"Don't Let Me Down" was recorded in 1969 during the "Let It Be" sessions. The band recorded the song with keyboardist Billy Preston. The Beatles performed this song twice during their rooftop concert in January 1969.
Unfortunately Billy Preston was tucked away in a corner and is hardly seen in this footage. Luckily he can be heard loud and clear and anyone who watched the Peter Jackson "Get Back" film will attest to the re-vitalising effect his presence had on those sessions. R.I.P. Billy, George and John.
They played twice and, in this one, it seems that John did not remembered the words so he invented new ones which made them smile at each others ( george also bent over laughing). Then it seems they replaced the "bad" sound part with the "good"one . They have created these songs just a few days before and so they barely knew the words.

They recorded the album within weeks of writing the songs and most of the rooftop takes are on the album!!!👌👌👍👍✌✌😁😁 Enjoy the ride, every song, of well over 200 will consistently blow your mind!!!✌😁
You heard right Billy Preston was on keyboard you can briefly see him at 1:17 in your video in front of the policemen. Billy was also on their song "Get Back" and a few other songs on Abbey Road. This was last time the Beatles performed live and it was on the roof top of Apple Records in London so no audience per se. The police were there apparently to ask them to lower their volume.
This is a clip from the "Let It Be" movie the Beatles made. The performance is on a rooftop in what might be considered the "Wall Street" of London. The British bobbies (police with the funny hats) were on the roof attempting to shut the movie/concert down because it was "disturbing" the neighborhood. And it did; you might consider it the first "flash crowd." Virtually nobody knew it was going to happen.
Billy Preston is playing the keyboards, there was a shot of him early in the video sitting with two London Bobbies (Policemen) standing behind him. They have not performed this song hundreds of times, all the songs they sang on the rooftop, except for one, were written in the past couple of weeks during the rehearsal/recording sessions prior to this performance.
They never perfoimed this song live before. And it was just written days or weeks before this performance. Also John forget the words the first time they tried recording this on the roof. That's how new the song was. All the songs they performed on the roof were new.
They are smiling in that part bc John messed up the line and sang gibberish. They edited that out. They didn’t play this hundreds of times, but did rehearse it a few dozen. Performed, recorded and released as a live performance. The street was filled with people. Quite a crowd for this impromptu concert.
Billy Preston was playing keyboard, they only showed him for a few seconds early in the video. He was the 5th Beatle if you read up on them. He recorded with the Beatles and Rolling Stones.
They had discussed doing a live performance in different locations, such as the pyramids in Egypt among other places in the world. They couldn't agree, so they decided to go up to the roof and wing it there! Luckily they filmed it.
To see some live performances, watch the Ron Howard film, Eight Days a Week. It covers their US tours in the mid 60s. You could also watch the Anthology series which is the complete story of The Beatles and the Let It Be videos that came out about 18months ago. This song and this particular performance has such great significance and context as I’m sure others will tell you…all I’ll say is you need to see the entire rooftop concert and then you’ll see the audience and maybe more. Thanks for this reaction!

Being some 4 floors up on the roof and playing a fairly last minute set to a gathering uninformed crowd below was just a classic move. There’s full video of the show out there.
Yep Billy Preston on the piano, you can see glimpses in this video but they should have had a camera on him also. They were recording this live trying to get the best take on the album. This take is very close to what appears on Let it be. Three of the Roof Top Concert songs made the let it Be Album. I've got a Feeling, One after the 909 & Dig a Pony. You should do all three! Pretty amazing considering it was in the middle of winter & John complained that his fingers were cold. Note Ringo had his wife's red coat on.

Release date 1969, 7 years after first stepping into a recording studio. This was their last live performance, unannounced, performed on the roof of their office building in London. They started shortly after 12:30pm, so some people were in the streets on the way to get their lunches. Nearby businesses complained to the police about the noise and how people were causing traffic tie-ups, closing the street. The police came, the Beatles paused briefly to speak with them, and the police allowed them to finish another couple songs before shutting them down. This event was another iconic thing that the occasional band tried to replicate over the ensuing years, to various levels of success. Written by John Lennon as an anguished love song to Yoko Ono, it was interpreted by Paul McCartney as a "genuine plea", with Lennon saying to Ono, "I'm really stepping out of line on this one. I'm really just letting my vulnerability be seen, so you must not let me down." They had NOT played this song 'hundreds of times"; this rooftop concert was all new material they were soon to release, so no one but them had heard it before.

