  • Bathroom Remodel Part 7: Today, I was finally able to put on the last coat of joint compound on the drywall, and then we had to take care of some shopping. When we got back, I ripped down some 1x6s into trim for the boar and batten ceilings, and I started making some shelves from an old table top I found on the side of the road.

Have you ever done wet sanding? Easier sanding with a wet sponge then waiting to it sets up and drys. Makes a smoother finish quicker! Very little finish sanding too.

No, I've never tried that. I'll have to look into it thought. Sounds interesting.

Thanks! I didn't quite know what to expect since I made it so long ago, but the color turned out perfect.

you should be using thin set mortar on the concrete board

you are the only person that would rather sand then add a bit more mud...

Sanding a 'lil thicker mud seems to be a bit quicker than waiting hours for another coat of mud to dry.

Awesome series of videos lately Kevin! Keep em coming
For a cleaner cut on the radial arm saw too, score the wood with the blade first as you are pulling towards you. Then plunge and finish the cut but pushing away from you.

That's a great idea. I had to do this little choppy move because my saw blade is getting dull and it just starts smoking like crazy when I cut bigger pieces of wood like this. I need to replace it soon.

With 24" shelves over the toilet, any risk of bumping into the protruding outermost corner of the lower one when entering/exiting the bathroom? Really enjoying this series. Have remodeled a few homes (all DIY)...the first being a gut job of a farmhand-shelter-turned-house from the mid 1800s (oh, the stories I could tell!).

Thanks. I think the shelves will be ok. If they give us any problems, I can always cut off a corner or trim them down.

I would not hand-sand anymore. I'm talking about me. My arms ended up being wasted and the consequence of that was that I suffered pain. I dealt with the pain for many years. It has only been in the last year my arms seem to be recovered.

Nothing worse than a distressed wife.
