Those are fun times you are having. I did the same thing just back in the late 70's. It was a blast.
Not overly surprised. I've seen similar improvements every time chamber mufflers are replaced with a straight through design. I generally use Dynomax Ultraflows which internally look identical to the Borla. Chamber mufflers sound great but they are a bit restrictive.
hell yeah man!
Awesome Vid and congrats on your times. Thanks for including my Astre in it too. Was one of my best et/mph to date and you captured it. 👍👍
Thanks and congrats to you too! It looked like a mega run. I kept tryin to run into you at the track, but was always on the wrong side.
Wow ! That's an incredible improvement with just a muffler change . Well done !
Yeah I'm still stunned.
@@SS454LS6 I know I mentioned this before but it looks like your shifting a little early . You're LS5 should have the larger Oval Port heads and you have the 280 Cam ...I would think 6,000 ! But you know your combo better than anyone , so be it ! You shift really well !
I have a 2012 Silverado, totally stock, and with only a 14” Magnaflow being added, the truck feels considerably peppier. It’s still not fast, but it made a seat of the pants difference
Nice job on the video and your passes.
Thanks. I hope to get faster soon.
Awesome car man, I want one of these Chevelle so bad. I like the fact that you drive your car and have fun with it, and not just let it sit in the garage and take it out to car shows every now and then on the weekends.👍
Thanks! I appreciate that.
She hooks up nice.
Congratulations bro! I'd be happy running a 12.5 in my big boat😆
Thanks!
nice
Interesting. I have the old school 30 Series "Top Street " Flowmasters with full exhaust on my rig and it ran the exact same ET when I ran it open headers. Jetted for same AFR
was it straight open headers or did you have extensions? I know extensions can be worth huge power, like 30-40 ft-lbs in the mid range. If all power was equal, I know I would pick up time from just dropping the exhaust. My full 3" with the aerochambers weighed 86 lbs.
@@SS454LS6It was just open headers. But the few times in the past that I had tried different lengths of extension they made no difference at all. Maybe my situation was an exception but that is what I found
Engine Master's did a muffler test. Chambered Delta flowmaster style vs Straight Through muffler (MagnaFlow) Borla etc. It was a 30 HP difference on engine Dyno. It choked the engine that much!!!
Had huge noFlomasters (Super street shootouts) changed to Magnafow & sure goes now!
@@goratgo1970 I have Dynomax Race Bullets on my side pipe 8.1 liter C3. Absolutely tears up the road. I have the Gen 7 Vortec BBC absolutely killer fully built too
@@mericamuscle Used to have an Ecklers flared '72 coupe just a built mouse, but it was clean. Sold it to a friend in '95 - idiot move. Have a TStorm for my 502 still in box, gotta git 'er done! Life gets so busy...
I have picked up .5 and 5MPH by installing dumps before the mufflers. You get the best kind of power. More torque which gets more hp. I would advise a much bigger cam .650 lift. Then some good aluminum heads. Then you should see 7000 rpm shifts. I like 3:90 gears for the street.
Any stock 2023 Dodge SRT can match that off the showroom floor and 2023 Camaro SS pretty much so all that handwork for what?
I have seen similar results going from chambered mufflers to good straight thu mufflers. Probably picked up 15-20 rwhp.
I've heard people picking up lots over a full chambered muffler (Flowmaster) but I didn't think it would be that much of a gain over the Aerochamber. I think your power estimations sound pretty realistic.
@@SS454LS6 Yeah the Aerochamber is imo the best of the Chambered muffs. I currently have Blackwidow Venom 250's but suckers are LOUD. I have a set of Ultraflows going to swap in next.
Imagine how much a set of electric cut outs would help ! I think with a small shot of nitrous you could run with your buddy's 68 chevelle!
I agree. Engine masters did a dyno test on just regular cutouts and the results are impressive.

I'm hoping I can run close to his times N/A with some future mods.
They make horsepower, when you improve your mufflers
Is it louder at start up or quieter? My corsa is super loud looking to quiet it down a bit it’s almost like straight pipes
I would say about the same, which was surprising.
Not sure if i missed it, but what diameter are your exhaust pipes/ mufflers bro? Also, very impressive runs!👍
3 inch exhaust. Thanks :)
@@SS454LS6 thanks. 👍
Ok how do you not have wheel hop I’ve ran mine only 2 times and had wheel hop in burn out box and I ran a 12.63 never adjusted air pressure or sit my qa1 shocks
Most wheel hop comes from loose bushings or control arms that are not stiff enough. Also suspension geometry. Cars that are jacked up in the back tend to wheel hop. I have raised mounting spots on my diff housing, super strong control arms, solid bushings in most places.
@@SS454LS6 come to think of it I had stock boxed lowers now I have Umi should fix it I hope
Rwhp I'm guessing 360,370 not bad with mufflers
For some reason I don't know if it's to the phone but his car doesn't really sound smooth like the Borla Pro XS normally do.
I would expect with an X pipe for it not to sound like a glass pack. Bla bla instead of Zoom.
H pipe. I expected it to sound a little different also. But if you are comparing it to how the Borla's sound on stock pick up trucks, then of course it's going to sound different.
Mufflers dont add horsepower
They allow it if they're the restricting point of your exhaust system
