I found if you use a liner then to kill off the weeds anything else under I use a strong weed and grass kill … so far nothing grows back for quite a few years …

Please stop using liners. It doesn't stop weeds & just adds plastic to the soil. Just put 6-10 inches of mulch right on the bare soil.
