    Hi Cliff
I recently found your UA-cam videos about hearing aids. I am a pediatrician in New Jersey and have had a moderate hearing loss in my left ear. My previous hearing aids include Sharkey's and Oticon. The trouble with these hearing aids were I could not use a stethoscope in my practice every day having those hearing aids in my ears. I would only use them on weekends and parties where I needed extra help in noisy environments. I recently purchased the Lexie B2 hearing aids from the company directly. I even purchased a size 3 ear hook cause my previous hearing aids with always pop out. I am able to use these hearing aids in my office due to the thinness of the ear hook and an open dome which provide satisfactory stethoscope experience. They are not perfect of course but I am able to wear them every day which is something I couldn't do for the past 15 years. Keep up the good work with your videos.
    Thanks
    Stuart Goldman MD

Doctor Cliff is a valuable resource for good objective information. Anyone in need of hearing aids (which means MOST senior citizens) should watch several of his videos before deciding to spend several thousand dollars on any hearing device. He really isn't trying to sell you anything. He is just providing as much objective information as he can so you can make an informed decision for yourself. His videos should be getting more views, based on how informative they are, but this just tells you he is spending most of his time serving his clients and not trying to be a UA-cam income guy. I'm glad I found his channel, because it really helped me find the best device for me.

Thank you Dr. Cliff for posting this review. I watched it 3 times and ended up trying the Lexie B2s as a replacement for my prescription ReSound Linx Quattros that I've had for 3 years. All of my adjustments to the B2s are by trial and error, and I cannot say that they perform any better than the ReSounds, but they are not any worse either. My only complaints about the B2s are feedback (with closed dome) when I get my hands anywhere near my ears and at higher volume levels. The biggest complaint I have though is with the app. Every time I go to make a change I have to wait for the app to connect to the HAs and sometimes it takes several tries to get them to connect. If I don't have internet available (i.e. cell phone service), it will not connect to them at all.

  • @bobbartlett3073
    @bobbartlett3073 Рік тому +6

If you buy the B2s In a retail environment i.e. Walmart instead of ordering them directly from Lexie, to get the “free longer wires” they charge a $10 shipping charge, and after wearing them with the number 2 wire (that comes installed) it was pressing onto the top of my ear. So far the performance is very good.

    Hi Dr Cliff,
Thank you very much for this review. I’m considering this one since my prescription Phonak hearing aid is driving me up the walls, but I had two questions:
    1. Do these ones sit loosely in your ear like iPhone earbuds? My custom-built one goes all the way inside my ear canal and results in earwax build-up/production and itching since ear surgery.
Much more importantly: how advanced are the treble and bass settings in the app? Phonak only has three/four options, which is totally ridiculous. I am looking for a kind of volume slider that allows you to really carefully adjust treble and bass, so not just: it’s either this or this. My hearing loss is extremely mild and I would only use hearing aids for music.
    Thank you!

Thanks Cliff!! I used to use the Bose Hearphones and loved the quality until they died and were discontinued, but also have 5 year old Phonak prescriptions- this was both before AND after I had two stapedectomies which did not improve my hearing (you can ask who did those surgeries if you want). My question- what is the difference in TECHNOLOGY for mild to moderate loss aids like these, and audiologist-fitted aids like my phonaks? I'm due for a new set since I literally lost one while on vacation in Europe so need to make some decisions. Thanks for your vids

I'm currently analyzing these hearing aids from Bose/Lexie and I'm pretty impressed, especially after your very thoughtful analysis. They weren't working until I put the closed domes in. Now, I'm listening to Bluetooth music from my iPhone 12 and it sounds amazing. BTW, I have moderate to severe loss as tested by Connect Hearing last week. I also have the Costco testing from last year and they are remarkably similar. I'm trying to figure out if these Bose will work. If not, I'll proceed to the Costco prescription hearing aids. The people at Connect Hearing were ridiculous. I have $2000 available from my health insurance only for prescription hearing aids, and the figure they quoted to me for the Phonak Lumity 30 was : $3100 without my insurance and $3750 with my insurance ($1750 out of pocket instead of the expected $1100 out-of-pocket). If I have $2000 from my insurance company, why would using insurance cost me $650 more than not using the insurance? Seems like a racket unfortunately. Best to go to Costco and find the best technician in my area. Thank you so much for such a thoughtful analysis.

I was considering what hearing aid I would buy to replace the Lexie B1 aids that I've been wearing since they came on the market. Well your report convinced me to change out the open domes for closed domes and I was astonished by the difference. It's like a totally different hearing aid. Most of my feedback issues disappeared and I'm able to lower the volume setting.
Thanks so much - I will get some more miles out my Lexie B1's before looking for the next aid.

I guess including something like a standard 31-band graphic equalizer accessed thru the app would make them too big, right?
As a reinforcement sound engineer, I always wanted to let someone with moderate hearing loss listen to some music recorded with a standard or flattened eq curve, over some first rate headphones, and just let them play with the sliders, relying completely on their taste. I suspect they would arrive at a curve that was a composite of loss compensation and personal taste, but people with strong feelings about music; balance, mix, dynamics, etc. would take longer, and want to hear a greater variety of samples, but in the end, they would arrive at a result much closer to one arrived at completely by measurements. Otherwise, they would say it was like putting on their glasses, or turning on a better light, or getting their camera in focus.

I hated the B1s. The app was virtually useless, I got feedback in a lot of situations, even when putting them on the lowest volume. I had to take them off if I was in range of a microwave or similar high-pitched appliance. The volume slider didn't seem responsive, and the treble-bass slider seemed to somewhat function. If you don't happen to have REM capabilities, you're just guessing at what settings you need. I think I had the volume vs treble adjustments swapped, but would I have known? Customer support was no help. They told me they did have a test I could take--the online one that doesn't help me set the devices at all. The B1s helped a bit at work but that's the best I can say about them. It's cool that technically they could meet the needs of someone with mild to moderate hearing but I'd never recommend them to a typical consumer
I returned them and got the Jabra enhance select 100s which I love. They're actually customized to a hearing test I took online, worked for me out of the box. Had issues connecting the first time but it was fine after. I haven't even had my first appointment and I'm quite satisfied, plus I have streaming (fussy, but that's an Android issue). Twice the price but I'm so relieved I could afford them

Having tried the B2s, I think I can answer that. There is no way for the user to program each ear individually, but there is a "balance" control that lets you make one ear louder than the other. You set the world volume and treble/bass controls for both ears, and then you can use the balance control to make one ear louder than the other.
