I like what was done with Blood Hawk in GX. It really evokes a sense of an inferior clone trying hard to compensate for his feelings of inadequacy. Blood Falcon's whole identity is in the shadow of another man, and, unable to accept this, he has an all-consuming desire to destroy that man and thus earn his own identity as that man's better, the "true" Falcon. It has made him desperate, bloodthirsty, and willing to stop at nothing to achieve his goal, and the way the Blood Hawk plays in-game perfectly reflects that.
Whatever happened to this thing? Blood Hawk was crazy awesome in X but translated poorly into GX. How can Blood Falcon call this thing superior to the Blue Falcon when it's outclassed in all but two aspects?? This thing is really slow, quite slippery and for a weight of only 1170 kg, corners worse than quite a few other cars (some heavier than this). It's a good jumper and boosts well, but expect a low position in earlier parts of the race. Lastly, how can you call Blood Hawk stylish? This thing is lame. The vents really don't appeal and sometimes look to do the opposite of help with an efficiently designed racecar. You can go aerodynamic and have style whilst doing so. See Night Thunder or Magic Seagull. It has no style, it has no grace, this thing will beat your emotions bloody right in your face.
To really even call it the same machine from X is just wrong. All but a few machines from X to GX have any where near comparable performance. They are just scripted differently. It is worth noting that about 6 or so machines in F-zero GX have an usually high drag coefficient for some reason. 10% higher than the other racers. This includes Blood Hawk, Space Angler, and Cosmic Dolphin. So that hinders the acceleration, speed retention, and top speed of all of those machines quite a lot. I think this was just a last minute programing oversight to nerf certain vehicles with minimal effort. Also on the topic of high friction and nerfs. Dark Schneider has the highest stats out of all machines in the game, and also happens to have the highest friction coefficient at like 10x the other racers. I could not say as to what the logic was behind making Story Mode's final boss be so bad. There are mods that change the drag coefficients to be universal across all machines, which that alone makes Blood Hawk Viable. I think the mod is F-zero GX Unleashed.
In summary: you don't have to worry about your opponents winning if you knock them out of the race.

I did enjoy playing as Blood Falcon's Blood Hawk, as so much for the voice acting is really a badass in the F-ZERO TV interviews
