I can’t stop listening to this one. It’s my new favorite! The melody shift in the second half of the song is absolutely beautiful and Tom’s vocals are heavenly. The stark shift really makes me feel the meaning of the lyrics. To me it’s saying that what started out as plans for just a sexual encounter turned into something so very intimate, loving, and emotionally moving. It’s so lovely!!
Agree. To me, this song is about the person he was seeing while he was divorcing his wife (probably the same person that “Chase the Night Away” is about). They’d get a room and hold each other and put the radio on to drown out any noise. “Lets pretend that this will never end, we’re in control of it” “Put the radio on and feel my heart banging like a gun....put the radio and feel your love surround me like the sun”

it’s so ridiculous that this album was noted for its lack of “big moments” from Tom when this track exists. his vocals are truly angelic, as expected.
Everyone talks about the second half - and in many ways for good reason - it is indeed beautiful and totally evokes Under The Iron Sea. However, it's the first half that TOTALLY consumes me, often having to rewind, not wanting it to end . . . Just so incredibly hypnotic and immersive . . . At times the first half almost feels as though Keane are channelling 'The Doors'! . . . It's simply an extraordinary record all round and one of their very finest.

Totalmente, el final y de por si la cancion, es como una "respuesta" a Atlantic. Cada que la escucho mas me enamoro de ella. Ojala y la toquen en sus conciertos, junto con Im not Leaving, que creo es la mas hermosa del disco.

@@gablb2728 Es porque el álbum lo escribió Tim en referencia a su divorcio y las cosas que pasó ,por eso la mayoría de canciones tienen un sentimiento en común.
Un ejemplo claro es Strange room donde dice que esta en la cárcel ,referencia que tuvo un accidente automovilístico donde lo llevaron a una.
Hopes and fears es unico y el mejor
Para mi todos los álbumes de KEANE son fantásticos, lo que pasa es que son, diferentes ,periodos de cada vida de los integrantes.

The half/outro is the best part seriously so beautiful. This makes me understand what cause and effect means. And why cause and effect is for the title of the album. Every album contain cause and effect of the events.
Hace dos meses comentaba acá que era una belleza de canción .. y ayer me tocó escucharla en vivo en Buenos Aires, valio la pena hacer fila desde las 8am hasta las 7pm, bancarse el sol de lleno en la cara, bancarse esa tormenta de minutos pero potente,me lloré todo... no creí que la tocaran, fue una sensación sumamente inexplicable fue tan mágico verlos.. era mi primera vez, nunca pude ir a un Show de ellos, pero esta vez se dio!!. This song is very special; in the same way that Atlantic was special. It builds in complexity and then the second half takes you to that heaven on earth space that only Keane can do. Die hard fans know exactly what I'm talking about. His voice is simply magical. The harmonies, sublime. I'm hoping to see them on this tour, but I don't think it's going to happen and I'm so sad about it.
I heard this song live in New York like 1 month ago when they presented at the Bowery Ballroom. I fell in love with it immediately. It was my first time hearing a song for the first time ever, live, and loving it right away. It was a lovely experience.

Beautiful! the shift in the song's tune in the last quarter is absolutely beautifully done..I typically don't like it when there is a shift in the tune just shifts, but Keane managed it in such a stunning way ! it just turned this song rom good to stunning!

Some people are saying that the second part of this song looks like "old Keane". You did not notice the most important and brilliant thing about this song: it is exactly this contrast between the beginning (warm and unusual) and the end (hot and emotional) that gives the song the "surprise factor". There's nothing 'old Keane', it's the new and - yet - Keane, surprising, with new sound coming subtly from album to album. Great song. It is in the top 4 of the band and keeps it alive and interesting.
Yeah, that switch serves both lyrics and indicates their approach to song writing. They are using dual meaning in lyrics now, and sadness mixed with sudden realization of happiness.

For me Keane has changed brit/piano rock-music and my heart since I was a kid back in 2004 listening to 'Hopes and Fears'.
The feelings their songs give us is indescriptible. Nostalgia, happiness, sorrow...
After all this time listening to their albums and live performances, solo debuts and collecting many of their Side-Bs (which are pure ART).. feeling they CHANGED and accepted all people evolve as from 2006-2011 they introduced a new member and much electronical sounds (As Linkin Park curiously). In 2012 Strangeland was released and a small part inside of me felt they were coming back to what they used to do.
2019, after 'Best of Keane' and long hiatus, 'Cause and Effect' is released. I didn't expect much as they've been my favourite band since a kid and thought they'd change even more to the pop side.. but I was completely WRONG!
All I can say is they still order the songs perfectly and translate most sensitive feelings into music.. a language that everybody understands but not so many speak.
Hearing "PUT THE RADIO ON" and "IM NOT LEAVING" made me felt goosebumps and almost break to tears, Keane is back, the kings of sensitive music 💙

Playing Along is underrated. Too bad they never played it live with full band set.
This is a truly world class band. One of the best bands to ever come out of the U.K. I love them. Tom is probably the best vocalist I’ve heard in years. He’s up there with Freddy Mercury and is probably a bit better than him as a vocalist. Obviously Freddy was more of a showman, more charismatic. But that’s not what Keane are about.
God, finally someone who thinks like me!, I also think Tom Chaplin is better than Freddie Mercury.
I think Freddie has been chosen like the best just because of time. I'm sure if Keane and Queen had existed at the same time, who is the best singer (Tom or Freddie) would be a constant discussion right now!
I must say that I think Freddie is better than Tom without debate, but Chaplin is an amazing singer and imo the people that link him to Brandon Flowers are ridiculous

Tom Chaplin is a much better vocalist than Brandon Flowers, I never mistook one for the other. Their voices are far apart.

As a kid I got to see Queen and though Freddy had a great voice, I like Tom's singing way better. It's also the music that they sing, so seeing live gigs of talented ppl (Simon LeBon, Paul Mc, Gino Vannelli and Ian Gillan) you get to appreciate what they do. Though limited, even Sting sings great
@@mr.e.2639 Agree. And as a boy I went to a live gig of Queen. It was alright but didn't impress me quite the way ppl speak of Freddy today. I'm more impressed with Canadian legend Gino Vannelli who at 67 still has power in his privileged voice like when he was 27
