Yep, this. Think of all the gadgets you have that are outdated. With this you can just keep buying new phones/tablets (which you’re going to do anyway) and never have an outdated rower.
I have a model C which I purchased around 1999. It has 15 to 20 million metres on it. I replaced the monitor on it years ago after it gave way. The old wooden handle has also been replaced because I wanted a more streamlined handle. That’s it. Everything else is original. It has been a great machine. Being an on water rower, the only machines I would consider replacing it with would be the Concept 2 Dynamic or a Biorower. However, the Biorower costs about 8-10 times as much. Since I do not have unlimited funds I’ll probably keep the old machine. But, I still like the idea of the Dynamic for a better simulation of on water rowing. It is worth noting that, the Concept 2 Row Erg (or model D) has been the go to training machine for world class rowers for many, many years.
I'm pretty new to the gym, but my trainer said the one piece of gym equipment I should buy for my house is a Concept 2 rower. I get an excellent workout on this and this will be my Christmas gift to myself this year.
I spent 5 mio meters on the C2 rower in the last 12 months. Perfect tool. February this year C2 launched the Real Time Loop (a new feature of ErgData). It is a virtual loop to bring rowers (bikers, skiers) together. You will meet many fellow ergers around the world. Great enhancement. I love it.
I am getting close to 10 years of C2 ownership. I oil the chain every month or 2, and replaced the seat rollers just last year... no other maintenance besides keeping it clean. As far as noise goes, the fan is not too loud, but if you like to have the tv on while rowing, you may need to turn it up a bit. The PM5 supports Ant+ and bluetooth heart rate monitors...i use a vivosmart when I row. The PM5 records the heart rate data in the log which is great for monitoring cardio progress. If you want a piece of home gym equipment that is super reliable, easy to use, and gives a great workout, you can't go wrong with the C2.
@@MC80-80 I use 'Squirt" which is a milky white wax based bike chain lubricant. It sets dry, gives great lubrication and no oily marks are left on you or your clothing etc
I’ve had my C2 D since 2020. Before Covid. It is beautiful to me bc I look at quality rather than aesthetics. In 4 years I have learned form through hundreds of C2 UA-cam videos, the customer service was amazing when one piece wasn’t fitting due to a lack of screw location and within 4 days of original delivery I had the new part. I have never had to call customer service again. This is truly a great investment. I only wish they made treadmills as too many other equipment companies don’t have even a decent reputation let alone excellent reputation C2 has earned.
The great thing is the smart features aren't built in, less to break. If you want a smart rower the C2 can become smart with the EXR app which basically uses your phone/tablet to turn the C2 into a smart rower. And that app is a cheaper subscription than the smart rower apps.

Super fun! In my opinion it’s the best machine you can get for your home. Whole body workout for sure 👍 and you can find tutorials that will show you how to focus on different parts of your body while rowing. (abs, triceps, biceps, thighs …)
C2's are the gold standard for the category "athletes who do the sport of rowing and fitness enthusiasts" (e.g. athletes from other sports that erg for conditioning). It's *maybe* bronze for the category "casual exercisers who want a nice looking piece of equipment in their living room that they use infrequently". Probably better to compare C2 against RP3, Stairmaster HIIT rower and Xebex Erg (the latter 2 are duplicates of the C2). So which one is the *platinum* standard?
I have an original Concept 2 Model D… picked it up towards the end of 2020 when gyms were closing due to Covid. This rower is still an awesome machine in my opinion… and still highly recommended. P.S. The C2 (dense foam) seat cushions mentioned in this video are very effective btw. And the newer style arm (that I think is included in the latest C2 rowers) that connects the PM5 monitor to the rower, now has a cradle for iPad devices- very handy if you want to row along to rower workout videos on UA-cam, etc. Great job on the video btw… plenty of good info! 👍😉
I've used Concept 2 rowers for years at the gym but most were poorly maintained and even a little scary because how dirty there were with stuff hanging out the bottoms of the fan assembly. I have also used a first degree fitness water rower for about 5 years and while it was nice, it lacked the brains of the PM5 monitor. So, I just bought a new concept 2 for home use and I am very happy!! It rows so much better than the dirty, poorly maintained gym ones. I am am very happy and while many say they are too loud, I don't have an issue. Maybe I row too slow to make noise ... I've been rowing (OK erg'ing) for about 12 years and it's my favorite exercise! Yes, IMO it is the gold standard.
@@eheheh3263 It may depend on how hard/fast/smooth you row. The sound and resistance seem to be pretty linear likely due to both being created by the fan blade moving air. We have our rower upstairs and for us, it's pretty quiet. Sound produced is more of a hum vs the sloshing sound of the water rower. I would suggest finding one at a gym and trying it out.
It’s great having a huge community too. I doubt the other brands have anywhere near as many users. I love doing Concept2 challenges along with an ocean of other users.
I was a bit conflicted between concept 2 or the water rower. I bought a water rowing machine to get some experience with it. I like the water rower, good resistance in the pull fase and the water sloshing around, it's actually a soothing sound.
The Concept 2 isn't expensive compared to the competition, at all. The water rower shown is over $2k. There are dozens of rowers much more expensive than the trusty c2. I think it's great value for money, mid range price, professional approved. It's an amazing deal.
I just bought a WaterRower A1 Studio. It’s very smooth and the water sound is awesome. You only fill the tank half way and it’s actually quite easy to move around with one hand. It stores upright as is. Don’t have to break in half like a C2.
Good choice. Changed my life. When I couldn’t walk because of foot issues i could row. I have tried other types of rowers but seriously concept 2 is the very best. Get some free weights and you are set.
The rower can be your primary workout, but you'll want to do some supplemental movements (for instance, rowing doesn't really work your chest or triceps, so adding an exercise like pushups would be beneficial).

The Peloton has a goddam fabric pull, c2 has a chain. If you do 50k km the fabric pull is going to look pretty worn out.

Took delivery of one a few days ago. I love it. The app makes it easy to keep track of workouts.

You are the resistance on a rowing machine. The harder you push. The harder it is to push. you will never run out of resistance on a C2
