This clip is an outtake from Ben Kweller's visit to our studio. Ben Performed "On My Way" after performing "My Apartment." This clip never made it to air, but is fun to watch nonetheless.
I think i am in love with Ben kweller. He makes my heart feel wierd, and i forget to breath. He was the sweetest guy ever when i met him and his hug was so comforting. oh my.
I'm old and even I think this kid is cool. Bought the album this song is when it came out a few years ago and I still love it. Haven't kept up with his music. I think I'll do just that, check out his entire catalog to see what he has been up to.
I have this friend, he's a rambling type. He always has a guitar, used to shoot up, and I'm pretty sure he's an angel. Anyway, he plays this song a lot, and listening to this reminds me of him.
You mean; decent singing. a well-spun story with clever simplistic wordplay. a soothing melody and an elegant minimalistic chord pattern? I guess I just find beauty in simplicity. It brings a smile to my face and also makes me feel a little sad. I think that's what you call emotion. You should probably get back in touch with yours. If you have any left.
I know what sandbagging is - people can get kicked out of bowling leagues if there's proof they've done it. And, before you suggested no one knew who he was for 10 plus years therefore he had no talent. Whereas Miley Cyrus actually DOESNT have talent but most everyone, sadly, knows who that is. The point was; you don't have to be talented to be known anymore - just popular. Especially with the tween demographic. That's where most of the market is.
My guess is because he ot only writes really good song but also because there's a need for his brand of music in the market. Talent and marketability doesn't happen too often. You may be a producer, but you've proven that you aren't really a songwriter. Learn more than mix and balance - pick up some instruments and write some lyrics. Let me know when your first song is done so I can listen and compare it. Also, do it on analog. No laptops or ProTools.
I actually have always thought he was kind of ugly for some reason. Still like his tunes though. Evidently so does Rolling Stone as they picked the aforementioned song for their 100 Best Songs of 06 list. I didn't agree with about 1/2 of that list but that was on the 1/2 I did agree with. I like music played and written with passion and/or emotion.
Is this why Wal-Mart is decorated in Hannah Montana posters. Everyone knows that the 60's and 70's was really the only time the majority of "Pop" music was actually really good. Today's market, sadly, is just going after image. This is why most people STILL don't know who Nick Cave is.
I failed to hear the words sexy and spaghetti in this song. Also. Four words. Penny On the Train Track. Write something that memorable and I'll think your jumbled rants have at least SOME merit to them.
A song is a group of ppl interacting. It could be the guitar seeking acceptance, and the bass that is constantly trying to make everyone feel good about themselves. The drums could be the one trying to make stuff happen. The song is a reflection of the music imo. Not bashing you for your comment btw. I've just had these thoughts that i wanted to put out and this was a great opportunity. I hope you get my message. And i'm not high, just weird ;)
Whoa! Watch the spam like ranting on youtube, its impolite. And besides that, don't speak about something you know nothing of. If you listened to my songs and didn't think I was a "songwriter" you should classify yourself as a moron on legal documents. What does Hannah Montana have to do with anything I said? In the sense of promotion im doing what is called sandbagging my releases...In laymen terms meaning im saving up tons of good material and releasing it slowly over the course of a decade.
come on buddy no need to be ignorant. i mean judging talent on fan support will get you nowhere. britney spears has more fans than anybody, does that mean shes the most talented musician out there? for god sake look at people like elliott smith, jeff buckley and others, true geniuses, who were undoubtedly underecognized.
but having personally played and listened to the guy, he's quite an accomplished guitar, pianist, drummer, and anything else that makes sound. i play guitar too and i think ben gives out a lesson with his music - less is more.
Just discovered this kid..like him just fine..and I'm sure I'm at least twice his age..it's great that there is new music out there with some modicum of thought involved..I'd pay the admission fee....
he was heralded by the New Yorker as a guitar prodigy at fifteen years old when his band radish got signed. though they did end up not really making it, so you can argue that.
"Penny on a train track." C'mon bro that's one unoriginal, cliche lyric. Just let it go guys. You're making me think you all have a crush on him from all the ridiculous responses I get.
The very fact that you have to bring up the fact that you're a producer to prove your point just shows that you obviously aren't very good at your job...
Part 2: i mean yu don't need to be that judgemental towards ppl who writes their own song, i mean this isn't my taste but u gotta give them love for trying to play music... don't be haters, just give ur love and support, or just shut the negative comments
I mean whatever floats your boat dude......I like more older, jammier folk infused with jazz, blues, country, rock....etc (Crosby Stills & Nash) and maybe my preference overclouds my judgment, but this is just, folk, simple farmer chord folk.....
I agree. Being popular doesn't mean your musical abilities are fantastic. But on the other hand it's whatever you like the sound of so each to their own.
This is the anthem to my first years living away from home after high school.

Thats one of Ben's favorite songs that he wrote!
i lovelovelove the hair
brings me to tears at the end!
His singing is so effortless, I love it.
this is one of my favorities
I love it and he´s is so great!{3333
I liked it the first time two years bac on my way to Vegas :)
yeah... That a good thing! Hes really amazing
it's not even half way through the song and im crying.... i've been to one of his concerts- it was incredible- he sang this song, too.
This video rocks. We filmed him in Brooklyn recently playing "Oon My Way." Go to my page to check it out!
...I don't see how any of that relates to a pure, expertly written, folk song.
You should have heard him in Radish. Kid was 15 and laying down some of the best 90's grunge/skatepunkpop indie you could imagine.
I'm suprized this wasn't in Juno, or on the B-sides..it's perfect for that movie.

Nice to see Ron weasly playing the guitar. Give him a broom and he'll take off.

i think 100,000 views of this video may be me
This song is f*****g awesome !

im not dissing him, i can't do better. but really.

All BK videos should be viewed a million times and have an essay-length comment list written below them.
just saw him at Bates College. He put on an amazing show! Definitely see him if you get the chance.
Out of sheer curiousity - who is this "real man" which you speak of?
Great clip :) BK looks so out of it at the start of the clip (his eyes)...hope he was just tired!
The very fact that you have to bring up the fact that you're a producer to prove your point just shows that you obviously aren't very good at your job...
Get over it guys!!!!!! I just disagree with you and have the knowledge to make a sound decision on whether this is worth listening to.
Its called personal taste buddy. I'm guessing if you can't understand that, thats probably the reason why you're not a very good producer.
no I am not a dude. I was joking, but I do love this song. and I have read those books, thank you for the underestimation.
The question is, what in it inspires your anger? Why is it worse than silence? Did it give you a headache or something?
haha, awesome reply.. +1 He sounds and looks like a wannabe typical British boy in my opinion.
Good...so obviously Dylan influenced...but who isn't influenced by Dylan? hahah
Here are the lyrics:

This song is just a G chord to D chord. I'm mystified by the complexity that Ben yields.

I love this song to death, but I also hate it because it reminds me of my stupid ex boyfriend. >:(
Uhh I could see someone like Johnny Cash singing a song about killing a man, but not this dude lol.
he's such a pretty-boy isnt he! great artist though.
this is a good song. nowhere near his best though
Dude don't want to sound rude but you sound a bit bitter! playing simple chords isn't a bad thing. it doesn't have to be complicated to be good.
who ever directed this (cameras) did an atrocious job...
