Yes, it sounds dated by today's standards...but I was in middle school when this song came out. It was in the summer of 1984 or 1985. When you're a kid headed to the beach, this song comes on the radio...it was like part of the soundtrack to that year's summer.
I have to admit that this song is a 'guilty pleasure' of mine. 1985? That would have made me six (or a late five) when I had a crush on the lead singer...I didn't even know Ricky Martin was alive. I love this song. It reminds me of sunny summer afternoons and true happiness...something I long for once again.

I had an aunt that got me into Menudo when the lineup was Original Ricky/Xavier/Rene/Johnny/Miguel. It would be me & her, along with her sister and a cousin, and their friend from down the hall and we gathered around the TV and watched Quiero Ser, and their variety show would come on after. Unfortunately, at age 13, she passed away from a brain aneurysm in 1983. It wasn't the same watching Menudo without her, but we stopped listening to them after Charlie left in 1987, as he was the last member to join the group while she was still alive. I did like Robi Rosa, but I didn't get into Ricky Martin until he turned up on General Hospital.

I believe this is 1984 since Ricky Martin joins Menudo, and that's how he started his career so far, but he left the band in purpose after spending 5 years of being in the band, since then he took on Broadway since he was a teen, in 2010, he improved himself as a father of twins, and also as a openly gay man.
When my mom was 16 she used to follow them a lot and meet them. A week ago she went to their 30th reunion concert with her two best friends. She likes Charlie I think.

hi! twiggy this is not a movie - it's only an mtv of song called " Hold Me " that was shot in downtown L.A. This singer was Robby Rosa - known today as Robi Draco Rosa.
I remember when this song came out-I loved it and waited until Friday when the video show would come on regular TV. Now looking at it, I still like the song, but realize the styles and dancing...wow lol.
This was one of the few boy bands whose management wanted its members to look young and angelic, and if they turned manly, they were gone, which occurred in one of the following ways: a. He turned 16 years old. b. He grew taller. c. He grew facial hair (beard, mustache, sideburns). d. His voice changed from boyish (tenor) to mannish (baritone/bass). But as the band grew more popular with the arrival of Ricky Martin in 1984, the age limit was extended to 18 and then 20; Martin left the group on his 18th birthday (which works out to December 24, 1989). Still, if a member of Menudo grew taller, had facial hair or his voice changed (all of these prior to age 18/20), he was pushed out.
That was the pop charts, really. "If You're Not Here (By My Side)", a ballad that hit home before I was even 12 years old! Anyway this one hit the R&B charts back in the summer of 1984. It peaked at #36. They used spin this and "Hold Me" on BET quite a bit.
