Hey guys! A lot of you were asking for more videos of my trip to the UK, so I put them all in a playlist for you! Feel free to come along for the journey here! ua-cam.com/play/PL-KdG_p4Hp_ZzaMW73kNH7Fj5-CNExZjJ.html
Sorry i know this is 2 years old but can i ask why you didn't rent an automatic instead of a manual car so you could both share driving duties? Must have been hard for you doing all tbe driving?
Because at the time, an automatic was much more expensive to rent, and in addition to that, having a second driver was also much more expensive. So basically, renting the manual was the cheapest option (and I love driving anyway, so I don't really mind).
Caty, I love that you show us a map of where you travel for geographic context. I have been enjoying seeing the UK and Ireland with you. I can't wait to see more travel vlogs.
Haven’t seen the pets in so long! Ireland is so beautiful! It’s nice to see Blake and hear updates for the next chapter of your lives. I’m super excited for regular everyday vlogs! I’m also really excited to see what happens after Blake gets out. Also fun fact, I’ve been subscribed to your channel for two year this month!
Wow! Thank you so much for taking us along on your amazing adventure! I would have loved to just tag along with you!! I know you told us about your friend and how much traveling you two have done together and I think that's amazing. Such a different and rewarding thing to travel with your spouse sometimes and with a friend other times. Love these videos!!
I completely agree! I think traveling solo, with friends, and with a significant other all have their own benefits, and I love to dabble in all when I have the ability!
Also, a "Betws" in Welsh is derived from the old Anglo-Saxon "bet-hus", or bead-house. These were places of prayer in medieval times where the faithful would count their rosary beads when praying. Betws-y-Coed is therefore the Prayer House in the Woods.
As you're indulging my OCD I'll keep rolling. Your pronounciation of CAERNARFON was 95% good (pron : "KYRE-NAR-VON for you phonetics anoraks). Here's what it means. The name is made up of "CAER" (meaning a STONE structure signifying anything from a tiny dwelling to a castle/fortress), "YN" (meaning "in", shortened to just "N", presumably for convenience), and "ARFON", the name of an early medieval administrative unit in the old Welsh kingdom of Gwynedd. Gwynedd is now the regional county name. So therefore CAERNARFON means a "Fortress in Arfon". "CAER" is also the Welsh name for Chester as it is an old Roman stone-walled city. It is linguistically linked to the Scottish Gaelic word "CAIRN" which is a stack of stones used for a variety of purposes since prehistoric times. Both Welsh and Gaelic are Celtic origin languages. Presumably, a "CAER" was a fairly upmarket building in olden times when most dwellings would have been wooden wattle and daub construction. Have your eyes glazed over yet? I live in Conwy, the next medieval castle town some 23 miles east of Caernarfon.
My late father lived out his final decades by the bay on the Ring of Kerry. I scattered his ashes in the sea at Inch beach on the Dingle side. He often drove onto the beach to walk his dog & make a brew of tea. At 7.00 there is a clear view of Inch beach !
I've tracked a 4x grandfather back to Ireland. Grandfather was McGuire. Grandmother was Flanagan. You don't get much more Irish than that!! I hope to locate the county they were married in someday...
So - how tiring was it to drive from the ferry to Dingle and back toward KIllarney where you were staying for the night? I have a drive planned going from Adare thru Dingle, Slea Head and onto Portmagee in one day... this will happen in 2 weeks. I''m filled with dread
I think it depends on what kind of driving you're used to! I didn't think it was too bad, but I'm also pretty used to driving 6 hour chunks at a time here in the USA.
More boring info (I'm from North Wales). The "Pont-y-Pair" car park name is translated as "The Bridge (pont) over the Cauldron (pair). The water swirls and foams just under the bridge as there are rocks underneath the flow (allegedly resembling a boiling cauldron). Yes, it's that exciting. Finished now - you can go back to sleep. Hope you enjoyed my little homeland.
I know I am 18 months late but I have just recently found your videos. I think they are excellent tourist videos, far better than most. This one in particular is interesting to me as my sister lives on the Kerry coast, a place called Lauragh near Kenmare.
Weeellll we may or may not have actually filmed the real reunion this time. :( I ended up traveling for about 30 hours and didn't get to Vegas until about 2AM, and it was NOT cute. But there's a story in there, so I'll tell you guys about it when we get all caught up!
Living in then north but not having the chance to travel much so far its really interesting to see your reactions to everything. Note of interest the bread with your chowder looked kinda like wheaten bread- soda breads different and you should definately try it :)
The sheep thing about the Welsh is a bit of an 'in house' within the UK friendly banter. Its a bit too rude to be specific here but the best way to summarise is to use the cleaner reference.... "Wales, where men are men and sheep are nervous". I did the same Irish crossing many years ago and the weather was very stormy and I was sea sick the whole way, nursed by a very caring girl friend. We did the same touristy route that you did but I could have added a few other special places you didn't manage to get to. Great filming and editing, thanks.
Cant believe you didnt go to Portmeirion, its a stunning itallianate village where they filmed The Prisoner. You really missed out in a treat that eas literally on your doorstem on tbe Llyn Peninsula in North Wales
Yes, you pronounced wrongly, and I'm not Welsh, it is 'Bettus uh coid', the wood of Bettws in English. Interesting thing about the Dingle peninsula, is that it is the only part of Ireland that wasn't covered in the ice sheet in the last ice age!
Kudos to you ladies being able to drive a stick shift. Most people your age have never had to drive a stick. They have been spoiled by 99% of American cars and yes trucks that have auto transmissions.
Pet conference under the bed!!! Hi Blake!!! Lovely footage 💕Has Blake heard anything about his promising job lead? Sending great thoughts about him finding his perfect job :)
I need to go to bed. I was scrolling down to read comments when you said, "I think there's a pet under this bed" and was totally expecting there to be a pet sheep 😂😂😂😂😂
Bonjour Martine! Nous n'avons donc pas encore de mises à jour sur son travail, donc nous ne savons pas si ou quand nous déménagerons encore. Nous vous dirons quand nous savons!
The UK was imperial measurements (lbs, oz, miles, etc) until the early to mid 1970s. They kept most of the imperial measurements and introduced metric so you had both used on products in stores (so a bag of sugar would have 1K & 2lbs 3oz written on it), but the roads always stayed in MPH. Everyone in the UK who is over 45 grew up with imperial. 35-45 grew up with both and under 35s grew up with metric. It's pretty much all metric in stores now, but you'll still find imperial at some markets, butchers, etc.
Wait.. did you bring a FULL SIZED PC and monitor to edit vlogs while travelling? Would not a laptop be better? - AH NEVERMIND.. you were back home. got it.

