I have a turkey ,saved from being a Christmas dinner when she was around 9 months old, she is now nearly 9 years old ,a bit stiff but she still enjoys life with her chicken friends . 19/04/23 She's still alive and eating well ,i checked her birth date and it was 2011 ,so she's 12.
That’s amazing! What’s her name?
Birds are great, they are why I went Vegan long ago no 🐟🐠 too
Seeing 🙈 FACTORY Farm videos made me give up all animal products
Sweet story!
Very similar to our rescue chicken that lived over 11yrs. She was supposed to be for a soup, but when my father brought her home to kill, I grabbed her and locked myself in the bathroom until my fuming mom promised to spare her life. The whole family loved Henny Penny 🐔
When I was younger, my grandparents bought a live turkey for Thanksgiving, but when it came time to harvest, my grandmother cried, and she couldn't do it. She instead named it Herbert, and Herbert lived on her farm for years. Lol Man, I miss that woman.
Wow that's pretty wholesome is Herbert still alive?
I love your story, made me smile, thank you. Herbert is a great name for a Turkey.
@@bruh-104 Unfortunately not, but he did live on her farm for about 10-11 years.

Indeed, its interesting.
Same story for my brother. Bought two turkey chicks for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The turkeys used to walk up the hill to his house when he and my sister-in-law would be sitting on the porch. The birds would chuckle and cluck and then hop up on their laps so nestle down for a nap. Needless to say, they both died of old age.
I learned so much about turkeys through this video. Didn’t know they could retract the hanging skin on their face, neither did I know they could change color.
Same..
Right! I’m a huge animal person & I had no idea. I don’t really eat meat but when I do it’s Turkey or chicken haven’t had either in awhile and after this video I will not be partaking again- ever. I love this ladies energy and attitude what an amazing human and Turkey being😉

Well I hope she reads this- my family has turkey hunters in it. They all vowed that they will never turkey hunt again. We all thought Turkeys were unintelligent. The Canadian turkeys thank you- I’m sharing this with everyone. It has touched my family’s hearts.
this isn't her channel im confused, are the people who made this channel a she and that's why u said that? Maybe comment on her instagram
Intelligence should never be what determines your treatment of a being to begin with. ethical consideration is based on the capacity to feel pain (sentience) not intelligence, Which Happens to be why intelligent people aren't automatically ethically superior to less intelligent people
Turkeys and other vertebrates, as well as octopi and such are all sentient
@@lil_weasel219 you’re so so so right. Empathy shouldn’t be conditional. I couldn’t agree more
honestly at least hunting is humane. It's farming that's truly cruel, where the animals are born and raised in horrible conditions and are killed slowly. Hunting involves quickly killing an animal that lived its life free and happy, so it's much more humane, in my eyes.
@@botanicalitus4194 you’re right. Factory farming is horrific. If animals could speak we would all sob.
Rose thank you so much for sharing your story. When I was a young girl, my father used to raise turkeys, and we had a hen that wouldn’t sit on her eggs so being in the sixth grade and studying science, I decided to bring the eggs inside and hatch them. There was only one that hatched, and it was a gobbler. I raised the gobbler till he was full grown. He was the most loving, precious pet that I have ever had. He would come and sit in my lap, nestling his beak under my arm. He would follow me around in the yard, he was very smart. Unfortunately my father decided to stop raising turkeys gave sold them. I was devastated. I missed and loved him so much. The man who bought the turkeys from my Dad called him back several weeks later and told him he had one that he thought was sick. He said it was a gobbler and that he just laid around in the corner or the pen and wouldn’t eat or drink. When we went to his farm, we had discovered that it was my Mr. gobbler. He was grieving himself to death for me. I begged daddy to please let me bring him back home, he did, but unfortunately he had let him go to long before we knew what was happening and I lots my little buddy. Every since then I have had a strong connect with birds. They are truly beautiful creatures from God, many do not ever get to see that side of them. It is amazing, and I will never forget him. 😊❤
I think that’s the saddest story I’ve ever read. I’m so sorry.
That’s so sad, I couldn’t imagine loosing my precious little Turkey hen 😔
It is incredible to see how all animals (wild and domesticated) thrive when they are truly loved. And how much more they give us.

