@@bharp4390 yes, most probably. He wasn't at his best that night. But It doesn't change the fact that he was Great and far better than any other, for example Maggiera, who was mediocre, artistically speaking above all... His sound and touch, just horrible. This kind of "details" many times are "ignored" by the singers..., but not for everyone. I mean... You are right. Wustman rushed at times that night... But in Liszt Soneto He was incredible. Both were more than incredible in that piece, the most difficult by far in that recital (in general terms). Finally... The Sound (orchestral sound) that he produced Always at the piano...deserves admiration. A very rare talent. These kind of things many times are not appreciated at all by the singers, who very often prefer just mediocre accompanist without any artistic or pianistic imagination. Very sad...
WHAT a masterpiece of singing. The piano player had really trouble to follow the untypical metric of Pavarotti´s climaxes.
Bravo

E lucevan le stelle
E olezzava la terra
Stridea l'uscio dell'orto
E un passo sfiorava la rena
Entrava ella fragrante
Mi cadea fra le braccia
O dolci baci, o languide carezze
Mentr'io fremente
Le belle forme disciogliea dai veli
Svanì per sempre il sogno mio d'amore
L'ora è fuggita, e muoio disperato

Too bad the pianist fucks up the timing so much and rushes pav
The "pianist" is, in fact, the gratest Pianist (and accompanist) with whom Pavarotti sung ever...
@@gabrielgabriel8096 He may have been. That does not change the fact that, in this performance, the pianist rushes Pavarotti at multiple points.

@@gabrielgabriel8096 I do not doubt anything you write. I admit my original comment comes off a little bit sharp, and I apologize for that.
In Buddy Rich´s big band this piano player would have been fired that evening 😁
