When i look at lens reviews they usually neglect talking about either diatance, low light conditions, or covering full body shots. This video covered all of that and more in less than 5 mins, thank you my friend, thank you.
Thanks for discussing the 135 and 50 focal lengths side by side; it will be a very helpful insight when choosing lenses. The Canon 135/2 has a unique and strangely magical ability to bring out the humanity of the subject. Also, I've found for stage events it can give me effectively a 300mm F/2 equivalent just because those full-frame pics from the 135 are SO croppable (and still look beautiful when cropped).
I totally agree with you about how it makes the subject seem like, “cooler” somehow. I’ve always thought of the look as sort of statuesque (might be the word), I think. I want to say at 35mm you get such mild distortion that people recognize that they look different somehow, good or bad, then at 50 and 85 they go “oh yeah, that’s what I look like.” But at 135 it goes the other way, people again recognize that they look different somehow, but it’s GOOD... I love this lens, like, lots, but I rarely get to use it because my studio is so small 😭
I buy and sell lenses when I get bored or feel I'm not using them enough and want to try something else. I am now on my second 135mm F2. I sold my first one and soon realised that its not just a good lens, its a remarkable lens. Nothing I tried came close. The IQ is so good and for the cost, literally it is the best sub-£1000 lens Canon make. I bought another and I will keep this one forever.
Can I ask you something very important to me? Can you give me your opinion on the relevant differences on the Canon 100mm 2.8 L USM Macro lens and the 135mm 2.0 L USM? I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks!
@@jonafigueroa9331 the background blur would be less with the 100mm and you will see a litlle bit more of the background, you can get true macro shots with the 100mm but not with the 135mm
I have owned the canon 135 f/2 in the past, and I agree its a really great lens, but since I found the Zeiss Milvus 135 F/2 ,I am totally blown away....Head and shoulders over the canon, the only drawback is no autofocus, but on the canon its no problem, just focus till you hear the beep and your in perfect focus, as others have said, the best 135mm lens on the planet...... Check it out...
Really solid video. I’m currently just getting into photography and I userhe 50 1.8 STM exclusively right now, for budget reason., but I’m currently thinking about picking this lens up in the near future.
I actually visualise the 135mm in a different manner. I use a 75mm for taking candids of people regularly (usually two of them in the frame, half-body) But there are quite a few cases, where I could really see myself sitting at the exact same, comfortable - but not too far - distance, and I would like to have a tighter shot, probably vertical, really focusing on that expression, capturing the 'essence' of a person and cutting out the rest, that would be a much stronger and clearer picture (cropping in later is never the same). The trouble is that you can't stand back on other occasions, there is a lot less flexibility, so essentially there has to be a second body to capture that. But it is more motivating to use than any 70-200mm. I used the Sigma 135mm f1.8 and it is unbelievable optically, but the cost/usage(/weight) ratio is not great, the Canon is just unbeatable in that regard. Also great for taking pictures of kids with its magnification and general look.
There were 135 likes on this video when I click it. I’m the 136th person to like this vid. The 135 is the sharpest lens I’ve used and the fact that it’s a prime lens makes it even better. This may be better then the 70-200 2.8L. In my opinion it is better, sharper, faster, and lighter than the 70-200. The 24-70L 2.8 version 2 is a nice addition to go with the 135L they are both sharp and light compared to waking around with all of those prime lenses.
Good review and I agree with your points, except about the shutter speed thing. I have no problem shooting mine all the way down to 1/100, on a 5d3. The combo is heavy, and the heavier, the more stable. Btw, I want that lens hood!
I love Canon users when they talk about sharpness. The Nikon 135mm f2 ais smokes it at f2. I've used the Canon 135 and love it for the creaminess and unique, painterly look!
My camera body is an 80D. I mainly shot portraits. With that being said, do you think the lens will work well on my 80D and the autofocus feature will work as well ?
I had the same problem.....turned out there was something wrong with focusing and canon fixed it. Now I’m going to try using his suggestion of not shooting below 400! I’m hoping that could be the ticket since there isn’t IS
Laurie Wahlig i did that but still focusing when the lens want 😂. It is like he focus some times but other times not. If i took ten photos maybe 1 is in focus. I just dont know if it is a real problem or it is something related to the focus distance

The 135 is my go to lens for portrait and family sessions. I love it!
Pretty much same here
How do you shoot a family portrait with a long lens

I have several fixed lens and this one is by far my favorite lens. Amazingly sharp !
I agree
50 1.2 and 35mm is the best when you want to show a model in an environment and gives more 3D look, and 135mm is the best for full body portraits
I have a couple of 135s but not Canon but do Love this focal length seperation and Bokeh....is well... Good!!

Even you have ibis in camera.? Do you 400 shutter ot atleast 250 is enough?
Unsure how many stops ibis buys you but just test it out

Yes it will work
subscribed just for the natural way you talk to the camera.
Thanks!
What is the lens hood which you were using with the 135mm f2 in the video, love this lens but I hate the original lens hood which is clunky
I ended up 3d printing my own hood. Thanks for watching!
@@DPhillipsStudios Hello, do you have any files left to print on a 3d printer

I cant get focused photos with this lens, i tried different distances from the subject but at f2 it is not focusing, i dont know what i do wrong
I actually find it to be a very slow focuser so it could be that
Maybe, thank you for your answer 😊

Hi thanks for sharing. I'm considering...not sure though.
35-85-135 and you're done!
50 and 135mm are for different purposes. Why not own both? None are better than the other. :)
Good lens 135mm 👍

The manual Rokinon / Samyang 135mm F2 is even sharper that this, at half the price.
BTW 135mm is my all time, most favorable focal length, hands down. No other FL could match this.
Yeah I know video shooters that love those
but no is