They where on the roof of the Apple offices( a Beatles company ) it was I believe the last time they played live ( someone will correct me if I'm wrong ) . What you do not see in the streets traffic comes to a stop thousands of people looking up wondering where the music's coming from . I think but not 100% sure it may have been about Yoko Ono who was sitting to the left John Lennon our right you just see her for a split second . That's why you see the police on the roof telling them them to shut the music down otherwise The Beatles will be arrested and of course the famous line from John Lennon I hope we passed the audition .Absolutely Great Times remember seeing on TV all those years ago when I was young and the future looked bright , now look were the hell we are today we're did it all go wrong ,

That is Billy Preston you hear on keys (the organ). Tensions were high during the filming of "Let It Be" and Preston was brought in to calm things down. It blows my mind that you are not familiar with any of this. The song was about Yoko who John recently left his wife for.
The Most Famous Concert in Rock History. The Concert on the roof of Apple Studios.. no they had just wrote this song.....and were working it out only a few days before...
The "piano" was the late great Billy Preston playing a Hammond organ; he was the only external musician who received credit on the songs hev plated on.
John's love song to his new love, Yoko Ono (notice the "asian-esque" chords after each line of the chorus). I think this was the last time the band played together before they broke up (might be wrong, but I'm close).

You can just see Billy Preston in the background in some shots of Paul. John Lennon had seen the police on the roof, which is why he was laughing. The police had received complaints about the noise, and were there to shut them down.
Thank you for sharing this magical live and song. Great to hear your sensitive comments on this. Congratulations for your work and talent, mate 👍☀️🔥🎸🎉🎉
"She done me good" -- oral sex. Around this time a gallery exhibit in London of John's drawings of his relationship with Yoko was busted for obscenity. That why George, John, and Paul were grinning during those lines.

Paul and John were laughing together because on the previous take of the song John forgot the lyrics and improvised a fake foreign language. That video is also on line.
the piano your hearing is played by Billy Preston in the back. he gave don't let me down and I've got a feeling such an iconic sound. the reason they are smiling is because John forgot the words in the first take so they have to do the second take to cut the real verse 3 vocals. John was such a funny guy half the times he was not concentrating enough, you can see the same thing in Ticket to Ride song video it's amazing to think of how many great songs that he have done! when i see him, it seems to me he was not as detail focused and hard working as Paul.
Yeah, you see Billy for a second or two. You don't really notice him because you don't see the keys on the keyboard. I also like the way the crowds start climbing the other building to get a glimpse.
It was young Billy Preston on keys .. They had recruited him in the studio and it was an immediate match ... You see him early in the clip,.. This playing on the studio roof was their first outing after years of studio work no live ,,, The plan was, this first live was to be the prelude to them touring again...Of course, after so much studio multi-track work there would have to be extra musicians,, Billy Preston was their first choice, , Unfortunately, things fell apart and more live work did not happen ...Very nearly once or twice but no,, On studio tracks you can hear Paul, John and George Martin as well as Billy Preston on piano,
You should hear a version of this song by Bad Company. Guaranteed to knock your socks off. Along with many other songs such as Silver, Blue and Gold, Seagull, this band would have you doing that little couch dance you do. Trust me. I may be 66 years old now but I attended my fair share of concerts. Have you ever listened to Jethro Tull do Locomotive Breath? Another classic that never gets old. Just sayin! I like seeing you do your couch dance. I watched your reaction to Boston More Than a Feelin and really enjoyed it.
my first time seeing a "dont let me down" reaction by a guy with a 2XL size costco/sams club comically large mayo at a 45 degree angle on top of his couch.
You made the comment did you hear piano and yes you do hear electric piano and that is by the "Fifth Beatle" Billy Preston. Unfortunately this particular combination of footage doesn't really show him much although you catch a couple glimpses. I believe he is wearing an orange jumpsuit. But yeah he was crucial to that sound and he was so awesome and he went on to have an incredible solo career and worked with so many different important artists It's funny that you haven't commented yet on all the cops coming up onto the roof and they've been charged with breaking it up but they just can't bring themselves to do it, laugh.
Right around the four minute and 15 second work, you commented that you're definitely hearing piano now and you can go there, and look and Billy Preston is in a red jumpsuit just to the right and then the left John Lennon, but yeah it's just a glimpse and that really annoys me about this. Because I've seen other footage that shows him up there playing with them it's just whatever they put together for this recently when they did that documentary about the rooftop concert in the late sixties before they broke up and people hadn't seen them play live in forever. And it was a surprise concert they didn't even promote it and then they're all the people on the streets below slowly realizing oh my God that's the Beatles! It's truly an epic historic event. But yeah, I wish they would have included Billy Preston a lot more.
we can see Billy Preston ( the keyboards ) few time but very quick ..... is on the right back of mccartney ..... try get back , also live on the rooftop
The Beatles said there is a jar of Mayonnaise sitting on the back of your chair by the way in this video ....But that's OK John lennon loves Mayonnaise.