Its such a shame that food animals are bred to gain large amount of weight quickly. Their own weight can smother them. He is living such a good life....that's awesome
It's such a shame that people support carnism. Humans are inherently frugivores, which is provable, anatomically and physiologically. Causing harm to fellow sentient beings is immoral. (Universal Law/Karma). We reap what we sow. Current day is a reflection of how off course we've allowed ourselves to be led, spiritually by those few that benefit immeasurably by our acquiescence to the moral relativism social programming who see themselves top of the food chain and refer to humans as "cattle". Now, that's; a shame. To those that are missing it, we are at a spiritual crossroads. Do No Harm. Separateness is an illusion.

Fun fact, before going to people's dishes pigs can live 3 years, if they were not killed they could live around 20 years...they are also super smart (very close to cetaceans, just above them) and sensitive, fantastic pets, and their skin and some organs are very similar to humans, but people know already that. (edit) I'm not reading the comments, because with 25 answers I'm sure there is going to be the usual dude saying "you forgot to say tasty" or an angry one because I tried to ruin for them eating pig, that yes, fair enough, I do, I tried, because they are just huge victims of us. I also like to mention they are one of the most used animals to do experiments and body transplants because as I said before, we share very similar parts of our bodies. That's such a big reason I decided not to pursue a career in cosmetology after getting my license. There's nothing wrong with playing around with your appearance - I absolutely love wearing makeup and am going to paint my nails in a few minutes here haha - but we make money preying on the insecure and telling people (mostly women) how to look and what to do to be considered beautiful. Not only is it ridiculous, but there are WAY more things in life that are WAY more important than looking beautiful. My fondest memories of school are when the lonely elderly clients would sit in my chair and chitchat with me for an hour after I finished their hair. That's what kept me going long enough to finish school since I was almost done by the time I realized what a frankly corrupt industry it is.

The meat and dairy industry mostly does just look at them as commodities or things. When I was 8 yrs. old, I lived on a farm and we always had calves (baby cows). I was surprised at how each had their own unique personality. In the evening, I would play kind of a game of tag with them - we would run back and forth. I would chase one and when I caught up, place my hand on them, then, they would chase me and nudge with their nose. Even though everyone in my family were big on eating meat, it was at that age that I just couldn't anymore, and became a vegetarian. On the farm, they did kill a lot of animals. I was pretty powerless to stop it but it did leave a very lasting impression.

Turkeys are such amazing creatures! I bonded with one named Allie that someone had as a pet. So smart!
Every time I’m out and hear someone order a turkey sandwich, I cringe. I feel disgusted. I want to say, that’s an incredible companion you’re eating with so much care, thought, and deep emotions 🥹😰😰
True of most animals people eat. They feel, they care, they want to live.
@@peskycritter79 I agree. I will never eat an animal.
You must cry a River every thanksgiving
@@kiloton1920 well it’s pretty sad yeah
I don't. It's the way of life. Do you cringe when you see a lion eat a deer? When a snake eats a rabbit?
Some animals will even torture their prey. Just because you've assigned human principles to a chicken doesn't mean everyone else will.
If you don't want to eat meat, don't, but be aware that if it came down to starvation or eating you, an animal wouldn't hesitate (Non-Herbivores). They'd cannibalize their own cubs.
I lost it when she said “are u ready for your anti inflammatory smoothie” so cute
Ha! He was a moody teenager for two weeks just like us humans 🤣❤️
I hope a lot of people watch this video today and don't eat them tomorrow (Thanksgiving). Our family is vegetarian for this very reason. All animals have a SOUL and deserve to live happy lives. ❤️🙏
What a beautiful story! Thank you for sharing!❤🦃❤
He's beautiful and was lucky to find you. There should be more people in this world like this woman. I remember seeing a video of turkeys that were being mistreated at a factory farm. When one was intentionally killed by a worker a few turkeys tried to come to help him but it was dead and then they got stomped on by the worker. I stopped eating turkey and other meats after I saw such cruelty, miserable life, suffering, filth and ultimately inhumane death.
That is beyond upsetting. U just brought a tear to my eye w that story. I hope that “ man” has the most miserable life. I hate him so much after reading this and I’m sending evil vibes his way. I hear u w the meat thing. I eat WAY less and I will phase out eventually. Ugh what a horrible story :( those poor things!!
@@lsimon343 If you want to make these bad people who kill animals suffer, don't give them ANY of your money. Because what Lou described is the unfortunate reality for many animals that are farmed for food. Also, the people who do the killing are often psychologically traumatized, too. So not buying meat, dairy, eggs, and other animal products is a way of saying "no" to the mistreatment of humans and animals. I did it 7.5 years ago, and it changed my life. I can't recommend it enough.
This is absolutely heartbreaking and reminds me of a video on chickens being mistreated at a farm. I have always intended not to eat meat since I was in my late twenties and if I had my way I would not eat any animals. Unfortunately I am not at a place where I am independent and seems like everyone I know refuses to eat vegetables like a salad and soup. I don't even like the feeling of meat in my mouth don't like the smell of it either but I'm not under my own roof.
Thank you for not eating animals
@@lsimon343 A lot of people cut back on beef and eat "white" meat. I'm the opposite. I avoid chicken since they're treated sooo badly in factory farms while cattle still get to live a relatively natural life on the range. (only because grass is free, of course). I also pay a bit more for free range eggs and eggs are my main protein. Free range is also healthier (if it isn't a cheat) since the chickens eat a more varied natural diet outside.
My two chickens lived for 12 years taking vitamins, walks and good food, lots of love and cuddles. I miss them so much, they were such lovely pets!
Did they taste good after? I’d imagine the nutrients help
Wow I had no idea they could live that long! As an animal lover and non meat eater you’d think i would know more about these amazing creatures
I hope he carries on for a very long time, that was so beautiful thank you so much for sharing your lovely story!❤😊
I just read on his Instagram he passed away in her arms April 17. He was cuddling with her and just fell asleep forever. At least he got to pass surrounded by love. 💔
I love how much thought and appreciation is given to this bird. You’re learning and reflecting from it, whereas humans can’t even do that with one another. Love this.
What a singularly lovely woman.
I can't think of a better way to start my mornings than with a smile given to me by the staff at GeoBeats, who work hard to find and compile all these wonderful stories of human and animal bonding. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
I second the motion!