Just found out I'm 35% Irish from Ancestry.com, the rest English, Netherlands, Italian and Greek. Proud to be Irish.
Ireland is Europe not uk

@@CulpFiction wow so even if your friend drove manual it would have been expensive to have 2 drivers regardless?

We absolutely LOVED the Dingle Peninsula! So scenic and beautiful. We heard the weather was bad in Ireland, but we had great weather for our trip too.
County Kerry is the sunny holiday destination in Ireland. In winter it can get pretty bleak but not as bad as the North.
Also, a "Betws" in Welsh is derived from the old Anglo-Saxon "bet-hus", or bead-house. These were places of prayer in medieval times where the faithful would count their rosary beads when praying. Betws-y-Coed is therefore the Prayer House in the Woods.
That was another amazing video. You covered a lot of territory and the scenery and cute towns were beautiful. Thank you again for sharing.
You're more than welcome! I'm just glad I filmed as much as I did!
How was Ireland!?! I wanna go some day! It looks beautiful! I'm so excited to see more videos!
It was so stunning! I wish I could have spent more time there, but it's just more of an excuse to go back!

You're in for a treat, I JUST uploaded another Ireland vlog! :D

Your doing a fantastic job with videos, really interesting ,love the music.
I'm looking forward to the vlog where you're reunited with Blake again after his deployment!

Just saw this was his last day of r&r :(
Yeah, unfortunately he's back at work at this point, but we had such a beautiful, relaxing time while he was on R&R!

@@CulpFiction yes you must its such an amazing place xx
as long as you and blake are safe. that is the main thing.
Love watching your videos!
You talking to the sheep made my day. 😂
There were so many that I got to talk to so many too haha!

Saaaame, girl, same.

Omg I wish 😂😂😂
Glad the weather was not baaaad.
I mean, sheep. That joke had to be made, haha.
Dad, go home.
Wait I’m confused.. how did your rental car went to mph instead of kilometers isn’t Europe always in kilometers??
NO! The UK, much to our surprise, is in miles. Blew my mind when I drove there.
I had no idea Ireland was different, thought they were miles like us.
glad to see Blake home. The invitation to go shoot is still open if interested
Better than Iowa windstorm. Just breathe over the next months, because your going to need to relax.
Are you planing on staying in Vegas or moving back to Washington.
We'd love to move back to WA if we get the chance! But it depends on the job situation first.
A great places for vacation
The "COED" part is pronounced "KOYD". Common error that most people make. Nothing to do with coeducational.
Wait.. did you bring a FULL SIZED PC and monitor to edit vlogs while travelling? Would not a laptop be better? - AH NEVERMIND.. you were back home. got it.
That's seriously like 4-5 days of beard for my husband 😂
Haha amazing!
The duo under the bed was so cute
Noel!!! Juniper!!! ❤️
Owls, eh. Hmm. The reason you don't know why they were there is that you were obliviated ...
