    Bought an On One Inbred frame and some remaining parts last year, third hand at least. Probably dating from 2003. Last owner took it on a trip from the North Cape to the south of Portugal with a trailer carrying a surfboard and the whole contraption weighed 85 kilograms. It was a bit warped but no problem. Buy a 10 mm metal threaded rod, insert in the back wheel with 4 nuts securing it to the dropouts on both sides, put the bottom bracket in a vice and bend it back. Take it slow and easy, use a string around the head tube through the dropouts to measure if you are straight again. Eyeball the derailleur hanger and straighten it and you are good to go. Rebuilt it with mostly used parts, had it powder coated racing green with two layers of clear coat and it’s as good as new. Or better painted anyway. Build was under 800 euros including a ridiculous expensive handlebar which is 20% of the cost. I just received your green ‘save old bikes’ sticker which really made it so much nicer in combination with the original head tube badge. Still available at Planet X. Then I saw this build tonight and if you can find an inbred, it’s a dream to ride. A rare find in the Netherlands so I guess I was lucky. Keep on saving those old bikes!

    I love these bikes. I had an inbreed for 5 years and everyday I regret selling it.
    Mine was a 26 with 1x9 drivetrain, crossmax slr and a PACE 100-120 carbon suspension fork.
    I loved to see This vídeo!

    I did exactly the same with my dropper post lever. I hated the vertical movement with the angled metal guide tube. I bought the one that works horizontally, and I love it. Looks, ergonomics and function are all perfect. Nice build, keep them coming. Mark

    Saw a patch one time that said, 'UA-cam Certified Bike Mechanic'. Can't remember where but that pretty much sums up my skills. I watched a video once where they used a long socket to hammer the star nut into a steerer tube, might have been Spindat.

    I've always wanted a 456, too....this is a brilliant build.
    I'm so glad i found your channel; there's a lot of components available in the UK that we cannot get over here....finding a fork with a straight 1.125" steerer is almost impossible now, except for rim-brake only ones of the lowest quality. So, I wanna get an Air Bike fork, but is it just me or is the crown race seat kind of funny on those?

  • @sisterfixit4017
    @sisterfixit4017 Рік тому

    If you just need to chase the threads on the bottom bracket you can use an old square taper cup and cut a notch half way through and use it to clean them like you did with the derailleur hanger.

    Watching this after seeing your year-end wrap up. Maybe you'd ride it more if you'd taken a marker to it or covered it in stickers!
    But seriously: it looks like a gorgeous bike, but if it doesn't suit you in the end, no need to beat yourself up about that.

    Owned a few inbred frames over the years in 26 and 29 options and a couple of 456 too in the pre evo days. Loved my raw 456 with coil u-turn pikes - even took it to the alps one summer.
    29er inbreds make good bikepacking/touring frames with rigid forks, but every one with sliding drop outs had issues in that the brake mounts were only about half of the length of the axle drop out and brakes needed washers to space caliper further out.

    I use a Phillips 1 screwdriver* to seat my star nuts, its much easier to get it straight and you don't hammer on the threads so you can't damage the star-not or bolt.
    * The shaft has to fit through the star-nut obvs and the end of the handle has to be narrow enough to fit inside the steerer and not load the wings of the star-nut, in my experience a PH1 is usually the best bet or a PH2 for BMX style hollow bolt star-nuts.

    Hi, new subscriber here. I managed to buy On one 456 Evo II Summer season frame (NOS) 1 year ago and it has been waiting for to be build ever since, mainly because of lack of suitable fork. After watching your video I came to conclusion that maybe Air Bike fork could be an option, at least price seems to be reasonable. Most likely you´ve been riding on this bike after the video, so any thoughts about quality of fork?

    • @2NDLIFEBIKES
      @2NDLIFEBIKES  11 місяців тому

      The air bike fork is fine and dose the job. But it’s nothing to write home about. The I’d say it’s a good between option to get the bike rolling and you could upgrade in the future but it’s not a replacement for a decent fork.
      A second option could be a suntour fork. They have some great mid range forks now. Seth did a video on them for Berm Peak. I’d check that out.
