I know I'm old, but I remember the "Puma Sisters" from "Dominion Tank Police"! Definitely an homage to that classic Masamune Shirow series!
Couple of other homages too. The lyric font is definitely an Evangelion reference.
The big floaty robot thing over a waterfront makes me think of Macross Plus, though can't be sure.

Also a metalhead but Gunship opened up the whole Synthwave genre for me. It refreshing now to be able to discover all these new artists and songs and a nice palette cleanser before going back to metal. 😁
@@davethurlow6677Yes, absolutely. Besides that, I've become somewhat more accepting of synths in metal - to a degree that is: guitars must remain dominant imho. And that has opened up new avenues for me: Scandinavian doom metal I find to be pretty palpable at times and I'm back into VH all of a sudden.
Hard same fellow "Metal Old". Gunship just kicks my ass, in the smoothest, silkiest way time and time again.

I think that maybe it's because Gunship manages to tap into a similar kind of excitement as when we finally were able to buy our very first record and played it on a second hand, scrubby record player for which we did all kinds of lousy jobs all summer to be able to buy that one. Or the first video game on an early game computer (mine was a ZX Spectrum). God, I miss that magic. And Gunship breathes the magic of that very era.

@@hannahg5216 Hmm, good question. One of my favorites from the late 70's was from a band called Yellow Magic Orchestra, the track is called "Firecracker". If you're into the futuristic stiff you can go way back to some of the pioneers of electronica, Kraftwerk and check out their catalogue of music from their earliest stuff. Also another great name in music is Giorgio Moroder, another pioneer of electronica, great track called "Chase". I came for the artwork. I stayed for the music. Wish I could hear everything perfectly like their older stuff. (Partially deaf now the words are hard to follow and alot of the layer of sounds are gone). Still good stuff, thankful for the subtitles :)
