Was I the only one who got disappointed when I saw that the original actors wasn't going to dance this song? I was so excited on the beginning, but then I felt cheated.
I felt the same when Amy didn't sang "That's how you know" in that same ceremony. When I saw someone else singing it i felt so disappointed, bcuz Enchanted was the main reason i watched the Oscars that year lol
@@frediswendatayko321 if it played at her wedding, couldn’t the “but still so far” line just mean they’re not home together yet? They still have to go through a whole night of dancing before getting to go home for the first time as husband and wife.
This movie is very underrated. Amy Adams is one of my favorite actresses and the music, so close is in my top ten Disney music behind some lion king and Aladdin scores. Always cry when I hear this.
I'd agree if a Disney movie in Orginal son but Falling Slowly from Once won. Which it did deserve to win that's a good song but Disney had 3 out of the 5 nominated songs so that's saying something.
It's hilarious that there's so much effort put toward the stage production for So Close and That's How You Know, but poor Amy Adam got sent out to do Happy Working song with no background or dancers, just an empty stage and a mike.
Oh I love Jon McLaughlin - he has such an underrated voice (damn, I love those high vocals he hit). He's a classical pianist and his albums have a nice pop oriented feel to it without bordering too close to the genre. I want this song on my iPod! I wish him all the success.
He’s amazing. He went to the same tiny college as my parents (missed my brothers there by a couple years 😩) and the choir director loved him. :) I actually saw him from across the street at their homecoming in 2018!!! I was like “that guy kinda looks like Tom Cru- THAT’S JON MCLAUGHLIN” 😂❤️ a friend of mine who also went to that school has met him twice - once just a couple weeks ago. :D said he was the NICEST and they talked for like 20 mins. Such a cool, insanely talented guy. :)
This song should've won the Oscar that night. The dance scene was easily one of the most romantic Disney moments and this song totally captures it. Too bad 2 other Alan Menken pieces were also great and nominated, thus splitting the votes.
He's so cute I love this song even though I cry every time. This reminds me of my dad who sadly passed away in 2016. This song played at a costume ball that I went to at Disney world I was dressed up with a powder wig i love this song 10 years later
I literally watched Enchanted like three days ago and realized no one talks about this song enough in regards to “romantic Disney songs” and it makes me so salty 😂
You're in my arms And all the world is gone The music playing on For only two So close together And when I'm with you So close to feeling alive A life goes by Romantic dreams must die So I bid mine goodbye And never knew So close was waiting, waiting here with you And now forever I know... All that I want is to hold you so close So close to reaching that famous happy end Almost believing this one's not pretend And now you're beside me, and look how far we've come So far, we are so close Oh how could I face the faceless days If I should lose you now? We're so close to reaching that famous happy end Almost believing this one's not pretend Let's go on dreaming, though we know we are So close, so close, and still so far
this was our wedding dance... it's a sad song, but we still went for it coz we know that my wife and I just tied the knot so heheh... we just enjoyed the song especially because it's also a Stephen Schwartz song...
Incredible live performance. a time when technology was not so great yet, the reverb are not that great too in live performances unless lip sync. and it's easy to identify how clean singer sings in a live performance. His Voice was lovely.
what an iconic song & moment. My brother & his fiancé live in orlando & they're obsessed with disney. I'm pretty sure this is boutta be their wedding song 🥰🥰
Happy to see this song finally getting a little recognition that has been much deserved 15 years later… epcots new firework show has this song and when I heard it I couldn’t stop hysterical crying! This song is absolutely AMAZING.
Have always thought this performance was amazing. I met Jon by chance a couple months ago before going to his show. Really nice guy! Told him that I loved this performance and that I thought he did an amazing job. He was very humble and said he had messed up on the high note. I disagreed and told him that it was amazing and one of the best Oscars performances I had ever seen. He appreciated it, took a photo and asked if I wanted him to play a specific song that night. I asked him to play “If Only I” (one of my favorite songs in general). He said he would try, but without his band it might be hard. At the show he asked if I was there and said he would play the song, but if it didn’t go well it was my fault and for everyone to blame me (joking of course). He did an amazing performance! I cried. End of story! 😁
He sung beautifully but I don't know if he was nervous or didn't drink his tea before but his voice was a little shaky and some notes weren't sung right... I still love him to peices ❤
Yes, I wonder if he didn't warm his voice up or something. He was having trouble with his breath support, which could be nerves, too. Still, when consciously not comparing it to the studio recording, very endearing performance.
This song is so underrated.
My favorite movie
Not just the song. Jon McLaughlin is also an underrated singer and song writer.
So o ooo underrated
ikr...this is one of the best disney songs.
Slow singing affectionate and touching
WHAT? He sang this song at the Oscar??! I never knew 😮
Enchanted had 3 nominated songs 😭 and didn't win any
i saw this reply exactly at the "and never knew" part lol
Ha I found out 2 years after you
@@Smartkid2387 haha good for you

This song still takes my breath away each time
The two dislikes are from Nancy and Edward
Hugo Lopez 😂😂😂
That's Elsa and Scott Summer
That’s funny 😆😂🤣
But nah, they were happy for them 😁
😂😂😂
And their 12 children.
you have no idea how much i want this song to be played at my wedding
Same
So you want people at your wedding to know you and your groom are close but not really.
same here ;-;
Pls. read the last line of the song. ..maybe you might change this song for your wedding.

