @PlagueScytheStudios  5 років тому +2

      The Grind has a low noise floor, but that doesn't stop it from creating a lot of high frequency hiss at higher levels. I imagine the G3 has some amp-like noise at higher gain levels as well. My suggestion would be to test your setup running on 9V batteries only. If it eliminates the problematic noise you experience, then look at isolated power supplies. Otherwise, the problem is inherent to the pedals.

      @@PlagueScytheStudios Ah, of course! Why did I not think of trying that? Thanks for the suggestion!

      The Guitar Pedal Shoppe in Boston, but you may just need some pot contact cleaner.
