I love the old wood hand carved look. My grandmothers house in YORK MAINE some of the house is over 300 years old and you can see the original wood beams and the wood pegs to hold them together. You can still see some of the original horse hair plaster on the ceiling. Love the look a lot

They really make you feel part of their family and industry... The are second to NONE! God Bless y’all for everything you do! As a vet I greatly appreciate the respect, camaraderie, and hard work they do everyday...if I’m having a rough day all i have to is put them on and instantly get taken away into their world and feel almost like I’m back in the service (ARMY). Heavy D and Diesel Dan are my role models. If ever get the chance to meet them i would probably s@#t myself lol, seriously. They are truly one of a kind! I would love to just volunteer for them for at least one day! It would truly be an honor and a blessing! Thank you for everything y’all do! You guys are a miracle...

just started watching your videos, really dig all of the stuff yall are into..I'm a 76 yo retired sign painter and mural artist, (sign painters don't exist anymore) that being said, over 60 years I have created many signs and displays using naturally weathered or feux (fake) distressed wood....I always kept a a junk box of scrap metal objects (screws, nails, etc.) and dumped them on the wood, then hammered them in, just a suggestion for a variety of outcomes.....Rave On !

In the UK we sandblast beams like that to get rid of the old crap.
When Windsor Castle caught fire and they lost a wing, the beams where carefully taken out and sandblasted and it revealed that, under the outside 1/2" that had charred, the rest was good as new. Oak particularly gets harder with age adn two guys I knew who restored churches said they hated working on 900 year old oak as its literally as hard as iron and they blunted lots of diamond tools working it. So, be glad of your youthful buildings in America! :o)

We met two years ago heavy D at SLC airplane. It was crazy too I had a dream of our before and I knew I was going to meet you and I did! Sadly it was when I was going to Phoenix to say good bye to my mom forever and I was 21 at the time. Now I’m 23 taking care of my two siblings, going full time in school USU, and just trying to work full hours and study for finals for Christmas gifts. That’s all I care about now is the hours for the gifts to them. I don’t mind because I will be getting smiles and help my dad. I still got that photo when we met but I was a mess from crying because we lost our mom. I regret it because I was a once in a lifetime to meet you!

Fun Fact: Trees closer to the Equator tend to have straighter grain which is why the big tropical hardwoods were so heavily harvested. They didn't twist. The farther you go from the equator, the more the trees twist. The idea is that in the Northern Hemisphere, southern faces of trees get the most sunlight and thus grow more. The tree naturally twists as it grows, to balance itself out. In the Southern Hemisphere the effect is reversed. This doesn't always hold true as local weather can have a much greater effect, such as wind. You'll see gnarly old Mesquite trees in Texas and New Mexico that grow every which way. Manzanitas in California do whatever the hell they want.
But it makes for interesting, beautiful grain. Western lumber is the most stunning. Sure, walnut and maple from back east are nice and plentiful, but the dry climates of the western states make the most interesting grain and pretty colors.

Accent Mark's are a ton fast with a grinder with a metal blade. Tons faster. Take those beams outside and pressure wash them with a 4000psi pressure washer, then hit them with a sander. Then hit them with a dark brown spray paint in the low spots. Then sand again. Exposes all the grain but keeps them smooth and soft

The rings represent growing seasons. Usually a year but sometimes more. You can see this in christmas trees. They know the years of growth in a field of trees but often find more rings than years of growth.