Same! 😭
My favorites is So Close and Tangled's I see the Light, they both have kind of the same vibe.
My third favourite Disney movie behind only Marry Poppins and Saving Mr Banks.
Part 2 is coming!!!
same!!!! its so beautiful but the first few lines always get me!!!
This year the Oscars was basically a Disney concert lol
I'd agree if a Disney movie in Orginal son but Falling Slowly from Once won. Which it did deserve to win that's a good song but Disney had 3 out of the 5 nominated songs so that's saying something.
For me this is THE BEST Disney song ever
It's Alan Menken, so of course it is
Better than Circle of Life?🤔
Sameeee ❤
11 years and I'm still crying
Same. I went to watch this movie in theaters, and I still have the same emotions
Me too 😢

It was 2008, but it looks like the 80's wtf??? o.O
Yes i agree 😂
ThAts how 200s are as well
Probably a bad upload. It did not look this fuzzy when it originally aired. HDTV has been around since the late 1990s.

John McLaughlin sang so close?!?! 😱 I was today years old when I found this out
He broke both his damn wrists and still plays piano like musical superhero. He is seriously impressive.

Which song won tho?
@@darylcandace108 "Falling Slowly" by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová from Once
Give the fake actors they prompts. I felt that emotion!
To this day I still can't believe how underrated this song is.
2021 and I'm listening to this beautiful song still
Me too
Me three
Me four
2022 and still!! 💕
Okay but Jon is so damn handsome. Holy guacamole
I can feel Jon's nervousness.
He still pulled this off smoothly though!!
This song, this movie, and Jon McLaughlin are all so underrated. His solo recordings are amazing.
With everything bad that is happening at the moment in 2022, I'm still listening. Beautiful Song!
Me too…
I remember covered this song and got my regular job as wedding singer every weekend, what a beautiful song
She has realized that she's in love with a very real person, and becomes a real person herself.
Could tell was nervous he was shaky

I'm sorry for your loss may your father rest in heavenly paradise.🙏
One of the greatest songs ever written
I literally watched Enchanted like three days ago and realized no one talks about this song enough in regards to “romantic Disney songs” and it makes me so salty 😂
This is the song that made me discover this huge talent that is so underrated, Jon Mclaughlin.
You're in my arms
And all the world is gone
The music playing on
For only two
So close together
And when I'm with you
So close to feeling alive
A life goes by
Romantic dreams must die
So I bid mine goodbye
And never knew
So close was waiting, waiting here with you
And now forever I know...
All that I want is to hold you so close
So close to reaching that famous happy end
Almost believing this one's not pretend
And now you're beside me, and look how far we've come
So far, we are so close
Oh how could I face the faceless days
If I should lose you now?
We're so close to reaching that famous happy end
Almost believing this one's not pretend
Let's go on dreaming, though we know we are
So close, so close, and still so far
This is the most beautiful Disney love songs and it does not get enough recognition and praise. It is so moving and beautiful!!😢❤😢❤
Again this song is so underrated. So close to rated
this was our wedding dance... it's a sad song, but we still went for it coz we know that my wife and I just tied the knot so heheh... we just enjoyed the song especially because it's also a Stephen Schwartz song...
He sounds so nervous. Such a beautiful song 🥹
He definitely sounds like it, but I don't blame him, it's the Oscars.
it was his first major performance on TV and the first time he performed the song
I hate when they cut my most favourite and the most painful part of the song
"How Can I Face a Faceless Day If I shall Lose you know...?"
This song is so underrated :( even today
2024 and I’m still listening!! 🥰
still one of the BEST and my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE SONG FROM DISNEY! 🤍
This has become one of my most favorite disney songs ❤️
So close and still so far...
So close to reach that famous happy end.
This song is better and should'be won.
My dream is dancing to this song in my wedding. Sadly, I might end up forever alone 😢
Incredible live performance. a time when technology was not so great yet, the reverb are not that great too in live performances unless lip sync. and it's easy to identify how clean singer sings in a live performance.
His Voice was lovely.
This looks like it was film in the year 1995 😑
This is such a perfect song for prom dance💖
This is a moment, I wish I could have with someone......
Jon looks so lost without a piano
lol, yes. He seemed a little uncomfortable when there was a instrumental break and he just had to stand there.
Looks like a music box dancing 💗
How am I now the age of Jon McLaughlin when he sang this at the Oscars? Wtf happened..
kudos to not using live autotune. :)
Btw, the singer's kinda hot.
The ppl saying they want this song on their wedding... Do you read the lyrics & also understood the context of it in the movie?
La cancion del que se canso de buscar el amor ideal y sabe q de quedara solo en esta vida 😢 muy triste esa canción
what an iconic song & moment. My brother & his fiancé live in orlando & they're obsessed with disney. I'm pretty sure this is boutta be their wedding song 🥰🥰
The singer is gorgeous and have a beautiful beautiful voice! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Enchanted is such a beautiful movie, Disenchanted was vile though… we were better off with just the first movie
Happy to see this song finally getting a little recognition that has been much deserved 15 years later… epcots new firework show has this song and when I heard it I couldn’t stop hysterical crying! This song is absolutely AMAZING.
And the. John Travolta enters the scene. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
That was WEIRD.
A valsa mais linda de todas
Best love song I've ever heard omg why this didn't go popular at the time?
Still think Amy Adams should have been made a Disney princess. She's a perfect Giselle.
that singer is awesome and beautiful ! and the music is beautiful !
Dang that was sooo good. Watching this version for the first time. 😳😱😯 Same soothing and beautiful voice live, like the recorded version.

Why would someone play this on their wedding 😂
God , I'm enchanted!!
This is literally one of the best spots of the century. I start listening to Jon’s music after this.