This playing on the studio roof was their first outing after years of studio work no live ,,, The plan was, this first live was to be the prelude to them touring again...Of course, after so much studio multi-track work there would have to be extra musicians,, Billy Preston was their first choice, , Unfortunately, things fell apart and more live work did not happen ...Very nearly once or twice but no,, On studio tracks you can hear Paul, John and George Martin as well as Billy Preston on piano,
This was the last time they performed together. And it was on the roof of their Apple headquarters building.
There is no band like the Beatles, actually no band even close.
The amazing keyboard is non other then the great Billy Preston known as the 5th Beatle
Billy Preston!!!! The fifth beatle❤❤❤
Come one....Billie F... Preston flying with THE Beatles ( look behind Paul) Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy
The fur coats belonged to the wives. It was January 30, 1969. 54 years ago today.
The best shot of Billy Preston is when the camera focuses on the two police officers.
my first time seeing a "dont let me down" reaction by a guy with a 2XL size costco/sams club comically large mayo at a 45 degree angle on top of his couch.
You made the comment did you hear piano and yes you do hear electric piano and that is by the "Fifth Beatle" Billy Preston. Unfortunately this particular combination of footage doesn't really show him much although you catch a couple glimpses. I believe he is wearing an orange jumpsuit.
But yeah he was crucial to that sound and he was so awesome and he went on to have an incredible solo career and worked with so many different important artists
It's funny that you haven't commented yet on all the cops coming up onto the roof and they've been charged with breaking it up but they just can't bring themselves to do it, laugh.
Great review lad
One After 909 is another rooftop song that you'll love
The song is about Yoko. She can be seen sitting in a chair near George Harrison.
Billy Preston on piano just to the right of Paul.
Billy Preston on the keyboards...They used him often in the later years
This was their last performance together. There was a lot of people down on the streets
Yes Michael it's Billy Preston on piano if you look to the left of Paul towards and at the end you will just about see him
many people, practically shut down that section of London Watch the rooftop concert
keyboard behind Paul
They show 1 shot of the piano player. I believe it was the great Billy Preston 💚 (might he wrong about that).
he is at 1:17 and again at 4:08
it was cold on the roof top and the boys except for paul borrowed their girlfriends coats
we can see Billy Preston ( the keyboards ) few time but very quick ..... is on the right back of mccartney ..... try get back , also live on the rooftop
He’s singing for Yoko .
Billy Preston was playing keyboards off camera.
Billy Preston on piano
Best live performance since Beethoven's 5th.
The Beatles said there is a jar of Mayonnaise sitting on the back of your chair by the way in this video ....But that's OK John lennon loves Mayonnaise.
It was hard to see, but Billy Preston was on piano to the left of McCartney.