Fourthed. You help people with these animal videos. I'm confined to bed as I'm chronically ill and sometimes when I'm struggling, being here on your channel comforts me and brings my heart peace. You remind me of the good things in the world outside my room. Thank you 💝
Uri has been given all she needs and loves! You!! Thank you for the dignity and compassion you freely gave!!
Rearing a fledgeling Raven. What an awesome journey so far. Blessed to have him in our lives.
We also rescued a turkey chick... named him Tom the Turkey. He lived a lil over a year, but he grew so massive he broke his own leg, and we had to put him down. Turkeys are bred to grow at such a fast rate they cant sustain their own bone structure beyond a year. We loved Tom, and we all were devastated when we had to put him to sleep. We never bought a turkey since.
heritage breed turkeys aren't like that. they are not bred to grow large and grow rapidly. its just the factory farm breeds (which generally have all white plumage.) heritage breeds do not require artificial reproduction. their weight does not harm their skeleton and heart except normal wear and tear just like the rest of us. and heritage breed turkey are even more intelligent than the factory farm ones. this is because the factory farm ones are bred to be docile. that is not saying heritage breeds are not as friendly as the factory farm breeds.
@@jerryadams6799 Honestly, I think the farm & supply store sold us turkey chicks to be slaughtered, not to be kept.
@@THEvagabond29 usually farms store just have the meat turkeys. To get a heritage breed you need to deal with the hatchery or a farmer that has some. the hatcheries aren't bad but usually there is a minimum so the babies can stay warm in shipping. it is perfectly safe. they don't need to eat or drink for their first three days owing to them internalizing the yolk just before hatching. and actually the USPS and other couriers seem not to abuse the packages with breathing holes and cheeping noises coming out of it. Not as often as other packages. but if you can't house 8 birds (for example) the hatchery may not be the way to go. you could also get hatching eggs sent to you if you have an incubator. that can avoid mailing minimums and hatching the eggs is entertaining too.
I just learned about different turkey head floppy things, and what they mean. That's amazing!
This just made me cry of pure joy. For the both of you. What an amazingly honest and beautiful bird he is. Not being able to hide your mood like that should be a feature on humans too.
He's a gorgeous boy with such character ,glad he's having a good life
What a amazing thing to see. People forget that these birds have feelings and that they have the capacity for love just as we do as all living creatures do. What a beautiful bond they have.
Which is part of the reason I became a vegetarian. When I see two cow's rubbing each other exchanging affection, I know they have feelings.
He is absolutely Beautiful and so are You 💗❤️💗
God Bless Your Loving Heart ⚘️
He tries to wear her shoes that is just so funny & cute omg what a fun personality he has! Very interesting animal.
I learned so much about turkeys they will have a life long impression. Thank you so much for telling us about them!
