  • The Concept and History of Conservatism | Introduction to Political Theory | Dr. Taimur Rahman
In the eleventh episode of the "Introduction to Political Theory" series, Dr. Taimur Rahman examines the concept and historical development of conservatism, a political ideology rooted in the defense of tradition and established order. This video traces its origins in opposition to the French Revolution and its evolution into a contemporary force in politics.
Dr. Rahman discusses the writings of influential thinkers such as Joseph de Maistre and Edmund Burke, who critiqued revolutionary ideals and emphasized the importance of tradition, hierarchy, and gradual change. The video also explores how conservatism has adapted to modern contexts, balancing its core principles with the challenges of contemporary political and social transformations.
    📌 *Key Topics:*
Conservatism’s reaction to the French Revolution and revolutionary ideals.
Key contributions from De Maistre and Burke on tradition and social stability.
The evolution of conservative thought in modern politics.

If morality is not based on reason but aren't we constantly updating our morality based on what we learn from reason? - for example Peter Singer's work on animal rights is linked to many legislation improving the material conditions of animals (their transportation, how they are killed, their treatment during life etc.) We learn through reason that animal are conscious beings -> our morality updates because we ought to treat conscious beings better. thoughts?
